Keith Kelly (nedkelly) Time to start nominating books for our July Read. You all know the drill. Please try to add your book as a link to avoid it getting looked over when I add the books to a poll.

Voting is closed June 24th.

The Hare with Amber Eyes A Family's Century of Art and Loss"

Looks interesting Sam!

Keith Kelly (nedkelly) So I'm going to nominate The Road this month. It came quite close to winning the poll a few months back, and it's been on my TBR list since then.

I also like the whole Father/Son premise...especially with my little boy being due sometime in the next 10 days.

message 5: by Mae (new)

Mae (goodreadscommae) | 217 comments I like them both... I will wait for the poll.

message 6: by Dem (new)

Dem OH I do love the road, but going to go with Sam's as I ordered it yesterday on The Book Depository, Yeah! I need help with the impulse buying thing! its still cheaper than shoes!!!!. Looking forward to the group reads here and conversing with everyone.

Carol Keogh (Goodfellow) (carolgoodfellowkeogh) | 17 comments How do I add my nomination as a link?

message 8: by Keith (new)

Keith Kelly (nedkelly) Carol wrote: "How do I add my nomination as a link?"

Just over the box you type in is a "add book/author" link. Click on that and type the name of the book/author. When you find the right book, press add.

Hope that helps.

Carol Keogh (Goodfellow) (carolgoodfellowkeogh) | 17 comments Thanks Keith I am a computer idiot, I am learning though

Ghost Songthis book is by Sarah Rayne.

I hope this works..

Emma L (oemmao) ok, im going to nominate

When God Was a Rabbit by Sarah Winman

just bought it, so its on my to-read shelf :)

message 11: by Iuliana Naughton (new)

Iuliana Naughton | 46 comments The Road is a 5 star read for me. It's very good. I ordered a few books yesterday and had spotted the Hare with Amber Eyes. It looks fascinating.

message 12: by Selina (new)

Selina (-selina) +1 for The Road.
I loved the movie and I have been wanting to read the book for a while now.

Patrick O'Brien's "Master and Commander." They combined two of his books including this one into a movie featuring Russel Crowe and Paul Bettany about 5 years ago. It didn't mention in the film that the doctor (Bettany's character) was a former Irish revolutionary.

message 14: by Martina (new)

Martina O | 3 comments I'm going with Sams The Hare with the Amber Eyes.

message 15: by Mae (new)

Mae (goodreadscommae) | 217 comments My pick is the The Hare with Amber Eyes A Family's Century of Art and Loss
When do we start voting.

message 16: by Keith (new)

Keith Kelly (nedkelly) Nominations end tomorrow. I'll get the poll up and we'll have a winner by Sunday.

Katie Mcsweeney (applekoko19) | 15 comments I am sure I am being stupid but I cannot find the poll... is it not under "polls"??

Now I realise I was being stupid... the poll hasn't been created yet. Sorry! I'd like to nominate The Lovers as it's on sale for €4 in Tesco and all the reviews on goodreads are amazing... apparently it is 8th in a series but it should stand alone. I have a feeling I might be the only one who goes for it though! :)

message 18: by Emma (new)

Emma L (oemmao) ooh, have been meaning to read The Lovers too, might have to pick that instead of my own nomination, 4euro too? may just get it anyway at the weekend, charlie parker novels are usually good! ;)

message 19: by Gill (new)

Gill (gilly_bean) I looked for a poll, but maybe I'm too late to vote?? I second The Hare with Amber Eyes A Family's Century of Art and Loss. It looks very interesting and I've been eyeing it in the store this past week already :P

message 20: by Darren (new)

Darren Gallagher (darrengallagher) | 9 comments I have read The Road, and I highly recommend it. It's a fantastic book and you all will love it.
Also, John Connelly is a great writer. I haven't read any of the Charlie Parker series, but I'm sure the book won't disappoint.

message 21: by Keith (new)

Keith Kelly (nedkelly) So we have a tie for this months book. I know we all have long reading lists, so I don't want to ask everyone to read two books this month.

Would everyone be happy if myself and Vicki make the final decision on this? Keep in mind we both voted for The Road. If you're all happy to do that, I'll appoint a neutral member each month in the future to make the final decision in the event of a tie.

Let me know what you think?

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

It's a good choice. Bleak but well written and despite the horrors described in the book, it's ultimately an inspiring book.

message 23: by Katie (new)

Katie Mcsweeney (applekoko19) | 15 comments its a great book so work away! :)

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm happy either way, I have read the Road and I have the Hare in my to read pile.

message 25: by Keith (new)

Keith Kelly (nedkelly) Ok I've gone and made The Road out pick, seeing as how it is July 1st and all.

Promise I'll be on top of things next month! :)

message 26: by Iuliana Naughton (new)

Iuliana Naughton | 46 comments I loved The Road, will look forward to see what other people think of it. I really want to read The Hare so i will recommend it to my local book club, they might join me.

message 27: by Mae (new)

Mae (goodreadscommae) | 217 comments Okay, I will put it in my to read list. I can't read it this month. Not in the mood... to depressing. I will read it, but not now. I will follow the discussion... spoilers, don't really spoil books for me. I always read the last page before I finish a book. Don't know why.
enjoy the read,

message 28: by Mae (new)

Mae (goodreadscommae) | 217 comments Hey, Keith... could we open a discussion for the Hare.... for those of us who have actually read it or are planning to read it in the next couple of weeks?

message 29: by Keith (new)

Keith Kelly (nedkelly) Hey Mae, sorry for the delay, I've been pretty busy with the new arrival and I'm finding it hard to get onto the computer for more than 2 minutes at a time.

I'll add The Hare with Amber Eyes A Family's Century of Art and Loss as a discussion folder...it did tie with The Road after all.
