I've read the first, um, 15 or so? But it took such a drastic turn from where the series started, that I lost interest. Anita was my favorite series for a long time, and was the first UF I read (although not my introduction to UF - the Buffy TV series started me down that road). The first nine books are awsome. Obsidian Butterfly (Anite #9) was my favorite. Edward's my all time favorite UF character from any series. Which, I'm sure, is why I love Obsidian Butterfly so much. None of the other (many, many) guys in Anita's life really did anything for me. In fact, the numerous guys in the series and the whole "ardeur" (spelling?) thing changed the series so much I didn't like it anymore. I know others do, and that's all good. But it's not for me.
I haven't read them yet. even though they have been about for ages and feel that I missed out on this lol :)
I read up to #10, one after the other, so wanted a break, but I personally really like it although with long series, you are going to love some more than others..I recommend..:)
I am just starting to collect them after reading her Merry Gentry series hoping they live up to the expectations....i am pretty sure they will :)
Yep, I've read every book by Laurell. I have to say, the Anita Blake series will pull you in and get you seriously addicted. One thing though, about seven or eight books in, the whole thing just turns to sex - sex which seems to get kinkier and kinkier with every book. If you can past the non stop porn, there are some interesting stories and a lot of character building which i think is what pulls me back time and time again. One thing I have to say though about one of the characters - I hate Richard! Somebody shut that cry baby up and send him home! :)
Ok i have to say i am excited i have 9 of the books so far but they are a little all over the place atleast i can start on the first 4 books until i collect the others :D
I got the first 4 as a boxed set nearly 10 years ago, and thoroughly enjoyed them. By Blue Moon and Obsidian Butterfly (which I found quite scary) I was beginning to wonder why I continued.....Still, I bought them all hoping (in some forlorn way) that they would revert back to the crime/thriller plots of the earlier ones. But gratuitous sex can be really boring, and some of the later ones are just that.
In a way, I'm still hoping Hamilton will pick up on the original Anita, but I doubt it. After (stupidly?) buying hardbacks as they came out, I've now reverted back to waiting for the paperback edition of Hit List.
I'm a real sucker for some of the characters, like Jean-Claude and Nathaniel, but they MUST get better soon otherwise I'll give up.
Yes Carole, I agree...I have taken breaks between them because it was a bit too much of the same at times... and I also always end up reading the next one..hoping...
I love a lot of the comments people have made about this series. I have read all but the last couple. I sincerely believe Jean Claude is the greatest vampire creation (or certainly top 3) in the genre. Laurell K's first bunch of books are excellent but then the writing gets pretty uneven. Some of the books are good and some are so bad you feel cheated for having paid the price. But read them for Jean Claude and Nathanial -- and leave Richard at home! LOL : ) Tara Lain Cupcake Cassie wrote: "Has any body read this series?

I've got to catch up on my Laurell K. The problem with being a writer is too little time to read! But worth it. I have to figure out which books i've missed. If they're really bad, i don't love the prices they charge. I'll have to read everybody's comments. : )
Oh dear, you've missed a lot of great Jean Claude. I'm thinking i might have stopped at Blood Noir. I've got to go look at the descriptions. : )
I think I have them on PDF, so may carry on there, but would like to complete my paperback collection :)
Most of what i have are paperbacks. I stopped reading them on my ereader quite honestly because the books are so expensive compared to the gazillions of great books from indie publishers. : )
Anita were some of the first books that I read in this genre and they hooked me big time. I have read them all and have to agree with previous threads about the quality in the later books. It does seem that the newer stories are big on sex and missing a little thing like plot, but I'm in it for the long haul with Anita and just can't seem to not buy the next book when it come out. I have also read the Meredith Gentry series and enjoyed those also.

Although I dislike some of the OTT sex scenes, I'm hoping.......it gets better????
I did like the Merry Gentry series, purely because it was a different take on the sidhe, but I DO like the MEN !! even Sholto!!
I like most of Merry's men, except Frost. He reminds me of Richard which drives me CRAZY! I guess everyone needs a moody, whiner in their life.
