In non-fiction, I'm reading On Waterloo: Clausewitz, Wellington, and the Campaign of 1815. It's heavy reading, but interesting.I'm also reading A Sailor of Austria: In Which, Without Really Intending to, Otto Prohaska Becomes Official War Hero No. 27 of the Habsburg Empire, which is much lighter :)
For the past year, I have been reading anything and everything related to the Band of Brothers. I have also picked up some military fiction by Jack Cavanaugh and Dee Henderson. For now, back to the Band of Brother (and other paratrooper) biographies.
I have Beyond Band of Brothers: The War Memoirs of Dick Winters on my shelf but haven't gotten around to reading it yet. Lately I've read the first 2 volumes of the TimeLife WWII series and Combat Medic - Vietnam. The TimeLife series is good so far as a comprehensive overview of WWII which is what i was looking for, but i wish they'd include more maps. I enjoyed Combat Medic - Vietnam a lot as i believe it did a great job of not only telling the events but also delving into the emotions and thoughts a medic goes through. Currently I just started reading Dustoff: The Memoir of an Army Aviator. I have very high hopes for this book so hopefully it doesn't disappoint.
While driving home yesterday (08/11/2011) I listened to Terry Gross on Fresh Air; National Pubic Radio ,WAMC talk with a writer about his new book regarding the split in England during WWI. Those for the war and those against. What I found interesting, when asked about why the front line got bogged down for three years in trench warfare, I think both Terry and the author missed the point that was clearly defined in Colin Ballard's book "The Military Genius of Abraham Lincoln" was that there was no flank to move around. Grant kept moving to Lee's right as they fought slowly south. In the Great War the battle line was drawn from the sea to the mountains

I'm currently reading Why Marines Fight by James Brady, and I'm about halfway through. It's not bad, but I was expecting more from it. When I finish it, I plan on starting The Heart and the Fist by Eric Greitens.
