**July Challenge - Non-Fiction**
I'm in - it's a good reason to read these books! I tend to get carried away with my novels :)
I'll join in. I am off to New Zealand before the end of July but will commit to two non-fictions that are on my TBR pile: It's Not About the Tapas: A Spanish Adventure on Two Wheels by Polly Evans; and
A Wolf at the Table: A Memoir of My Father by Augusten Burroughs
.
Perfect timing! I've been working through Newsweek's Top 100 book list and I saved most of the non-fiction for last. Plus I'm on a Bill Bryson and Erik Larson kick right now, so I'll probably end up reading quite a few non-fiction entries in both June and July.
My choice is The Ballad of Les Darcy by Peter FitzSimons. I've had this one to read (I own it), since about 2007, so I really should get to it! Perfectly good excuse;)
Oranges & Sunshine for me...this looks a really fascinating book, though I'm sure it will break my heart too!
I'm planning to read The Future Eaters: An Ecological History of the Australasian Lands and People. I also recommendIn the Garden of Beasts: Love, Terror, and an American Family in Hitler's Berlin which I just finished and was wonderful!

Wow, they sound really great Janice! Glad you enjoyed the 2nd one, hopefully you'll enjoy the first one as much :)

I will commit to reading two books on Climate Change:1. Tim Flannery's The Weather Makers : How Man Is Changing the Climate and What It Means for Life on Earth
2. Nicholas Stern's Blueprint for a Safer Planet: How to Manage Climate Change and Create a New Era of Progress and Prosperity
It'll be interesting too see how the two compare in substance and writing!

Wow Fiona..that sounds really good. I have just added it to my TBR list!

Fiona wrote: "I'm reading this: Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption"That's one I have on my list as well. If I finish 'The Future Eaters' I'll start on that one as well!
I was hoping you would have this challenge as my brother sent me some cool, rather large books on Eurpean Art, which I love and have been hanging out to read. I also got the Dummies Guide to Understanding Autism which I should make a dent on.Thanks!
I love all the suggestions. Just trying to make a link to this really good book that I recently read: In the Garden of Beasts: Love, Terror, and an American Family in Hitler's Berlin which added to my understanding of the reasons that World War II happened and why we must curtail current war and prevent future ones.
I'll be reading and applying Photoshop CS3 for Dummies by Peter Bauer http://www.goodreads.com/book/photo/1...
which I've been putting off for far too long.

I will be interested in how you find this book. A firend of mine is taking her son overseas for treatment, including possible hyperbaric treatment which is mentioned in the description of the book.

I NEED to finish The Death of Kings: Royal Deaths in Medieval England, and I've also go From Achilles to Christ: Why Christians Should Read the Pagan Classics, It's Not About the Truth: The Untold Story of the Duke Lacrosse Rape Case and the Lives It Shattered, and Galileo's Daughter: A Historical Memoir of Science, Faith and Love to finish. Will I get them all done in 1 month?

Amazon has a few copies of Dragon Bones: Two Years Beneath the Skin of a Himalayan Kingdom left. If you order now, you should get it in time for the July challenge. It also doubles as an Aussie Author read for the year's challenge.I've already read Culture Crisis: Anthropology and Politics in Aboriginal Australia, The Pleasures and Sorrows of Work, Manhood, The Architecture of Happiness and Australian Search Party this year. I'm going to try to squeeze in Mastering Virtual Teams: Strategies, Tools, and Techniques That Succeed for this challenge and hope that my head doesn't explode.

So.... put down those novels (they'll be waiting) and discover the world of biographies, auto-biographies, memoirs, world issues (eg.global warming, religion) and more.
Non-fiction covers a HUGE area in the literature world. Have you bought a travel book lately, self-help, cook book or an art book? Now is the perfect time to read them!
Or you could try a biography-human life story, a book about a special location, a specific incident (e.g. Beaconsfield mining disaster http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11529... or Stuart Diver's remarkable survival http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/15680...), an issue (eg people smuggling, world wars http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/82347...) etc.

July 1st is also Bastille Day, so perhaps read a non-fiction book with a connection to France.
