Lori (moderatrixlori) So, what's on your mind today? Anything you need to share, spread the love about, or just get off your chest? We're here to listen :)

message 2: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) You guys can promote your websites/blogs in the TV /Movies/Music/Websites/Videos folder. I should probably add blogs to the title :)

Jordie.R (JordieR) | 110 comments I don't have a problem with you being here. I suppose at 20 I could be to old also. I don't read a lot of YA, but it's kind of nice to be here.

Sue | 178 comments Speaking as someone that hasn't been a YA in "awhile", I've wondered the same at one time or another. :) I figure I'm here to learn and support others the best way I can.

Isabella Same goes for me too.

That was my idea too but I wouldn't want to disturb

Completely understand :)

Summer Michaels | 361 comments Why would your age matter? Do you read YA material? I think as long as you are in this group to participate and support others then the other stuff is just...stuff. Karen, you have such a great heart, people like you need to be here =)

message 10: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) All of the YA book based groups on Goodreads have adults in them. The primary purpose of this group is to discuss books. All of the other off-topic or loosely related posts is what makes the group more of a community. A community needs to be made up of a diverse population or it loses it's effectiveness.

So, please don't think you should leave or not participate because you don't fit the YA demographic.

message 16: by Anne (new)

Anne Tenino (annetenino) That's cool that you got to watch her be born, Jordie. I bet you'll be able to torture her with that all through her teenage years! Seriously, it's awesome (in the true sense of the word) isn't it?

Congratulations! Welcome to the world, Jade!

I hope all is well with the whole family. (And big kudos to Jade Elizabeth's mom for letting people be there to share the experience - she's braver than I was, barely let my husband in LOL) I hope you get to enjoy family times and watch your neice grow (and I promise you, offers of babysitting are always appreciated by beleaguered parents, which is any new parents after about the third week. Even just sitting with the baby while the mom gets to have a long shower or go out quickly and shop. You'll be a hero. Enjoy the baby days.)

message 18: by Jordie.R (new)

Jordie.R (JordieR) | 110 comments It is awesome, and my sister in law is the best too. She and I used to watch reruns of Friends together when she and my brother were just dating. There is an episode where Rachel is pregnant and is having an exam and her feet are up in those thingys (sorry I can't remember what they're called, lol) and she keeps telling Ross to "stay up here by my head". So last night Lissa asked me if I remembered that episode, I said yes, and shes like "good, cuz that's where you need to stay, up here by my head Jordan, just stay up here by my head, there no reason for you to go down by my feet, if you wanna watch, that's what the mirror is for, lol." So, yep, it's a good day!

Lol I told the same to my husband, adding that if he looked at the mirror I was going to kill him later!

LOL!! Your SIL sounds great. :D

Congratulations again. I LOVE babies. I teach 5 year olds at my school, but we have an infant room, too. I get my baby fixes all the time and now so will you.

ETA: those "thingys" are called stirrups. *grin*

message 22: by Susan65 (new)

Susan65 Great news Jordie...you will be and in some ways, already are a wonderful uncle. It was amazing to see huh?

message 23: by Jordie.R (new)

Jordie.R (JordieR) | 110 comments Lol, I'll try to remember that they are stirrups and not thingys. But I have horses, so stirrups are usually connected to the saddle for me.

Yep, this makes me a first time uncle and it was amazing to see. The doctor let my brother deliver her. Ok, not exactly deliver, but she told him to "come over here and put your hands under your daughter so you can catch her when she comes out". And Lissa's mom got to cut the cord. So yeah, it was pretty awesome:).

message 24: by Susan65 (new)

Susan65 Well I went through it twice and I would have NEVER allowed anyone (other than daddy of course)in the room with me. NO WAY! But I think it's way cool when others do, I know I'm a hypocrite...but a shy one.

That doesn't make you a hypocrite. I'm not so sure I would have wanted all of us in there either, but I'm really glad that Lissa did!

message 26: by Margaux (new)

Margaux hi :) uhm okay i need your opinion.. so there's this guy that i really like and about a month ago we were at this camp for the new kids at our school. one night, there was a campfire and him and i went for a little walk.. near the end of the walk, he kept on asking me if i believed in being spontaneous and i was so nervous, that i only answered 'i dont know' if i had said yes, he wouldve kissed me.. but i didnt so nothing happened between us..
now, he's hooking up with some girl two years older than him and i still talk to him but the feeling wont go away. i regret not telling him that i believe in being spontaneous..
i was wondering if any of you can tell me if you think i should kiss him? because at least ill know that i tried.. but i dont know if i should.. help, pleaseeee :)

message 27: by Susan65 (new)

Susan65 No, if he moved on that fast he is only looking for a no strings attached hook up. You will only get your heart broken. If he wanted a relationship or at the least, get to know you better, he would have tried a little harder. You are worth more, dont sell yourself short.

message 28: by Kaje (new)

Kaje Harper | 17384 comments What she said.

You can continue being friendly and maybe something will still develop. But if you push yourself out of your comfort zone in a physical sense to get a guy's attention it tends to escalate. You'll do more and more things you maybe don't want to, because he's expecting it. If you want a relationship, that's a bad place to start from.

message 29: by Margaux (new)

Margaux Thanks :) So i followed your advice and didn't do it. I'm gonna work on my friendship with him and I'll see what happens from there. I really appreciate you guys answering :D ♥

message 30: by Kaje (new)

Kaje Harper | 17384 comments Good luck! And if all you get is a good friend, that's worth a lot too.

message 31: by Byron (new)

Byron (byft) OMG.. I'm sitting at home on a saturday night and absolutely going insane.. I've read two stories today (1 short and one book) and actually needed to not read another story right now.. Sorry it's 11.45pm here so I can't ring and bitch at my friends, so I thought I'd moan here..

What do you do to take a break from reading?

message 32: by Kaje (new)

Kaje Harper | 17384 comments Byron wrote: "What do you do to take a break from reading? ..."

Other than writing? Teach the dog a new trick (not always successfully but he looks cute trying.) Clean my house (since that's about the only time cleaning gets to the top of my to-do list.) Listen to music and draw. Or tell the husband its time to get off his computer...

message 33: by Susan65 (new)

Susan65 I try hard to do other stuff but I inevitably come back to my books, i feel your pain Byron, there are many of us addicted to reading.

message 34: by Kaje (new)

Kaje Harper | 17384 comments Although some of us like Matt have a pretty darn good alternative available...

message 35: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Lynne (pjlauthor) Byron wrote: "What do you do to take a break from reading?"

Yeah... when I read a book, I tend to do it in one sitting and then go a few days without reading again so this post really has nothing to offer. ^^;;

message 36: by Byron (new)

Byron (byft) Hmmm ... I was actually forcing myself to NOT read.. I was starting to get stories mixed up.. O_o just on mind overload last night...

Patricia, I tend to do that a lot only letting work intrude - because you know, gotta eat, pay rent/bills.. :) Otherwise I'd be like "computer? what's that? work? what's that? shower? what's that.. hehehe". If only I focused on other things with the same intensity.

Kaje - CLEANING?? really it makes it onto your to do list?? hehehe

:p @ Matt... (bragger.. hehe)

Kaje Harper | 17384 comments Byron wrote: "Kaje - CLEANING?? really it makes it onto your to do list?? hehehe..."

I'm a mom - I think it's in my contract somewhere. Actually, my husband just starts patiently doing it (he's the neat freak) until I get guilt tripped into doing some too. But a man who cooks and cleans is priceless, even with the guilt thing now and then.

Summer Michaels | 361 comments I'm jealous Byron. I haven't read in over a month. My kids have been keeping me sooooo busy. I want to just pick up a book and fall in love with a few characters. Withdraws are hard!

Kaje Harper | 17384 comments Summer wrote: "I'm jealous Byron. I haven't read in over a month. My kids have been keeping me sooooo busy. I want to just pick up a book and fall in love with a few characters. Withdraws are hard!"

A month!!!!! I can't go a day without something. Even when I had an infant up all night and a two-year-old who didn't nap, I snatched bits of time here and there to read. I would go crazy. Maybe a short story? One of the HSD's? Are you at least writing, though? That's an even worse addiction. Golly, I want to offer to babysit, just to give you two hours for a book.

message 40: by Summer (new)

Summer Michaels | 361 comments I am writing, or re-writing as it is. I'm currently reworking my WIP. I have plans to read tonight at work. I work a 26 hr shift on Sundays, so when things slow down I will inhale a book. The hard part is picking one!

message 41: by Byron (new)

Byron (byft) ~shudder~ my biggest fear in life is not of dying, but of not being able to READ.. I don't know how you can survive with out reading... I've been known, (before ebooks arrived) to even read dictionary's when I've run out of books. You don't want to see me first thing in the morning at breakfast if I have no book on the go - I raid the cupboard and grab packets out to read.. (Yes seriously - Ex used to take great delight in having a go at me about it!)

I hope you got a GOOD READ in on shift.. (26 hour shift?? O_o)

message 42: by Kaje (new)

Kaje Harper | 17384 comments What he said. O_O

message 43: by Summer (new)

Summer Michaels | 361 comments I work with special needs individuals in their home. The three men I work with need supervision 24 hours a day. I work a 26 hour shift and an 18 hour shift on Wednesdays. That way I'm only away from my kids 2 days a week. I like being home when they are. I love my job and really look forward to coming in. The hours fly by!

message 44: by Kaje (new)

Kaje Harper | 17384 comments That's great that you love both work and home and can have a lot of time with the kids (although you must just crash after those long shifts.) I hope you got a few minutes with the printed word. Gosh, if you're that limited in time it must be agonizing choosing what to read next.

Haha, nice to know I'm not alone.

You know it's bad when you're reading shampoo bottles in the shower! When I was a kid my mom always used to fuss at me for reading at the table, or reading while walking. (ok I was clumsy enough when I watched where I was going, so I'll give her that one)
