wait- Leviathan's not steampunk?

You're wrong it's dieselpunk. There is a difference mind you. Steampunk is usually highly Victorian influenced in most of it's forms. The Leviathan books however are obviously not Victorian at all.

To elaborate on my above post.
"Steampunk involves a setting where steam power is widely used."
Correct me if I'm wrong, but none of the books have any distinct reference to steam power at all. It is all based on diesel or kerosene powered machines not steam.
"usually Victorian era Britain" http://www.google.com/search?sourceid...
Unfortunately for your(lackthereofan) argument: "The Victorian era of British history was the period of Queen Victoria's reign from 20 June 1837 until her death on 22 January 1901"
When was Archduke Ferdinand assassinated again? Oh yeah June of 1914.

So thats a 13 year gap between when steampunk era takes place. So unfortunately the facts prove your above, off comment statement wrong. Please do 20 seconds of google and reading the back flaps of a book do not count :p
An airship, steampunk does not make.
My first choice would be listen to your heart by DHT, from Deryn's perspective more...
