Grumpy UK
This damned weather - I've had my heating on today. Talk about the frozen North......it feels like a scene out of Game of Thrones....expecting White Walkers soon
Curmudgeons corner! I'll know where to come for a moan when in need of it and I have no trouble relating everything to books so that's fine... Well "winter is coming" in the North Ian - it is July after all. Meanwhile down here, the neighbourhood children (including my own) have invaded my garden with water pistols I feel as if I'm in a Horrid Henry book! Meanwhile, I'm staying in the house so they can't get me...
The torrential rain isn't helping - it's like Noah! Now I'm trying to download a free book to my kindle, and I'm being asked what programme to use - any suggestions?
Oh! by the way I have traded my nice blue walk frame in for a jet ski HEHE! But one very, very big Problem and a big worry it wont fit through waterstones door :-( HELP!!!
Ugghh computer keeps crashing - lost half a days work. If I can't use a computer how will I ever manage a Kindle, Luddite that I am!!

He He That's so sad - you realise Waterstone's won't be able to pay their staff now!

Saw the thread title...and I see we have the usual suspects already here!
Good one Nick...bet that causes a storm at the local Tesco's (other retailers are available)...but how do you keep it quiet in the library??
Ooh, sorry Mr Moderator...need a book reference...so how about
...see you on the water (when I finally get out of detention...I think I've just earnt another one)!

You might need extra memory. Try

I see Rupert is up before the beak today.....will we get any truth....I don't think so......better off with interviewing
We do get grumpy in Canada too.. In the East it's
and west of the Rockies, we haven't even had much of a summer, instead it's been a perpetual
... I almost said..
, but it is July after all...
Oh no, so typical to pick up flu at the end of term Helen - just in time for the hols! Get well soon...
Helen....hope some rest, and, hopefully a little sunshine, gets you feeling better soon, so you can enjoy your well earned break.
I'm grumpy too, I have a nasty cold, I ache all over and I feel like Pants and on top of that I've got six weeks of a five year old at home!
Helen wrote: "You lot are funny! Strey, you know you love our random remarks, possibly as much as Mr. Nonsense"Crumbs
I do, I do love it...but I pop back to find I appear to have stumbled into Emergency Ward or maybe I'm still watching Torchwood! :)
Sarah wrote: "I'm grumpy too, I have a nasty cold, I ache all over and I feel like Pants and on top of that I've got six weeks of a five year old at home!"It better not be Rain Fall for the next 6 weeks - I've two 6 year olds here and we'll need to get out the house... ALOT!
I've broken up and do feel better for it! One of my class bought me a Pandora charm, how sweet is that! They all went off worried about starting the juniors. Hoping the germs will leave me alone. Germ Warfare
My daughters can't wait to be juniors - they're telling anyone who'll listen that they are in Year 3 soon. The're excited as will be going swimming every week and going to be learning about the Romans!
It's so exciting for them, new playground especially. They have a new teacher and are worried about doing hard work - bless.
Yes, new playground is exciting but they're scandalised that they're not getting an afternoon playtime anymore!
My lad doesn't break up until Wednesday...is it later the further South you get? Anyone here from the Isle of Wight!!Off to Chessington WOA tomorrow...wish me luck in the hordes!! If anything's likely to make me grumpy...
So are mine! When I did year 3 I arranged for them to have afternoon play for the first half-term to aclimatise. Year 3 is lovely, nice topics and alot of consolidation of maths from year 2.
Aarrrghhhh! Am having a 'Nick & Dave' moment with my Broadband which is starting to make me incredibly Grumpy UK...So I'm logging off, before I don't have a computer to come back to & need to calling something to fix the laptop shaped hole in the window...
Ciao mi hearties. x
Our year 6 were upset and want to stay.Okay, a grumpy topic: when I go into a new topic it has 'email me ...' at the bottom. I keep having to change it manually to 'notify only'. My settings are notify not email so can any one explain it or help me stop it.
Click the little edit word & choose from the options for each topic....... ]
Anyway I'm grumpy cos there's not enough grumpiness and literary links lately and too much primary school gossip - I sentence you all to read

I do click the edit word and change it. However, it's annoying when I've set everything up to notify and then pop into a new thread and notice it has email. My group settings are all on notify so why do random threads change it!!!
Okay, I know I am going to start calm...but get incredibly grumpy in the next ten minutes. How do I know?...because I have to get my lad of his Wii game & to bed...ultimately shouting "
" - before returning to 'planet booze' for a debrief! Tally Ho!!

Kay now I'm grumpy because your inflicting the Wii on a poor child. Shame on you surely an x-box360 is more suitable!!
Halo [book:First Strike|615921] is a very suitable game :P
From listening to the children at school, I believe Grand Auto Theft is a wholesome popular game for young people.
Helen wrote: "From listening to the children at school, I believe Grand Auto Theft is a wholesome popular game for young people."Yes also very educational - teaches valuable lessons such as how to steal a car and the best explosives to use in a bank robbery :~
Helen wrote: "I believe it also shows how to treat the opposite sex with respect."Well sort of :~ but I suppose it's a step forward from sexist games where the princess always needs to be rescued.
Progress? Just not in quite the right direction!!
Okay you lot! Calm down - he brought the Wii himself with Christmas & saved money (financial responsibility) & was playing a Marvel Fab4 game (socially aware superheroes of both sexes).Didn't make it any easier to coax him off it though... it was me barking Halo'esque orders! Now where's my trusty AK? Grrr...

Ahh why didn't you say so - speaking as a geeky comic reader I applaud your work to encourage geekery in the younger generation!!
Unfortunately my poor humor seems to have made Helen grumpy - so I'm off before she can give me detention :(
In primary we tend to deduct minutes from playtime rather than dish detention. They get to sit pondering the error of their ways instead of playing or eating dinner. However, I'm on holidays which are unpaid so I don't give a monkeys what you get up to!
Very grumpy as I didn't get much sleep, worked from 12:00 to 21:30 and then went to the standby room. Just sat on the bed with my de-caf and The Stand when my phone rang, neurosurgeon had just booked a case, but the patient not ready yet. Called again at 23:00 and went back to work til 4 this morning. Finally to bed for about an hours sleep, getting to be a habit.Need to get a proper job.
I'm grumpy today because of lack of sleep too. 3 hours last night! Just couldn't settle, evven after reading.

Doesn't help, but people who look at YOU probably think "Now that's a proper job! I'm bored being stuck in an office..."
Mind you, I've been off sick for a few months and the thing I DO NOT miss is being on call... Getting home after a long day & the 'phone rings before you've even sat down, then the next few hours being a write off...
But we don't do it for the money...just as well really!!!
I spent yesterday, the day after a hetic night shift (patient didn't sleep so no reading!) moving furniture and painting two tables and now I have terrible hip ache! I just got up, looked around my bedroom and thought that my feature wall should be painted now before my new bedroom furniture arrives sometime tomorrow! Anyone who can persuade me to just sit down and read a book please get in touch!
Lynne....perhaps you should wait until after your new furniture comes, just in case it looks great with your original wall colour. If you need help to chill out Everyday Calm: Relaxing Rituals for Busy People. But just in case you decide to go ahead and paint What to Do When It Hurts: Self-Diagnosis and Rehabilitation of Common Aches and Pains!

One small rule - anything you moan about has to have some literary link however tenuous....well we are a book group...sort of!!
I'll go first..........
