I finished the book today & edited my first post because I had posted a spoiler in my ignorance of how the authors would handle the story. Don't read up on the men until after reading this book. I gave it 4 stars. It might deserve another. Really good.My review is here:

"Wilderness" is a western about 2 early mountain men; John Colter and Hugh Glass. I'm somewhat familiar with the actual historical accounts & have noticed some differences, so these are fictionalized accounts, but good just the same. The book alternates chapters, starting with Colter & then switching to Glass.
Colter is known for his infamous run, while Glass is known for surviving a bear attack & then making his way back to civilization. Their stories are stranger than fiction & I find it amusing that the fictionalized account is actually tamer in some ways than the true stories. That any humans could have done what they did is just incredible.
