I just finished reading Escape. I really enjoyed the book and related to it on several levels but never did completely understand about the coyotes in the story. Maybe I didn't get it because I'm from Texas, where hearing coyotes is common and not a big deal? Or was it simply that Emily found peace when they were around? And why didn't others hear them?
Thank you for all the good reads thru the years and taking time to chat with your fans. :-)
Emily did find peace from the coyotes. She remembered them from her earlier time in Bell Valley and, this time especially, identified with their survival instinct, perhaps took inspiration from it. Perhaps others didn't need to hear them? Perhaps the coyotes didn't call aloud to her at all, but only in her head? It was a magical element that I wanted to add.
Thank you. While I was reading, in my head, I compared them to hearing or not hearing the bell ring in "The Polar Express"....I think that kind of goes along with what you said.
