Jukka I got to believe there will be a dynamite movie made of this someday.

Who would you cast as Lacey?

How about some of the others: Daniel (narrator), Patrice, Barton Talley, Agent Parks, Tanya Ross?

Phillip Seymour Hoffman is too old for Daniel, otherwise he'd be perfect in my opinion.

N Bryce Dallas Howard?

Pieshine I'd be curious to see a movie of this one. I enjoyed the book but didn't remotely connect or care that much about Lacey. Can't picture her being good girl friend material among other qualities.

Marcia Noren Whoever plays Lacey would have to be an actress who people love to hate. Hmmm. Winona Ryder? She really needs a come-back vehicle, and the U.S. can forgive anything but celebrities who get caught shop-lifting.

maryAnn An arty film for sure....who would you cast as Lacey, Jukka? I will give that some thought. Winona Ryder's a decent suggestion, Marcia.

Jukka Do you (MaryAnn) really want to know? Well it may surprise a little, it's someone a little lesser known ... so it's not Rooney Mara. (Who? the Dragon Tattoo girl though she'd might be interesting, i think she has the range.)

So the lesser known actress, who i think has that presence; a thinking villain sort. Cassidy Freeman! Probably best known for her villainous role in Smallville (Tess Mercer).

And i do like the suggestion of Bryce Dallas Howard too.

maryAnn Sure I do, Jukka. Although I read Larsson's three stories, I did not see any one of the movies. And yesyesyes I have heard they held the integrity of the books. I like my images and enjoy keeping those intact. Where the Wild Things Are is one of the few book/movies that I have enjoyed. You must enjoy movies as well as books. Bravo! Do you have any book/movie sharings?

William Not only can Steve Martin write and deliver some tremendous stand-up routines, act, and is a banjo virtuoso (I highly recommend his album, The Crow: New Songs for the 5-String Banjo , even if you're not that much of a fan of folk or bluegrass), he's a tremendous storyteller and developer of characters.

There's a very cool air and steely edge and deep seeded drive to succeed at any cost in Lacey. I can't think of anyone better than Charlize Theron to portray Lacey on screen. And for Daniel, there has to be a sense of awe and gullibility to the role. How about John Cusack?

Kim Parker Posey

Rosiehope I think Kirsten Dunst could do it well. She was good in how to lose friends and alienate people- I think it could work.

Kate D Had to verify that. I would like Gwenneth Paltrow, but will see.

Elaine Kasteler Charlize Theron

Joclyn Reese Whitherspoon as Lacey, and Joseph Gorden-Levitt as Daniel?

Susie Amy Adams, really? I think she's too close to this project for some reason.. she's also producing it. I can't imagine a worse choice for Lacey, unless Amy has some hidden deep-down acting chops we don't know about

J Wow! That is a fantastic question!! You have given me something really fun to think about. I'll get back to you!!

Sim Carter Susie, I think Amy Adams is a terrific actress but, Lacy is sooo unlikeable, I can't imagine buying her in the role either.
I think Charlize Theron would have been an amazing choice. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is probably too young for Daniel but yep, need someone innocent for sure.
I have a blog by the way (ha ha, don't we all?!) which is about films based on books. I would LOVE this opinionated bunch to weigh in on my site! it's http://www.chapter1-take1.blogspot.com Thanks for the support! If you visit me I will visit your blog too

Jukka Maybe they will change the story to match the qualities of the lead. This wouldn't be the first time. [Perhaps Sim this is a topic for your blog.]

I much prefer the story as Martin wrote it. The book, it seems to me, was written ready for screen. So many books just won't be moved to screen as is, without adaptation, but An Object of Beauty seems ready made.

Sim Carter That's true Jukka. I'm thinking The Rum Diary, Hunter S. Thompson's first novel and one that I liked. Then Johnny Depp - God bless him - had to go and honor his dear genius friend and do the movie version. In the book his character is under 30 vs the bloated Depp they gave us in the movie. The film went so far as to lose a character completely (Yaemon) AND give that character's girlfriend (Chenault) to someone else (Sanderson). What chutzpah! Oh well, I hear that they are changing the ending to Great Expectations, the one with Helena Bonham Carter, which comes out end of this year. It's only Dickens after all!

Julie Scarlett Johansen as Lacey and Jude Law as Daniel

Laurie Blake Lively
