Cameron Harris (cameroniharris) Who is excited for the 20th aniversary of Heir to the Empire. I will be getting the 20th anniversary book the day it comes out. Who was everyone's favorite character in the Thrawn trilogy?

message 2: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Van Ness | 41 comments THRAWN!!!

message 3: by Cameron (new)

Cameron Harris (cameroniharris) ha Thrawn is my favorite EU character.

message 4: by Cameron (new)

Cameron Harris (cameroniharris) Agreed. Also I believe there is a novella included.

Katy | 15 comments Unfortunately I already own a copy of Heir to the Empire, so I can't really justify buying this copy, but I'll be sure to pick a copy up from my library as soon as they get it!

And of course, Thrawn is the best character in the trilogy. It's even named after him!

message 6: by Cameron (new)

Cameron Harris (cameroniharris) Ha I too have a copy of Heir to the Empire. I really just want to support Zahn for his contributions to the EU. Writers have to eat too ha

message 7: by Katy (new)

Katy | 15 comments Not only is it new, but it's shiny, too!

...but I'm a poor college student, and I already spend more than I ought on books. *sigh*

Ha I will be a poor college in about two weeks so I understand the feeling :(

Thrawn was my favorite also.

Isn't this the trilogy that introduced Mara Jade? I remember liking her more in this series, than in the ones that followed.

message 10: by Cameron (new)

Cameron Harris (cameroniharris) yes it was. I think she was at her peak in the Thrawn Duology (Specter of the Past/Visions of the Future)

message 11: by Katy (new)

Katy | 15 comments She's pretty awesome in the new series Zahn is writing (Allegiance, Choices of One), too.

message 12: by Cameron (new)

Cameron Harris (cameroniharris) I just finished choices of one. I liked her characterization but her role as the emperor hand was uninteresting.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

I think the interesting thing about seeing her as Emperor's Hand is understanding what Luke meant when he first told her that although she was a servant of the Emperor, she wasn't a Dark-sider. You really get the sense that she believes she's serving the cause of justice.

The most uninteresting thing about it, of course, is that we all know she's wrong, and that someday she will realize it. It's like reading the end of the story first, then checking out the middle.

I think Thrawn, Mara and Pellaeon are the most interesting EU characters - and you know what sucks about that...

message 14: by Noah (new)

Noah N. (NoarkadRaze) | 23 comments Thrawn definitely ranks as best in the Thrawn Trilogy. (Dur, it's named after him) :D As far as favorite EU character in general goes, I'm torn between Kal Skirata and Jaster Mereel...

I need to get Choices of One, Allegiance was amazing, and anything that focuses on Clone/Imp troops instantly hooks me. :D
Udesii, vode.

message 15: by Cameron (new)

Cameron Harris (cameroniharris) Which books do Kal Skirata and Jaster Mereel appear?

message 16: by Cameron (new)

Cameron Harris (cameroniharris) I have not read many trooper novels, are they good?

message 17: by Noah (new)

Noah N. (NoarkadRaze) | 23 comments Skirata is in the RC series, Mereel appears in one of the Omnibus graphic novels (though there is a trooper named Mereel in RC).
I must say that I agree that there's some real anti-jedi propaganda in the RC series, but despite that they remain my favorite books, I highly recommend them. They really show Mandos in more depth than other books.
Udesii vode.

message 18: by Cameron (new)

Cameron Harris (cameroniharris) I will definitely read them

message 19: by *Kashi* (new)

*Kashi* | 12 comments I'll have a look too. Well I'm Excited about the 20th anniversary, Those were the books that made me really read more of the EU. My Favorite SW series.

Cameron Harris (cameroniharris) holy crap that looks amazing (drools)

message 23: by Katy (new)

Katy | 15 comments Ohhhhhh, that's gorgeous. I think I've fallen in love =D

message 24: by Noah (new)

Noah N. (NoarkadRaze) | 23 comments *whistles* Yeah, I think it's about time I bought the Thrawn trilogy. :D

message 25: by Kyle (last edited Aug 10, 2011 05:45AM) (new)

Kyle (emperor799) | 80 comments Well, it's not their 20th anniversary yet. If this sells like wildfire, I bet we'll see similar editions of the other two as the years roll 'round.

message 26: by Noah (new)

Noah N. (NoarkadRaze) | 23 comments Hm, still time I bought the Thrawn trilogy. :P
Udesii, vode.

message 27: by Noah (new)

Noah N. (NoarkadRaze) | 23 comments I see your point Michael, but I think the entire series is rather iconic to EU. Yes Heir was the first one, but the entire Thrawn Trilogy was huge. I mean, Splinter of the Mind's Eye was the first EU book ever, but they're not making an anniversary edition of that, partly because it was horrible, but it also wasn't that big, the entire Thrawn Tril. was huge, not just Heir.
Udesii, vode.

I think things that make lots of money hold a special place in Lucasfilm/Books's hearts, and the whole trilogy made lots of money. ;-)

Mara Jade is my favourite, but Thrawn and Karrde were also great.

And the book cover for the 20th Anniversary Edition looks gorgeous. I can't wait to get my hands on it. :)

Cameron Harris (cameroniharris) Derrick wrote: "now that is some seriously sexy looking book! I have to get me some of that :)"

my thoughts exactly

message 31: by Alex (new)

Alex (alexure) | 1 comments I see the last comment here was 2 years ago,now I must go seek out this book. Yes I own the original (at least a 20 year old copy) but I have a thing about collecting editions of my favourite books - I have 4 copies of the Invisible Man :-)

Oh and Thrawn was the best character. All the way.

message 32: by Deeptanshu (new)

Deeptanshu | 42 comments I have to go with Thrawn as well. One of the best characters ever.

message 33: by Jonny (new)

Jonny Blaze | 30 comments Thrown is an absolutely fascinating character. Between reading about him in the 20th Ann. copy I picked up on release, and now reading more about him in Outbound Flight (currently reading)...wow! I can't help but really like him. ^_^
