I wasn't too sure about this book to begin with, but it turned out that the scene that was bothering me (planning the rebellion, which I found a bit tedious) was the only one. Overall I really enjoyed reading it. For a first in a trilogy, I was pleasantly surprised to see a lot happen and an unusual amount of closure. It worked well as a standalone book; leaving your with just left a few teasers for the potential of the next book rather than with a cliff hanger.
I will be reading the others.
I was really surprised by this book. The first section of the book is very reminiscent of all the heist movies of the last decade and in my opinion fell a little flat. I unfortunately have seen far too many of these movies and thought that if the book went on just like this it would be predictable and stale. Luckily I was tempted to read on to see more of the world and characters. The world of “Mistborn” is intriguing to say the least. A world where the sun is constantly occluded by ash falling from the sky and green plants are things of a very distant past is one of the most original settings I have seen for a fantasy in a long time. The magic system was very original too. Both allomancy and feruchemy are interesting and made for some spectacular action scenes that made you feel like you were right there in the mix.
I thoroughly enjoyed “Mistborn” to point where I have ordered the sequels and started one of Sanderson's other books “The Way of Kings.” I would recommend this book to anyone who likes action packed fantasy and strong world building.
What an introduction into this book club! I couldn't be more pleased. I was surprised (like several of the earlier posts) that a book I had never heard of could be so delicious. I have just started the 2nd in the series, and will have to manage reading it along side of the new club choice. If the books this group picks are all as juicy a meal as Mistborn, I am likely to fall behind in reading.
I really enjoyed this book. I spent some time reading to catch up with some of the previously selected books, but this was a fun, uncomplicated read. The constant reference to the benefits of each metal was a little repetitive. I found Vin's easy transition into upper class society a bit contrived, and the resurrection was a bit much. Overall, it was entertaining and passed too quickly. Very vivid descriptions without going overboard on insignificant details.
I'm almost finished with the second book now and I have to say the series continues in form and is still a fanstastic read.
Well I'm half way through the third installment in the trilogy and it has been fantastic. Still the first one remains to be the best but I have to say I am very impressed with the Mistborn storyline.
I am about half through The Alloy of Law. It is a really fun book so far. Self contained and it is not necessary to read the trilogy first...but you would miss all the fun details if you did not.
I hadn't read much fantasy in a while, not having found a decent book/series to get into.I randomly got this as a sample for my I-pad and quickly read the first 60 or so pages that came with the sample and imediatly bought the trilogy and flew through them in a few weeks and continued to plow through all of Brandon Sanderson's books Elantris, The Way of Kings, Warbreaker, and ending with his latest work Alloy of Law, which I was disappointed to have finished in a few days. I loved all of his books with the exception of his short story Infinity Blade. If you have any doubt about the Mistborn trilogy you should keep reading as it is well worth it.
Sanderson is a brilliant author that employs some unique magic systems that have already impressed many.

I am definitely glad that I made this decision. This book was absolutely fantastic. I spent nights fighting sleep reading passages killing myself with lack of sleep followed by high dosages of caffeine in the morning. The reviews rave about the magic system and I can only agree with it. I always have had the opinion that if an author attempts to explain something no matter how outlandish it is as long as he/she never violates his rules a reader will always accept it. This is exactly what Brandon Sanderson accomplished with this most original of magic systems.
Personally my favorite thing about this book is the way Brandon presented his two characters, Vin and Kelsier. These two are the driving forces that kept me awake for hours, I only wanted to see if they would make it through the next ball or what nobleman would be attacked. This all came together in the final 150 pages which I read in one night. It was unexpected and awesome at the same time. So I must say thank you to all who voted on this book. I loved it even though I voted for I Robot, a book I still want to read.
