Nikki was at her house with Jason (her bro!). Their dad was out, and they were thankful for it

Josh knocked on Nikki's door. It looked like their dad was gone, so he could come over.

She got up off the couch to answer the door. She opened it. "Hey," she smiled.

"Hey how's it going?"

Good," she shrugged, stepping aside so he could come in. "And you?"

"The same as usual when I am around you" Josh said as he entered the door smiling.

She smiled and closed the door, walking back into the living room where Jason was.

Josh followed. "So what's been going on?"

She shrugged a little, "You know, the usual," she said softly.

Josh nodded at Jason who was on the couch. "Your dad been causing you trouble" Josh whispered.

Yeah," she whispered back, sitting back on the couch.

"You should really call the cops about that creep" he whispered.

She shook her head, "We did once, they thought we were pulling a joke." she whispered back, looking to Jason before the tv.

"You didn't show them the bruises?"

She shook her head again. "No," she whispered sadly.

"Why not?"

She just shook her head, not saying another word.

Josh stopped asking questions when she went silent. He knew her long enough to know when to stop. "So anything good on" he said at a normal volume.

Jason shook his head. "No, I don't think anything good is ever on," Nikki said.

"Hey you wanna go do something?"

She nodded a little. "Sure," she said softly

'Alright where you wanna go?"

"Anywhere.." she shrugged.

'How about the park?"

"Sure, I'll go grab a jacket." she said, going upstairs and slipping on a light jacket.

Josh was already outside waiting when she came back down. "Ready to go" he asked when she walked out the door.

She nodded a little. "Yeah," she said, putting her hands in the pocket of her jacket.
