Louise | 279 comments I saw Michael's post on the Books on the night stand site, and was wondering if the rest of you have specific books calling out to you from your tbr pile or that aren't out yet?

Rohinton Mistry - author of A Fine Balance among others - is one of my favorite writers and has not published anything in ages. It is rumored that he will have a new book out in 2012 and I cannot wait.

nancy (npjacoby) | 261 comments I'm with you Suzanne. I loved A Fine Balance, in fact it was
one of my Two Books You Should Read choices for the retreat.
Thanks for the info...now more pressure to read faster! Best, N

W. Joe Smith (spiders96) | 19 comments I like Toni's list. I've been looking for a good fiction list and there are some good ones here. I've read The Imperfectionists and highly recommend it. I love books that focus on depth of character, interconnected plots, and the dysfunction of relationships. This book offers all of that and more.

I was inspired by this thread to start a "personal meme" which I 'm going start posting every Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. ("Ten on Tuesday") on my tumblr account. The idea is to basically provide a focus guide for myself and to let people know that I read print titles as well as listen to audiobooks! I cited (and linked) this thread to give credit where credit is due :-)

Sure! I'm dog eared copy (if you want to follow) and today's link which features "Ten On Tuesday": tumblr.com/x3t44s92k1
It's a pretty spare post, basically just a list; but hopefully over the coming weeks I'll be able to flush it out to something a bit more interesting!

I'm impressed that you read quickly enough that a weekly list would change at all. For me, it would be the same 10 books for awhile... :)

Actually, it's all because of The +11 in '11 Reading Challenge, that I'm reading so much this year! I've been watching virtually no television. I saw a couple football games earlier (half of the playoffs and all of the Superbowl) and exactly one-and-a-half hours of cartoons one afternoon with my daughter, *and that's been it for the whole year!" It looks like the more you read, the more you read! Imagine what I could do if I could wean myself of of the internet! Albeit, there have been times when I've felt myself slogging a little bit. That's when I goto a graphic novel. Somehow, Hellboy or Fables recharge me :-)

message 13: by Libby (new)

Libby (libbyw) | 131 comments I probably add 10 to my stacks of books a week. I went twice to Border's going out of business sale and I'm always buying books that I hear about through either my local independent store, ebay or ABE. I have a blog on Blogspot, so maybe I'll start posting what I've bought for future reading.

I sure won't be able to read that many in one week, though. I think I'll try to keep a rolling list of 10 ToBeRead books. I may start another list of research books since I'm reading some of those along with fun fiction.

Oh, I won't all read ten titles in one week either! The list will evolve over the course of a week. The list just helps me focus a bit and lets some of my followers know that I actually do read (not just listen to audiobooks.) It[s kind of funny when I hear arguments about audiobooks vs print books because most of the audiobook listeners I know are also heavy print readers!

message 19: by Vanessa (new)

W. Joe Smith (spiders96) | 19 comments I decided to list 5 fiction and 5 non-fiction for my list. So many books...so little time. I guess that's one of the beautiful things about this passion. That is, there will always be more great books than any of us can possibly read.

"The Curious Incident of a Dog in the Nightime," is an all-time favorite of mine. And it's very short to make such an impression. I'm also reading Ready Player One, just picked it up yesterday. I listened to "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" a few years ago on Audible.com and it was entertaining, but I wasn't blown away. He's quite funny though.

Louise | 279 comments Well Brandon, for a long time I've had a hunch that "The Curious Incident of a Dog in the Nightime," wasn't for me, but the other day I found a really cheap copy of the hardback, so now I'll give it a go! :-)

I'm trying to be helpful, Jennifer, but I don't know what your post refers to. What exactly don't you understand?

message 40: by Gerald (new)

message 41: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Kowaczek Linda, I don't understand why it says I have negative one new comments. It doesn't say two or three, it says negative one. Thank you for trying to be helpful.

Gerald I will try the feedback group you mentioned. Thank you.

message 42: by C. John (new)

C. John Kerry (cjkerry) | 117 comments That is a weird one. I am going to think a previous respondent was correct and it means that a new comment has been deleted. I have had the situation where I have an email telling me there is a new comment on thread but when I click and get there it says there is no comment to be found. I have always presumed that new comment was deleted by the author (since a look for one by that person always turns up nothing) before I got to the thread.

message 43: by C. John (new)

C. John Kerry (cjkerry) | 117 comments Oh and Jennifer ask your questions by all means. The only way we learn anything is by asking.

message 44: by Linda (new)

Linda | 3113 comments Mod
To add to the above, I or any of the administrators for the site can delete comments.

For instance, when Ann and Michael were active administrators, they did not allow solicitation ("Hey! Come look at the book I just published.") I have continued the same and just deleted one the other day.

Despite what it may look like, I can not be "on" here 24/7, so sometimes it may take me a little bit to "clean house."

And, Jennifer, we really are a friendly and helpful group. Ask away.
