Tinted

my arms are oustretched. we're holding up the tinted sky.
it's hard to chase em
those dreams tied down to the horizon,
balloons of shimmer and smoke that haunt
beguile
amaze

you're just
a little burnt at the sides
just a little tinted with char
you're the melting of heaven
and the running streaks of the sun.

have I ever seen a grass this level of chartreuse
a sky this magnitude of ultramarine
clouds
tinted
lavender?

tiger-lily-popsicle-stick all across the world
lick me down all over,
sugary sweet celestial-born.
the sweet is so sweet it is tinted with bitter.

now you wake and yawn, shh not sleeping anymore
pink petals of a mouth clamping shut in a yawn
i dub thee
beholder of the window,
glass tinted and frosted

don't look now, because the empyrean view is blinding
there are no tints,
there are just tints.
black/blue/indigo/violet/magenta/rose/orange/fire/yellow
clash at wars with one another.

share a secret sideways smile, draw the curtains.
you knew
the imperfection was far more perfect this way.

[Poem written for a contest for this group. Inspired by twelve hours of staring at a sky during road-trip, it goes backwards during the stages of day- night, sunset, day, dawn. Tints, considered imperfections and flaws - the opposite of purity - make everything much more perfect.]

Shudder

hello sweetheart.
hell’s gates seem all the more wider
with your devastating smile.
there are soft curls of your hair that circle
when i dance fingers through
there’s a vein that’s coloured blue-green
in the translucent skin under your eye
and caramelized burnt umber seems
like a delight that i pride myself on.
there’s that annoying breeze that flits
and flirts
this way
and that
without making up its mind, without a destination held
in that enigmatic light-and-dark of last night.
this morning. tomorrow afternoon.
they all seem as eternal to me as envy.
that laugh is painfully ephemeral
the touch momentary
and all the while i’m smiling, too-

i’m lighter than a worry on a willow.

Sapientia

got a smile like a thousand watts, all sunny
got a look like warm and golden honey
got hips that charm you, dancing hips
got lips that seduce you, kissing lips

(i can lie like wine from its bottle, baby
turned from yeses from ifs to maybes.)

paint over the scars with a jewelled compact,
fiction is my future, was my distant past.
poetry’s a lie. my speeches are all too.
the cuts i made myself and the truth is a bruise.

(tell me what you want whispered in your ear
i’ll give you a laugh or a smile or a giggle or a leer)

i’m fogged up – i’m not real. i don’t exist,
but neither does reality and neither does this
swirl me in your riddles, paint me with your smoke
tighten up that girdle round my neck to choke.

Ache

fleeting the medium that flows and ebbs,
relativity and subjectivity,
tide crashes on sand and I feel the waves
pound like blood.

stupid girl with a big mouth and pretty words,
she thinks she’s a fucking mermaid.

someone’s washed up by the salt waves – old lady –
coughs up ‘Aphrodite’
but those hands she’s got, wrinkled hands,
spidery veins jutting out from weathered skin
(weathered like that music book, soft blue washed faded denim).

so anyway with those hands of hers
she’s pointing me to all the wrong directions and I’m like
ilovebeing/lost
embryonic electronic catatonic state.
the little prince, Aryan child, he got lost too, bitten by a snake
killed by a rose
we’re the deadly ones, we with the thorns.

I wonder what her lips taste like.

kiss me soldier. I dare you.
kiss me like an animal,
you’re dying tomorrow.

Lurve the second stanza, Whim. And this part:

kiss me soldier. I dare you.
kiss me like an animal,
you’re dying tomorrow.

. . . and pretty much the whole thing!

Google, duct tape, WD-40, and a towel. That's all you need in life.

message 24: by . (new)

. (onawhim) but food.

Maggie (maggie-swift) | 139 comments Mod
Naw, food isn't all it's cracked up to be. :D

Neccessities of Life

1. Duct tape

2. Google

3. Food and Water

message 29: by . (new)

. (onawhim) And WD-40.

message 30: by Shayla (new)

Shayla (shaylaalexander) What's WD-40?

message 31: by . (new)

. (onawhim) GOOGLE IT! xD

message 32: by Shayla (new)

Shayla (shaylaalexander) xD I SHALL *flies off to Google Toolbar* *types in WD-40* Why would we want a bike cleaning product? O.o

message 33: by Maggie (new)

Maggie (maggie-swift) | 139 comments Mod
Well, the necessities of life was sorta… besides basic needs. 'Cause then people get all picky with things like "sleep" or "oxygen" or "homeostasis" and such. Duct tape and WD-40 fix everything, and Google will answer all your questions. And if you've ever read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, then you should put a towel on the list, too.

message 34: by Shayla (new)

Shayla (shaylaalexander) I need to read that!

You can use it for cleaning, greasing, oiling, whatever. It's the answer to anything household. You can even use it to get a ring off your finger or something sticky off your hands.

message 37: by Shayla (new)

Shayla (shaylaalexander) And compressed air! My mom uses it to fix everything. She used it to fix my keyboard today.
