Helen | 3460 comments If we counted separate states of US I'd have quite a few more!

message 3: by Robert (new)

Robert (bobhe) | 748 comments That looks a good start
is that from beginning of the year?
I was surprised when looked back how many I could cover

Not sure the Gargoyle's main location was Germany (USA in my version with Germany, England and Japan as sub locations).....I've always wanted to catch a teacher cheating lol - detention and 5,000 lines of "I am the catcher caught!"

message 5: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3460 comments You said if a book had multiple locations you could only pick one, whilst burnt guy is in US the tale in back story features Germany!

The jury ie me will go into recess, examine the evidence and consider the verdict - hope you have a great holiday

Helen | 3460 comments Thanks.

Have you decided on the verdict yet Ian as I am reading this one too!

message 10: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3460 comments I'm keeping it so he'd better agree! Seems I'm following you around the threads Lynne.

Ian (pepecan) | 5078 comments Mod
Sorry.......USA is the main location

message 12: by Dave (new)

Dave Wood (pocket7976) | 772 comments Is it actually USA through, I must admit I assumed it was Canada, as the location is never actually mentioned, and that's where the authors from.

Maybe you could count either - or even Germany could be set there in the present I guess.

Pedantic me?? Not much??

message 13: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3460 comments The author is from Canada so IF I'm not allowed germany I'll have that but if a book is set in different places as the author himself says then how can you limit me to one - particularly when US isn't mentioned in it?

message 14: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3460 comments "the country that's never specified" That is Amazon's description of the Gargoyle setting, they go on to say that Marianne describes their story in various settings with germany first!!!!!!!

message 15: by Ian, Moderator (new)

Ian (pepecan) | 5078 comments Mod
General rule I'm trying to apply is just one country per book with that country being the place where the most "action" takes place.

Given that USA isn't mentioned specifically, Germany OK.

Helen | 3460 comments Thank you very much xxx

Did you enjoy - the tissues almost came out when I read this very sad ending :(

message 26: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3460 comments Well, I'm actually 63% through. It's alright, not feeling very involved in it though.

message 27: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3460 comments OMG! Was happily reading along on the commute 7.40am, when fell into a book written by Max. Writing was miniscule and it wouldn't let me enlarge. Was the dtb version tiny - letters were a mm tall.

Helen | 3460 comments Deanne wrote: "Helen, I think Norwegian Wood is set in Japan."

I've corrected it, thanks. Have you read it?

message 35: by Deanne (new)

Deanne | 651 comments Read it, and loved it, but Murakami is one of my favourite authors.

message 36: by Andrew (new)

Andrew | 969 comments I'd echo that, I loved Norwegian wood but recently read 1Q84 which was totally bonkers but worth the effort although ending so so. I've not read any other Murakami but keep thinking I should.

Em (emmap) | 2702 comments I loved that book! Traumatic though...

message 39: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3460 comments I know. I was supposed to be planning R.E. today but couldn't put it down.

message 40: by Andrew (new)

Andrew | 969 comments It was a tough read and I think I preferred it to The Kite Runner but both were great, think he has a new book out?

message 41: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3460 comments Yes, I keep seeing adverts for it. I read it for my book group on Wednesday.

message 46: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3460 comments I wish I'd had the fore-sight to put my books in the opening post, it's so annoying scrolling through to see where I've been and if a book can qualify. Suppose I should edit now when I only have 13 to add.

Andrew | 969 comments Wow Helen you have inspired me ,if I can ever get on computer at home after children allow me on i might have a go this weekend! Great choice of colour.

message 50: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3460 comments Thanks Andrew.

Ian, I found it quite disjointed as a novel, it switches perspective but the chapter ident wasn't that obvious.
