Suggestions for the Group?
I'm looking for a good "Challengers of the Unknown" Cover, (DC Comics). Well a scan of said comic.
Uh...Que es qu ce..."Swap Thread?" It's not easy being a newbie, but somebody has to do it. Sigh, teach me to fish please. It's better than giving me fish.
Swap Thread is where people can post books they want to trade. I thought you were getting at that with your question about the comic book.
It wasn't but I like the way you read it better. I mean.. .(ahem, clear throat) yes, like a swap thread.
I think we need a picture for our group. I'm going load one when I get home from work. If you guys don't like the picture I pick, I'm totally okay with it if you decide to change it. :) I just feel that we need something to help attract members.
I like it, too. I like how, at first it looks like a simple gun, then when you make the picture bigger you notice that it's a book in the outline of a gun. And the message on it just wowed me.
If you guys want to change it, though, go right a head. I don't mind. I just wanted something there for now. Anything is much better than the Goodreads default question mark.

I read the discussion for mods and you brought up groupreads. I was thinking that movies are such a big part of the action genre maybe this club could have a groupwatch along with, or without a groupread. It wouldn't have to be new movies. Theaters can be expensive or hard to get to. Maybe rentable movies? Just a thought I had, that I felt like sharring.
Wouldn't really know what that entails. Very new to online communities and almost computer illiterate. :)
A group watch sounds like fun - especially since I'm more likely to watch an action-type movie than read a book.I'm not volunteering! :P
Nothing more than starting a thread, creating a poll to vote for a movie, and sending a reminder for when the group watch starts. No pressure at all to anyone, but I really like to get members involved in activities. If you let me do it, we'll be watching Jason Statham movies every month! :)
Lady Danielle "The Book Huntress" wrote: " If you let me do it, we'll be watching Jason Statham movies every month! :) "I'd be ok with that.
Colleen of the Crawling Chaos wrote: "A group watch sounds like fun - especially since I'm more likely to watch an action-type movie than read a book.I'm not volunteering! :P"
Please....? Lol.
I don't mind as long as there's help if I get confused. At work right now on my phone. Tonight I'll open a thread for ideas. I'm thinking a poll to decide on a theme, as we keep seeing action is included in almost every genre, and then another poll to decide on movie.
What about a thread in the "Getting to know you department where anyone who wants to could post a You Tube link to their "Theme song?"
Kind of like the turn it up/turn it down on other threads?

I was thinking that we might want to amend the title of the group, or the ground rules or both to include Police Procedurals and Suspense/Thrillers.
Where I'm game to discuss any books anyone comes up with, I think Mike has a point. I'm not nearly as narrow in vision as he is, but we do tend to lump things even I, in my leftist, most liberal ways, see as more a police thriller or suspense novel.
Or even open a section under 'other than adventure/action novels where we can discuss the books we like. There seems to be an appitite amongst members for more than AA. Just a thought. I'm open to hearing other ideas.

Hugh, you are more than welcome to change the name of the group, or add to the description, as far as I am concerned. In my opinion, I think action/adventure is a pretty broad genre, but I can respect if others have a more specific view. So, if you feel that a name change in order, go for it.
The only think I would consider is that there are plenty of mystery/suspense groups out there. How many action groups are on GRs. I think that the title of the group should reflect that we are specifically A/A fans, even if we do discuss and consider other genres.

I'll think about it. I just want to keep the books we are talking about including those in question, in the discussion so everyone can enjoy them and feel free to join the discussion.
I don't mind pushing the bounaries a little bit in the name of inclusion... hell I don't mind forgtting the boundaries all together.
Still thinking. I wouldnt change anything without talking to you guys first.
I like the discussion of those books on the fringe between action adventure and suspence thriller (police thriller) because the books are good.
we may not need to do anything in particular... I could just be grumpy... ran out of prune juice.

Guys, based on your comments, I changed the group description slightly to make it clear that books don't have to be strictly in the A/A genre, so long as they have some action/adventure elements. If you want to modify or add to it, please feel free:
If you enjoy reading pulse-pounding, high octane action and adventure novels, this is the group for you. We discuss books from authors such as Lee Child, James Rollins, Clive Cussler, Matt Reilly, Robert Crais, the Rogue Angel books, Robert Ludlum, and others. We also discuss books in other genres that are high on action and adventure thrills. If you enjoy the adrenaline rush of a good action-filled book of any genre, come over and join the discussion.

I like the discription, it sounds perfect. I am uncomfortable that my squeaking in proper wheel format promted a change as a single voice (or got the grease).
My comments were motivated by the realization that we were doing a lot of discussion of books that really didn't fit the AA genre, and, I liked the discussion and wanted to ensure space for it.
Having said that, it is a stronger description of what we've actually been doing, and I like the new discription very much.

That is a great description, Lady D! I love the first sentence! The rest of it fits the group very well, too!
I'm glad to hear it, Eileen.
Thanks, guys! I hope that this opens things up so people realize that there is no gag order on discussing other books here. Hugh, it was a good point!

Hi there, I wanted to start my contribution to the group with a solid Indie author recommendation. Russell Blake. I started reading his work this summer, and have quickly absorbed all of his works. Beyond that, he loves engaging with readers, and frankly, he's scandalously hilarious. His blog is as much fun to read as his books. For action/adventure, I would suggest starting with The Geronimo Breach.
His other books fall more in the thriller category, but are equally entertaining. I reviewed his book in detail on Amazon, and at my blog. Geronimo Breach review Hope you enjoy.
Since Hugh started the review & talk to the author topics, I keep wanting to read the books, but I already have too many in my TBR pile. There aren't enough hours in the day. [grump]
Seriously, good idea, Hugh.
:-)
I'm a puzzle/games fan...anyone interested in adding some kind of games or challenges to our group?
After reading through the "Free and Cheap A/A Book's" thread for the third time, I was thinking it may make searching easier if we had two sub folders, one for Kindle and the other for Nook.I would be more than happy to keep the Nook folder updated. I know we have at least two or three Nook users here.
Just a thought.
Honestly, I don't think we need separate folders or threads at this point, Kevin. But I do suggest that Nook readers post about deals that come up. Those of us who have device loyalty are best able to post about deals. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
Kindle has a lending option on a lot of their books. I've used it before and it is pretty easy. Since a lot of us have kindles and read the same books, I thought a Kindle lending thread might be a good idea. (not sure if Nook does this too). We could list the books that we have that are lendable, or request a book that we would like to borrow from someone else. Not all Kindle books are lendable, but I think there are a fair amount. Might save someone a little bit of money at least.

Does anyone have an idea for a group picture?
