Ah, I want to see the Danish version..yep, that would be Nordic Noir...Yep..there is an american version and it was just picked up for a second season! yippee!!
I watched the American version of The Killing and while it started out strong it sputtered out over time. They tried to draw the story out instead of ending it, and then (this is not a secret so I don't consider it a spoiler) they don't end the story in the finale. Very frankly I felt cheated, it was like you would have to buy the next the book to find out the ending to the previous one. At this point in time I will not watch the 2nd season because I don't really care who killed Rosie Larson and I'm sure that I can find out on the EW web site.I would watch the Danish version, I should check with Neflix to see if it's available.
Well I'll let you know what I make of the Danish one. I heard the ending of the Danish and US ones are a bit different.
I think I'll look for the Danish version of this series. I was pretty disappointed in the ending of the American series and like someone previously posted I'm not sure I'll watch the 2nd season.
SPOILERS..SPOILERS...SPOILERS...I am sure it is that the guy is going to assassinate the congressman and that they are going to go after the male detective for providing false information to cause an arrest...

I am seeing it on Amazon but I am not seeing when it came out on DVD..although it does look like that most reviews were from June....
The reviews were mostly from Britain and the DVD is for region 2 which won't play on our American DVD players. I guess we need to complain to Netflix and Amazon about this.
The Killing part 1 is 20 episodes and it is so well done one can miss things because it may seem slow at first but the detail and design of the character development is addictive. Watched it all on BBC4 and waiting as they re show the first for The Killing II to be shown with English subtitles. Dutch version has been out for ages but I really want to indulge in my mother tongue for the second part. Glad it received awards, well deserved on all levels in my opinion. Tragic that the Americans have to make their own version of everything including Millennium Trilogy. Very sad as the Scandinavian productions are simply fabulous of all dramas they produce from Wallander, Falke, etc....great crime drama from Yellow Bird and others including now making up Jo Nesbo's dramas....
Naomi wrote: "I am game to do so...Or..is it that an American compatible version hasn't been released yet?"I would guess that's the case and I would guess it would happen if they saw some interest.

This inspires me to be keen as mustard to finally see #2 original Danish with English subtitles. Myself I prefer all my dramas in original language as I find it a great part of the atmosphere but while I can manage with Dutch subtitles, I prefer my mother tongue English.
If you want to know the ending Wiki or ask me....
If it's any consolation, I'm going just as bananas trying to get hold of season 2 of Epitafios. For some reason, it wasn't released on DVD over here, and my multi-region player is bust. At least those of you in America can watch that!
Naomi, I would think so, especially since there was and American edition. I really loved the first few episodes of The Killing. The atmosphere was wonderful, the acting great and the writing was engrossing and then someone decided that they needed to tinker with the storyline, make it more American or something. I was often wondered what was the purpose of the campaign story as it didn't really fit with the rest.
Sharon, I will hope and pray that I can watch the original someday and see how it ends.
What show is that, Philip??Marilyn...I think they more than likely will bring it to US television...my understanding is that "nordic" mysteries are really hot here right now. I just wonder how they would do it..I wonder if Sharon has a point with the BBC...I will have to monitor BBC America and see if they do it.
Naomi wrote: "What show is that, Philip??HBO Latin America's serial killer series, sent in Buenos Aires. It's amazing. I waited two years for Season 2 to come out on DVD because apparently, unlike the first season, they never did broadcast it with English subtitles. Now my multi-region DVD is dead and it's only available region 1. So annoying!

The British even gave the Danish drama The Killing a Bafta last season as it was so well received with English subtitles.
The main issues I have are watching on Crime net with other language subs, in my case NL, so try and watch UK,when they carry it. Also applies for the amazing Italian, French, German and so many awesome
Scandinavian drama crime series!!!
Second issue I find is then tracking down REGION 1 or 2' then carefully finding which subs the DVD will offer. Inspector Montalbano is amazing and have seen it c/w NL subs to discover lately the fuller enjpyment with English subs only to find the subtitling was carried out by the Australians bless them as they also love Ialian Noir as much as I do,but they are REGION ONE and I am REGION TWO.....so sad but hold out hope as BBC4 just did a special on Italian NOIR and one episode of Ins Montalbano c.w English subs so I wait and watch for MORE...... Plus The Killing.
I can't wait for the Killing 2, as I absolutely adored the the first series and was glued to BBC 4 when they first aired it...think it is going to be shown some time in the autum which should be soon
Phillip..I found that show that you were talking about on Netflix..I am going to check it out. Season 2 is on Netflix as well, but they have a save on it so it must not be out on DVD yet.
I agree as they just showed repeats nightly. And see this weekend there is a double bill of the French Spirals. I am holding out for BBC4 and English subs. Slow and subtle with fabulous twists, don't you think. Did you catch the Inspector Montalbano and the fab program about Italian Noir a couple of weeks ago on BBC4? Really enjoyed that. Makes me hopeful the BBC will pick up more of Montalbano ....some of the Italian series are excellent. Sure look fwd to The Killing II though. Enjoy
I watched the Danish version of this and it was very dark. Compulsive viewing. At the moment I'm watching the French Spiral series 1 - have already seen series 2.
And yes, Moltalbano was great and I loved the programme about Italian Noir, although most of the other books aren't available for the eReaders, sadly.
Agree and watched entire series with full enjoyment even though each episode is very long. Thank goodness we are spared ads on telly! Would love to see each again though with English subtitles. Fabulous atmosphere. Curious about Spirals.
I also checked out ebay, they have it for $104 and it's region 4 which won't play on a regular US DVD player.
I don't know Marilyn..I think with all the hoopla and the love of Nordic Noir going on right now...it is going to be released in a US format...I think I'll wait (actually I have to!)
I see that the last comment was one year ago...BUT....just have to say that The Killing 2 is now on Netflix in the US.
And Season 3 after being cancelled is BACK ON!! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01...
In production now! So excited!

I believe there's also a new US remake?
