This is fantastic. I've got a meeting at that time, though. Will this event be recorded for viewing later?
?Did you conceive The Baroque Trilogy while writing Cryptonomicon or following its completion? If you'd like to share, I'd love to hear how the Baroque Trilogy came about. I love the books and the character so much.s
q: I would also love to hear about the Cryptonomicon/Baroque Cycle Question (I believe it has something to do with the book, "Darwin Amongst the Machines"). I would also like to hear more about the main characters Eliza/Shaftoe brothers/Waterhouse/Root combination and how they relate (if at all) to any persons from history.
Since several people have asked, yes, this will be recorded and archived right here on this page shortly after the live chat is over.
I read The Diamond Age after snow crash, but Anathem really blew me away, and Cryptonomicon's fantastic as well
q What I want to know is, is that The Diamond Age miniseries/TV show ever happening? I certainly hope so because I think The Diamond Age (one of my favourite novels) would translate rather brilliantly to TV (not so much film, it needs more running time than a film can offer). Any word, Mr. Stephenson?
q With HBO's success with the big budget Game of Thrones series, any chance they might pick up something like The Baroque Cycle or Diamond Age and do it justice?
? What sparked your interest in currency and cryptography? Did your curiousity of these subject plant the seeds for your novels or did you become interested in these subjects as your wrote?
Neal Stephenson once expressed that the beginning of The Diamond Age served as an end to the cyberpunk period of his work, after having dedicated Snow Crash to the form. Nevertheless, I found the intro to The Diamond Age as one of the more enthralling aspects of his work so far. I wonder why he felt the need to close the book on cyberpunk so quickly after one book in the genre. Did he forsee it becoming passe soon thereafter (in 1996, as the Internet erupted into popular usage shortly after the fact)?
oh, my goodness, I probably won't make it, it'll be midnight here. I look forward to the recorded video.
There was an interview with Neal Stephenson recently on Forbes: http://www.forbes.com/sites/davidewal...
q : is there any chance we will ever see a Snow Crash film adaptation ? It was always one of my favorite books and I am hoping Reamde captures some of that same magic.
q It's hard to get as excited about a book's cover art as you would with, say, an album. Some of your earlier books in particular have quite striking covers. How much attention do you give to the cover, fonts etc your books get printed with? Does it even matter?
hey_ghis - I was referring to the final version of the books that end up on shelves in stores. A lot of musicians are known to pay a lot of attention to the artwork/packaging their albums come in, but generally speaking authors don't seem to be as concerned about how their work is presented. I find that curious.
q Following your thoughts on education (wikipedia taking over role of professors) from talk given almost exactly 3 years ago at google, I would like to ask if you have any ideas about "fixing" current education system and what has to be done in your opinion to leverage changes that have happened in last 20 years.
q There have been rumors and facts about proposed The Diamond Age TV-miniseries by George Clooney. Can you comment on whether this project is going to happen or not?
So looking forward to whenever Amazon delivers my copy of Reamde, can't believe they are saying I won't get it until next week :(
