message 11: by Rockets (new)

Rockets Redglare Damn, the book is $16.99 on my Kindle, most expensive I've ever seen, and I still may buy it. LoL

message 12: by Rockets (new)

Rockets Redglare q Anybody out there reading Ian McDonald?

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

This is fantastic. I've got a meeting at that time, though. Will this event be recorded for viewing later?

SubterraneanCatalyst I'm so excited! I can't even think of any questions..just compliments lol :)

Gurur Sarbanoglu Wow! This should be really good!

Joyce ?Did you conceive The Baroque Trilogy while writing Cryptonomicon or following its completion? If you'd like to share, I'd love to hear how the Baroque Trilogy came about. I love the books and the character so much.s

message 17: by Richard (new)

Richard Ward q: I would also love to hear about the Cryptonomicon/Baroque Cycle Question (I believe it has something to do with the book, "Darwin Amongst the Machines"). I would also like to hear more about the main characters Eliza/Shaftoe brothers/Waterhouse/Root combination and how they relate (if at all) to any persons from history.

Donna This is great, thank you to whomever set it up.

Michael Boyce very much looking forward to this

message 20: by Norman (new)

Norman Green I've only read snow crash. And deeply loved it.

Scott Book is great thus far. Started reading it last night.

message 22: by Patrick (new)

Patrick Brown Since several people have asked, yes, this will be recorded and archived right here on this page shortly after the live chat is over.

message 23: by Norman (new)

Norman Green what should I read next after Snow Crash -- and whatever you recomment, is it as good?

Richard Hundt I read The Diamond Age after snow crash, but Anathem really blew me away, and Cryptonomicon's fantastic as well

message 25: by Racquel (new)

Racquel q am I missing something here or is everyone sitting around looking at a blank screen?

message 26: by Patrick (new)

Patrick Brown The chat is tomorrow at 6 Eastern/3 Pacific, Racquel. It hasn't started yet.

Martin q What I want to know is, is that The Diamond Age miniseries/TV show ever happening? I certainly hope so because I think The Diamond Age (one of my favourite novels) would translate rather brilliantly to TV (not so much film, it needs more running time than a film can offer). Any word, Mr. Stephenson?

message 28: by teresa (new)

teresa i can't wait!!!!!

Ebook Download Can't wait.. go to bed now

message 30: by Ben (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ben q With HBO's success with the big budget Game of Thrones series, any chance they might pick up something like The Baroque Cycle or Diamond Age and do it justice?

message 31: by Margaret (new)

Margaret Shooshani ? What sparked your interest in currency and cryptography? Did your curiousity of these subject plant the seeds for your novels or did you become interested in these subjects as your wrote?

Jackson Neal Stephenson once expressed that the beginning of The Diamond Age served as an end to the cyberpunk period of his work, after having dedicated Snow Crash to the form. Nevertheless, I found the intro to The Diamond Age as one of the more enthralling aspects of his work so far. I wonder why he felt the need to close the book on cyberpunk so quickly after one book in the genre. Did he forsee it becoming passe soon thereafter (in 1996, as the Internet erupted into popular usage shortly after the fact)?

message 33: by Fabrizio (new)

Fabrizio oh, my goodness, I probably won't make it, it'll be midnight here. I look forward to the recorded video.

message 34: by Patrick (new)

Patrick Brown Jackson C: Yes, we'll have a recording up soon after the live chat is over.

message 35: by toxygen (new) - added it

toxygen There was an interview with Neal Stephenson recently on Forbes: http://www.forbes.com/sites/davidewal...

Jeffery Evans q What made you return to internet culture as a subject for your work?

message 37: by Aaron (new)

Aaron P. q : is there any chance we will ever see a Snow Crash film adaptation ? It was always one of my favorite books and I am hoping Reamde captures some of that same magic.

message 38: by Maria (new) - added it

Maria This guy is a god.

Philip q It's hard to get as excited about a book's cover art as you would with, say, an album. Some of your earlier books in particular have quite striking covers. How much attention do you give to the cover, fonts etc your books get printed with? Does it even matter?

DeAnna Knippling Yay! Recording! Wahhhh! Can't go!

DeAnna Knippling q Look, I just want to know when we're getting smart wheels.

DeAnna Knippling I am looking forward to reading Reamde soon :)

message 43: by Tommy (new)

Tommy Berkert How mutch time did you spend researching the Baroque Cycle?

Philip hey_ghis - I was referring to the final version of the books that end up on shelves in stores. A lot of musicians are known to pay a lot of attention to the artwork/packaging their albums come in, but generally speaking authors don't seem to be as concerned about how their work is presented. I find that curious.

message 45: by toxygen (new) - added it

toxygen q Following your thoughts on education (wikipedia taking over role of professors) from talk given almost exactly 3 years ago at google, I would like to ask if you have any ideas about "fixing" current education system and what has to be done in your opinion to leverage changes that have happened in last 20 years.

message 46: by toxygen (new) - added it

toxygen q There have been rumors and facts about proposed The Diamond Age TV-miniseries by George Clooney. Can you comment on whether this project is going to happen or not?

message 47: by Daniel (new)
