Serena Huang (marrykatebush) | 259 comments I like Denny's character a lot, I think mainly because he sort of finds his one way out even though he's quiet and most of the time, seems like a loser. Lol! I think he is closest to Ida Mancini's search for simplicity.
But why did he start building a stone castle?

Anda | 34 comments "To build a world out of rocks and chaos" Due to the metaphysical twist in the book, I see Denny as an Apostle of the crackpots :) He physically builds an alternate house/world according to his vision…and when the divine origin of Victor disappears, the house falls down!

Serena Huang (marrykatebush) | 259 comments Denny certainly is the Apostle of the crackpots, lol!
Funny thing is I just found this interview of Palahniuk and...
"These days when Palahniuk is not writing, he told me he is creating a "garden of ruins." It is outside the house he owns and shares with his friends in Portland. There he builds partial doorways, walls and windows, which from the dampness of Oregon quickly become covered in green moss. Palahniuk's garden, this odd hobby, is obviously a living metaphor of his life and work: it is a dreamscape of creation and destruction; a place where he can feel the romanticism that comes, as he hopes comes in his novels, after long bouts of violence and chaos."
