Joyce | 8 comments I'm just finishing up Stephenie Meyer's "Breaking Dawn". Frankly, I'm ambivalent, but that's just me.

What's everyone else reading in this group?

message 2: by Jewel (new)

Jewel (jewela) | 13 comments I'm reading A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. I loved The Kite Runner and so far, this book is just as good.

message 3: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (suzanneme) | 1 comments Jewel, A Thousand Splendid Suns is on my to read shelf. I've heard good things about it.
I'm reading In The Wood by Tana French. It took me a little while to get into it, but am really enjoying it now.

message 4: by Jewel (new)

Jewel (jewela) | 13 comments I'll have to check that one out:o)

message 5: by Cecily (new)

Cecily | 1 comments I'm reading Loyalty's Web by Joyce diPastena! So far so good...can't wait to get farther into it! (Which is why I'm writing this at 4 a.m. - not sure a book should be called "good" if it keeps you up at night...but that does seem to be a pretty good standard!)
I'm also re-reading a yet-to-be published novel by Liz Adair, called "Counting the Cost." It will be out in March.

message 6: by Jewel (new)

Jewel (jewela) | 13 comments Hey guys, I also just finished a great YA book by James Patterson called "The Dangerous Days of Daniel X." I didn't even know he wrote YA. It's the first book in the series.

message 7: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | 6 comments I'm starting Flashback, by J. Michael Hunter.

message 8: by Cathy (new)

Cathy | 2 comments James Patterson has also written a YA series called Maximum Ride, about kids with mutant powers that are hiding from the government. They can fly, read minds, etc. My thirteen year old loves it. Way cool stuff.

message 9: by Cathy (new)

Cathy | 2 comments I am reading Shannon Hale's Austinland. I am getting a kick out of it. I love her sense of humor.

message 10: by Jewel (new)

Jewel (jewela) | 13 comments Ooooh, I'll have to look for those. I love YA fantasy and science fiction:o)

message 11: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (millerm51570) | 1 comments I have been told to read books by the author Paige Lee Elliston.
Has anyone read her? I havn't found too many reviews on her - just starting "Changes of Heart"

message 12: by Lee (new)

Lee Brown | 1 comments I just finished Shadow Hunter by Guy Galli, and am moving onto FableHaven 4. My kids have liked the other 3 so this should be a fun read for the family.

message 13: by Tristi (new)

Tristi | 6 comments I'm not familiar with Paige Lee Elliston - be sure to tell us what you think!

message 14: by Karen (new)

Karen (tyrca) | 3 comments Yesterday at Deseret Book, I bought Liz Adair's Counting the Cost. I've read other books by her, and was actually thinking about writing an historical romance, so this looked interesting. Haven't started it yet, because I'm in the middle of 'I Don't Want to Kill You' by Dan Wells.

message 15: by Tristi (new)

Tristi | 6 comments I'm reading "The Star Prophecy" by Joan Sowards, and then "The Wishing Hour" by J. Adams.

message 16: by Heather (new)

Heather | 3 comments I'm reading Across Five Aprils by Irene Hunt, a YA Civil War novel.

message 17: by Tristi (new)

Tristi | 6 comments I loved that novel when I read it, Heather! Good choice.

message 18: by Mary (new)

Mary Walling (mlwalling85) | 29 comments I read Jewel's "The Wishing Hour". I loved it and I think you will to.

message 19: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Smith | 1 comments I just finished Taken by Storm by Angela Morrison and now I'm onto the sequel Unbroken Connection.

message 20: by Joan (new)

Joan Sowards (joansowards) | 3 comments I am reading LDS author Anna Arnett's "Lolly's Yarn."

message 21: by Kbrebes (new)

Kbrebes | 3 comments I'm reading THE EYRE AFFAIR by Jasper Fforde for LDS book club. It's got bad language, so I don't know how it got chosen! Character Thursday Next (yes, that's her name) is quirky, though.

message 22: by Danielle (last edited Jan 24, 2011 08:26AM) (new)

Danielle Thorne (daniellethorne) | 27 comments I do so much reviewing and editing I don't have a lot of time to read for fun. (Sad Face) But--the last novel I did read was Sabotage by Anne Patrick. I rarely read LDS fiction--I just happen to be LDS...and I write, review, and read CLEAN fiction from authors of all faiths.

I only read the first Stephanie Meyer book. I haven't been tempted to read the rest, not that she's not talented. I waited so long and there was so much hype, I think the bar was set too high.

message 24: by Mary (new)

Mary Walling (mlwalling85) | 29 comments Hello Danielle,
I am just finishing up your book "Josette". Then will finish "The Fourth Nephite" and would like to get started on "Defensive Tactics".

message 25: by Danielle (new)

Danielle Thorne (daniellethorne) | 27 comments Oh Mary. You're so kind. I hope you enjoyed it. It must be nice to have so much time to get all the reading done!

message 26: by Mary (new)

Mary Walling (mlwalling85) | 29 comments I'm finding I don't have as much time as I would like and I start too many books when I should only read one at a time and finish it before I start another. With my church work and watching grandchildren, they take up a lot of my time and that leaves late at night to read when all is quiet. But I do love reading and it has been fun getting back into the habit.

message 27: by Karen (new)

Karen | 1 comments I'm reading "The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate," by Jacqueline Kelly. Delightful voice in that book. I'm also reading "NYC: A Mission to Die For," by Lorraine Scott. So far, so good. It's a mystery in an LDS Senior Couple's mission setting. I'm also reading "Dewey," by Vicki Myron. It's a true story about a small town library cat.

I know, I'm the only one who reads more than one book at a time, right? ;)

message 28: by Mary (new)

Mary Walling (mlwalling85) | 29 comments Riiight!!! I am earnestly trying to finish "Josette" by Daniell Thorne by the end of the week then finish "The Fourth Nephite" by Jeffrey Savage. I would like to get started on "Defensive Tactics" by Steve Westover, but am also reading "The Infinite Atonement", "Alma the Younger" and The First Two Thousand Years". I also have a stack of books that I haven't even started and keep buying more to add to the collection. My shelves are full and so is my Kindle PC. Too many books, not enough time. :)

message 29: by Jennie (new)

Jennie | 13 comments Mary, you may not be getting enough time to read, but you're my favorite kind of people. I love people who read and especially ones like you who read both quality and quantity!

message 30: by Mary (new)

Mary Walling (mlwalling85) | 29 comments Thanks Jennie. I appreciate your comment. Right now I'm upstairs typing w/one hand, holding a grumpy 3 month old granddaughter in the other and trying to get the RS newsletter finished and wanting more than anything to put my feet up and read in peace and quiet!!! Won't happen until about 8 or 9 tonight.

Rebecca Talley | 19 comments Mod
I'm reading, "The Thorn," by Daron Fraley. Next up, "Bumpy Landings," by Don Carey and "Dearly Departed" by Tristi Pinkston. I really enjoyed, "Meg's Melody" by Kaylee Baldwin and "Growing Up Gracie" by Maggie Fechner. I need to update my books in this site, but with 7 kids still at home and trying to work on my own writing, I'm happy just to get to read.

message 32: by Jennie (new)

Jennie | 13 comments I enjoyed Meg's Melody too and I was impressed with the writing style in Growing Up Gracie, but disappointed that nothing ever really happened. I just got Dearly Departed yesterday, so had to put it at the bottom of my "to read" stack, but I am looking forward to reading it. Right now I'm reading The Rogue Shop and enjoying it.

message 33: by Julie (new)

Julie | 13 comments I've been doing so much Whitney reading, my eyes are anxious for some recreational reading. I recently bought Nancy Campbell Allen's Isabelle Webb The Pharoah's Daughter and I can't wait to jump into it. I love Nancy's writing and I am excited to see her continue with Isabelle's story.

I've heard good things about "The Rogue Shop" I need to read it. I also enjoyed "Luck of the Draw" by Rachael Anderson. I'd like to read "The Pharoah's Daughter." So many books out there I want to read and so little time.

message 35: by Jennie (new)

Jennie | 13 comments I waded through all of the instructions and finally managed to post one of my out-of-print books on Kindle. I used a photo I took several years ago for the cover. It took a long time to figure out all of the steps, but it looks great on Amazon's site. If anyone reads the Kindle version I'd love to hear what you think about it.

message 36: by Mary (new)

Mary Walling (mlwalling85) | 29 comments Jennie I read on Kindle all the time. What's the name of your book?

message 37: by Jennie (new)

Jennie | 13 comments Mary, sorry, I thought I included the title. It's Run Away Home.

message 38: by Mary (new)

Mary Walling (mlwalling85) | 29 comments Thanks Jennie. I will go to Amazon, my favorite place to purchase books and get a copy for my Kindle PC. I'll let you know what I think. :)

message 39: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Stone | 1 comments I am new to the group and I am currently reading for a book group is "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" by Jonathon Safron Foer. This will be a good group to help me find clean literature that isn't in just the juvenile collection. I love children's lit but I would like to read clean novels that the audience is meant to be adults.

message 40: by Heather (new)

Heather | 3 comments There's a website called www.ratedreads.com that lists a ton of clean books (they are not LDS fiction, although some books may be by LDS authors). There are tons of great authors who write clean fiction. You might check out Christian Fiction or LDS fiction, or look through Rated Reads if you have a question on something by a national publisher.

I think Tristi Pinkston and Heather Justesen both run blogs that review clean books.

message 41: by Michael (new)

Michael Knudsen | 1 comments I'm taking a short break from LDS books to get caught up on some of my favorite bestsellers. Finished Dean Koontz's What the Night Knows. Creepy as ever, bizarre ending. Now on to John Grisham's The Confession, which is shaping up like classic Grisham so far.

And may I just say that knowing Jennie Hansen is reading my book right now makes me nervous, but in a good way ;}

message 42: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | 6 comments I just finished reading Anne Perry's The Sheen on the Silk and am now reading Kiersten White's Paranormalcy.

message 43: by Jennie (new)

Jennie | 13 comments I finished The Rogue Shop last night and will write a review today. Don't worry, Michael, I was favorably impressed.

message 44: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | 6 comments I really enjoyed The Rogue Shop.

message 45: by Sonja (new)

Sonja Lee I am reading City Limits Book 3 in the Rhea Jensen Series by Sheralyn Pratt. I am really enjoying the series!

Sonja Lee Stephanie wrote: "I just finished reading Anne Perry's The Sheen on the Silk and am now reading Kiersten White's Paranormalcy."

I have heard that Paranormalcy is really good. I will look forward to seeing what you thought about it.

I read the first chapter of "Paranormalcy" at Amazon and really liked it. I've heard good things about it and that it's very clean. I plan to read it.

message 48: by Hollie (new)

Hollie Robb (hollierobb) | 6 comments I'm reading Matched by Ally Condie. I'm dying to know if Condie tells why Ky is an Aberration, do any of you know at all?

message 49: by Mary (new)

Mary Walling (mlwalling85) | 29 comments I just finished reading "Tears of Heaven" by Jewel Adams and have posted a review under My Books. I recommend this book to everyone.

Kbrebes | 3 comments Hollie wrote: "I'm reading Matched by Ally Condie. I'm dying to know if Condie tells why Ky is an Aberration, do any of you know at all?"

Hollie--Ky is an Abberation through no fault of his own; he is an Abberation because his father committed an infraction, so tells the official to Cassia on page 46. As you continue to read, pay close attention to the imagery in the notes Ky passes to Cassia, and you will figure out what Ky's father did. I have some notes from the book on my blog, asuccorforwriting@blogspot.com if you'd like to review them. Have fun. MATCHED is one of my favorite books!

I'm terrrible at building links, but I tried!
