I like how it's left to the reader to kind of decide what he is... There's a little too much vampire, werewolf and daemon out there.
KMM's next series is going to be about Dani, Dancer, and Ryo. Karen Marie says that we will find out what Barrons and his men are in them.
Shannon wrote: "Yes and no. We find out what he can do, but no name was really given as to what he is."I think that this goes along with the tone of the series. You know...judging someone for their actions now what family they come from or what they are...remember these quotes:
"When you know who I am. Let me be your man."
"What are you Barrons?”
“The one who will never let you die, and that’s more, Ms Lane, than anyone in your life has been able to say to you. More than anyone else can do"
"It's what you choose to believe that makes you the person you are."
"The wisest man is the silent one. Examine his actions. Judge him by them."
Mac also said at some point that she used to think her family loved her and she was pretty and that these two truths made her feel secure. But she has come to realize how fleeting the former is and unimportant the latter is....
I, like so many readers, spent the first four and a half books wondering who every one was. But honestly that is not what is important to this story. While we chased for answers for that question we quietly missed out on the real story....So you see....My whole point is that Mac decided that she didn't care what he was because that is not who defined him....rather his actions did. And if Mac didn't care....why should we?

I completely agree, if I never find out what exactly he is I think I would be ok with it. I just like him for who he is.

Well said!
Hmm, maybe I should go mirror shopping? You never kown, I could get lucky and find a sliver that would connect to Barrons'. My luck I'd be stuck in some odd ball fae realm with a flying monkey after me.

My theory is that Barrons is the human male who was imprisoned by a Fae princess, the one that is mentioned in the first book ... at least that's how I explained to myself in the beginning him killing that fae princess. Or some kind or warrior who got cursed along with his crew and his son and thus became immortal

He was a jerk most of the time and MISSED helping her several times - he only became "nice" in the LAST part of the LAST book!
go to her web site - she has 3 books for Dani's adventures (and she notes they are NOT YA) then she said she'd go back to Mac and Barrons for 2-3 books
Shannon wrote: "Yes and no. We find out what he can do, but no name was really given as to what he is."KMM doesn't ever state what type of mythological creature he is but that he is one. The closest I've been able to find is from Norse mythology. It's obvious that JZB and gang have all died at one point so I looked up corporeal ghosts. They're based on a creature called Draugr.
DEF:draugr being the animated body of the dead. As the graves of important men often contained a good amount of wealth, the draugr jealously guards his treasures, even after death.
JZB loves his treasures. In some instances, these creatures are shape shifters and can change color. Most are hard and impossible to kill, even burning them does not often work. They're most often night creatures, but can come out into the sun. They also like living in barrows, underneath heavy rock and stones.
What I'd love to read about is how they got cursed to become these types of creatures.

Love that you looked into that! That does seem to make alot of sense. I wonder if we will ever find out exactly what/who they are and their significance.
I love your discripton though!

Why thank you. Have you read any of the Highlander books? KMM had Adam create the berserker clan, again Norse mythology, in the early books. I wonder if Adam had a hand in cursing the 9 as well.

For those who don't get Barrons' appeal, I guess it's just one of those things. It's the fact that he can make love to you until your toes melt. The way he takes care of you, his power. The way he could be playful and fun (remember dancing in the nude?). His total independence. Even his inflexibility can have a kind of appeal at times; you know exactly what you can count on with that guy. Barrons is never going to sit around agonizing over whether he did the right thing.

do we ever find out in this series what Barrons is??
