Dee (austhokie) | 652 comments Since I drive between 1-2 hours to and frm work every day (and that is soon going to be increased to 2-3 hours) I love listening to audiobooks in the car. My first exposure to NN actually came through audiobooks when I picked up GWTDT during an audible sale and I was hooked.

Has anyone here listened to any NN in audio? What are your thoughts?

Martha (marthas48) I listened to all the Millenium books ... got them from audible. The narrator was wonderful as were the books. I drive about an hour a day. Books are on my phone now and I sometimes keep the book playing while I go in from the garage. :-)

Dee (austhokie) | 652 comments yeah, Simon Vance was great...based on his performance in those, I've actually bought books I normally wouldn't have bought because i knew he was a good narrator

Dick Hill has done the Wallander ones (at least the 2 that i've listened to and the 1 that I have), and I want to try Nesbo who has some out in audio

Martha (marthas48) I'm on the Audible Light membership now so am not buying books unless they are on that $4.95 sale. I get so far ahead and go to the light so I can catch up with what I've bought. :-)

Dee (austhokie) | 652 comments is that the one that is only 9.95 a year? i'm checking out booksfree right now - you pay a set fee a month and they send the CD's to you...and since I go through more than 2 books a month, it might work as well as audible

Martha (marthas48) Yes, I like that I can still take advantage of sales. I'll have to check out the other site.

Dee (austhokie) | 652 comments I added pretty much all the wallander audio books to my wishlist there - except for faceless killers; dogs of riga and the white lioness, because I have them already

Nidia (ninio) | 57 comments I listen to audiobooks during my daily walks - walking has not only become
more fun but I actually look forward to going out every day!

I listened Stieg Larsson's trilogy & some of Nesbo's Harry Hole series - I truly enjoyed every minute of those books and I think the narrators did wonderful job.

I've also listened to most of the Wallander series and really loved them!
Dick Hill did a wonderful job with all of the Mankell's books he narrated and I was truly disappointed with the choice of narrator for Before the Frost - it made think that Cassandra Campbell did not have the "feeling" for the characters and/or the story.
I am now listening The Troubled Man narrated by Robin Sachs and it's not bad but I think I still prefer Dick Hill.

Nawesa | 13 comments Okay, your conversations convinced me to try audiobooks, let's see how well I do with them. Thank you ladies.

Art | 57 comments I listened to the first Martin Beck novel on CD as I couldn't get the book itself at the library. It was okay- the biggest problem I had was when the man reading it would do the female voices it sort of sounded like a bad Monty Python skit or something and it sort of distracted me from the story. I used to listen to books on tape/CD a lot back in Wyoming when I was driving truck or spending all day and sometimes more in the tractor, but back then I mostly listened to history and nonfiction subjects, for pretty much the same reason. I will listen to lighter subjects when I'm doing stuff around the house now, but for my crime stories, I prefer to read them if I can.

Old Crow | 8 comments I am concurrently listening to and reading The Keeper of Lost Causes. The reader is pretty good. I listened to a few Jo Nesbo titles, as well. That was a great reader. Audible has a good selection of Nordic Noir books.

Art | 57 comments Being tired today I just figured one thing out while listening to a Martin Beck on CD on the computer- make sure the "shuffle" feature is shut off or you get that accidental "Pulp Fiction" effect :)

Ellen (elliearcher) lol!

Dee (austhokie) | 652 comments haha Art!

Anna (aetm) | 192 comments I've reserved the audiobook version of The Keeper of Lost Causes (as it was easier available than the printed book). I guess I'll have to see if I find anything else interesting as the temperatures out here in Texas are inviting for nice runs out.
