Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments I have an idea.

How about a live question and answer event with an author. I thought that we could find a victim... no.... author and at a pre arranged time and date I would open a thread, ask him/her some pre selected questions then open a live debate. What do you think?

Any author that would like to be our guinea pig?

Shaun (shaunjeffrey) | 2467 comments me. Me. I love being experimented on;)

message 3: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Yep, Good one; go with it.
How relevant would it be to people who hadn't read any of the author's work though? Steve is an obvious one but he's asked and answered a lot on his author thread and in the In The Blood discussions. Do we need to have a few more of our 'own' authors as group reads first?
('Our' authors - this group's like Royston Vasey - you'll never leave!)

Experimented on? I've read one of your books - it'll be with a scalpel, no doubt!

I'm guessing that even if you've not read an authors work, there still might be generic questions that people might like to ask. And other questions could be spurred during the event that are posed by the questions and answers being given.

Lol.

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments

MWHAHAHAHAHA ! Is there actually a thread where everyone's kept to a serious conversation?

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Yep
One.
The Georgette Heyer thread. Who is going to go in and remedy that serious oversight?

message 16: by Mhairi (new)

Mhairi Simpson (mhairisimpson) | 1158 comments I believe every thread goes over the edge pretty quickly. MUCH more fun than on-topic conversations :D

Surely there is more than one..............

probably not. What shall I go and add?

message 18: by Mhairi (new)

Mhairi Simpson (mhairisimpson) | 1158 comments Start talking about food. Or handbags. They're fairly popular themes.

Jay-me (Janet) | 3785 comments Food - not a good topic for me - I'm good at burning it.
Handbags - nope a carrier bag serves the same purpose & costs less :)
But I have an idea....

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Ah I've just figured it out. GH books don't have sex in them so Vanessa isn't interested... ;)

Careful Janet, talk like that will get you ostrichsized.

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments I think a live Q&A session would be interesting.Could I suggest posting the Author's name a couple of weeks in advance, then if like me you have them on your TBR list it would give you the opportunity to read their book before the session if you so wished.

D.D. Chant (DDChant) | 7663 comments Sounds like fun!

message 25: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Maybe we should do it with the members as well, maybe some of us would quite like their 5 minutes of fame too ...

Shaun (shaunjeffrey) | 2467 comments Lorraine wrote: "Maybe we should do it with the members as well, maybe some of us would quite like their 5 minutes of fame too ..."

Is this more budget cuts? I thought everyone was entitled to 15 minutes of fame ...

message 27: by Mhairi (new)

Mhairi Simpson (mhairisimpson) | 1158 comments Hahahahaha I think it would be nice to do a Q&A for readers too. Turn the spotlight on them for a change!

message 28: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Nah, was being my usual pessimist, don't think I'd have enough to say to cover 6 minutes lol !

message 29: by Steve (new)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments I think a Q&A with Vanessa would be very enlightening.

Too right, and I think it'd be totally hilarious !

message 31: by Mhairi (new)

Mhairi Simpson (mhairisimpson) | 1158 comments I have to agree with you there, Steve!

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments I would have to turn the over 18 flag on.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments maybe an over-25 flag needed...

message 34: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments Is there a flag for those of us who have led very sheltered lives? if not perhaps you should design one Simon.
Wouldn't do for any of us to go into a swoon!!!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Don't worry, Anita. If you do swoon, we're all here to catch you.

message 36: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments Thanks Patti, nice soft landing I hope.

message 37: by D.D. Chant (new)

D.D. Chant (DDChant) | 7663 comments Anita, what are you implying?

message 38: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments Patti said you would all be there to catch me, there must be quite a bit of padding between all of you, you wouldn't think of moving at the last momment would you D.d? no you wouldn't be that mean, would you?

message 39: by D.D. Chant (new)

D.D. Chant (DDChant) | 7663 comments Me? Move? As if!

message 40: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments I trust you D.d.

message 41: by Shaun (new)

Shaun (shaunjeffrey) | 2467 comments Was there any more thought on the live event?

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Sorry, Shaun. Between Simon's SAP stuff and my volunteer stuff, we've not discussed it this week. Hopefully we can sort it this weekend.

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments I am just bumping this for further consideration. Sorry, I have not been keeping up this week and it is getting harder to find the book related stuff in here these days
:(

message 44: by Lorraine (last edited Oct 11, 2011 12:07AM) (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments bump - Simon/Patti, do you need help with organising something? I know you're really busy, I can work something out with your help if you want :)

message 45: by Simon (Highwayman) (last edited Oct 11, 2011 12:14AM) (new)

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Morning Lorraine,

I completely forgot about this idea.

I love volunteers. At the moment I'm not sure what needs doing. You could drum up support and ideas for the live event.

I am also interested in ways
we can get new members more involved.

You are helping a huge amount by all your support and comments around the group Lorraine

message 46: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Awww Simon ♥ I'm more of a troublemaker though !

OK - we're open to ideas and suggestions. When, who, how...

Anyone's help is welcome :) Be warned, I'm gonna run that like a military operation !

x

Jay-me (Janet) | 3785 comments You just need to kidnap one of the authors and tie them down. I would think there would be several who should be willing to be the first victim. The rest of us can prepare questions to torture them with.
Smiley

message 48: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I think Darren or Shaun might enjoy it.

The tying down and torturing i mean not the question and answering but at least its a start ;o)

message 49: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments OK then - is there an author who'd be interested in being tied down and tortured then ?

message 50: by Shaun (new)

Shaun (shaunjeffrey) | 2467 comments Lorraine (thread bumper-payment in diamonds only) wrote: "OK then - is there an author who'd be interested in being tied down and tortured then ?"

Okay, that's the fun part. What happens after?
