Ami E. Bowen (skayda) | 19 comments It's a fairly recent book. I just forgot the name/author. I can recall most of it:

A girl moves away from her a-hole boyfriend and parents to the country to live with her relative; Aunt, I believe. She goes exploring one day while her Aunt is at work and comes across a farmhouse and a boy who lives there with his family. I think his name was Henry or George. But, everyone around the farm and the farmhouse seems like they're straight out of the 1930 or 40s or so. She finds out from her Aunt later that their used to be a farm near where she was walking but that the farmhouse burned down several years ago. The story is a love story between the boy from the past and the girl from the present/future.

Thank you!

message 3: by Ami (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ami E. Bowen (skayda) | 19 comments No, Martina, but thanks for replying! It was a YA novel that's about a couple of years old now with two teenagers, one from the past, (well, time stopped on his farm after his older brother was killed in the war), and a girl from the present/his future. I want to say "Out of Time" or "Timeless" or something like that but I'm not sure. Grr! I really need to write down the books I read to keep track of them. I can recall plots and details fine just not names of characters/titles/author names. lol.

Ami E. Bowen (skayda) | 19 comments Looking at The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger I see where you got the name Henry from. I still don't know if that's the right name for the boy in the book I'm thinking of but it was an old-fashioned name like that.

good luck :)

Cathy (lltoo) | 143 comments Caroline Cooney wrote a series of books with a similar premise but it's been so long since I've read them that I'm not sure they're what you're describing. Both Sides of Time, Out of Time, Prisoner of Time, For All Time.

Ami E. Bowen (skayda) | 19 comments Thanks, Martina! It was a really good book! Cathy, Sorry. Those weren't it either. It was just one book. Not part of a series. I've been googling things I recall from the book; teenage girl leaves abusive ex-boyfriend to live with Aunt in country/small town. Girl sees boy from past. Girl falls in love with boy from farm in a stable, (stopped), time loop. I'm beginning to think I just dreamed up the whole book! lol.

I think you may be mixing a couple books up. Running Out of Time has some elements of what you're saying, but is coming from sort of the other directions. Girl goes from "past" to future. And I believe there were others in the series, but I'm not positive.

Could you be combining in your head that with another book?

Ami E. Bowen (skayda) | 19 comments It's possible I mixed them up but I really don't think so.. Also, if it helps I remember that it had one-word title. I can remember pretty precisely reading this book and what happens. The plot is pretty straightforward with the girl leaving the city to live in a trailer with her aunt to get away from an abusive relationship in the city, on the first day she wanders into the back yard and through the woods and comes upon a farmhouse and a farm that looks like it's stuck in the 1930s or so. The boy she meets there has a mother who's always sick and taking pills and a father who keeps the farm running with the boy's help. The boy also has an older brother who's away during the war but.....and so sorry for any spoilers but I really want to recall this title so I've giving more info that I can....it turns out that he actually died in the war and the grief around the family has put a kind of spell on the farm/house and land around it to stop it in time right before the letter arrives telling them that their oldest son/brother has been killed in the line of duty, etc. Sorry if I'm repeating myself here but I wanted to get all the plot of the book out in order so maybe someone who's read it will recognize something.

Ami E. Bowen (skayda) | 19 comments Also here's a bit more that recall from the book: One night the boy's family, after getting to know the main character, invites her over for dinner and the mother ends up giving her one of her dresses to wear since she doesn't think that the main character's jeans are ladylike and obviously in her time women and girls wore skirts/dresses, and she, the MC ends up wearing the dress home and her aunt wonders where she got it from.

Ami E. Bowen (skayda) | 19 comments Oh! And every day on the boy's family's farm is the same as the one before. It's caught in a "Groundhog Day" type time loop if I forgot to mention.

Ami E. Bowen (skayda) | 19 comments YES! YES! YES!!! Thank you so much, Cathy! That's it exactly!! ^_^ You know, I should have remembered that the main character shared my first name, (different spelling), AND moved to the same state I live in. lol.
And I remembered Henry's name right though. lol. I seriously need to make and keep a list of book titles/authors and plot summaries of all the books I've read so I don't forget them!

Thanks everyone else for helping to try and find the right book!

^_^

Ami E. Bowen (skayda) | 19 comments So how do we make this thread so it's under "Solved"?

message 15: by Lisa (last edited Sep 23, 2011 05:52PM) (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1396 comments Ami,

I'd do it this time. Go up to the topic title: 35 views
UNSOLVED > Girl From The Present Meets Boy From Past On Time-Stopped Farm (edit)

And, where it says (edit) click on that, change the folder, click save, and then ideally shelve the book or a moderator/other member will shelve it for you. In the about box, include the URL of the thread.

But, I'm happy to do it this time.

Oh, and if you shelve the book put an [s] at the end of the topic title. Thanks!

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1396 comments Ami, There are some instructions in the threads in the general folder up on top, so you don't have to remember; you can look up the info. Or, the mods are happy to do this if they notice it needs doing. Thanks!
