My mom likes animals and it is very important to her because it is like a friend and a family to her that you can play and snuggle with. You can also sleep with them and pet them to make them feel at home. My Mom thinks that pets makes her go back in time of her childhood...reminds her of everything back then. It's like a friend to her, she sometimes tell them her secrets and giggle with them when no one's around to hear what she has to say or what she feels on the insdie. They're like her little dairy. They also keeps her company when she has no one to be with.

I love the part about them keeping secrets! Did she have one pet that was particularly special to her?

I asked my brother what object he likes and he said his old bracelet. In second grade he got a bracelet with my mom and they saw my friends mom after. My friend's mom tied the bracelet onto my brothers wrist. After that moment, my brother wore that bracelet for four straight years He likes that bracelet, because it reminds him of the moment he got it and when he was with my mom, and when my friend's mom tied it on him. He doesn't have that bracelet anymore, but he will always love it. That is the object my brother likes.
For my homework I chose to interview my grandmother. My grandma's object she picked was a diamond, gold heart neckles. My grandmother adores that neckles and cherishes it. She says it's absilutly gorgus and 100% real. She picked this neckless because it was the first piece of jewelry my grandfather gave her after they married. My grandmother said she wore it every where and she recently gave it to my mother for her to keep and then my mother will most probably give it to me or my sister and so on.
I interviewed my father. My fathers item was a toy playset which depicted the battle of the Alamo. He enjoyed the look and the large amount of playtime it gave to him. He chose the playset because he believed it changed his life into loving history more then he did before. The playset was given to him for his eleventh birthday. The playset was donated when he no longer needed it, due to the problems of adolesence, which makes no one like anything thats not girls.
I asked my mother what was close to her and she responded and said a teddy bear. Interview...Me: What did the teddy bear look like?
Karin(mother): It was white. With black eyes, it wasn't very big.
Me: Was there something different about this bear that made you love it so much?
Karin: I got it Valentines day.
Me: YEOO you got it Valentines day? Who gave it to you?
Karin: John, it was our first valentines day together.
Me: AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
Karin: Hahaha
Me:Was the bear a guy or a girl?
Karin: Male. His name was Soldier Boy.
(John was a Solider)
Me: When you looked into Soldier Boys eyes did you think of John.
Karin: Yes because he went into the army shortly after. I felt like he was always with me when he wasn't.
Me: (Fakes wiping tears) Is there anything else that you would like to say about that very special teddy?
Karin: Just that hes been in storage since John died.
Me:(Gets up and hugs mom)
I interviewed my sister, Liliko, and she said that the most important object to her is her "marriage ring" from camp. It had a green gem on it, the same green as an evergreen tree. It was cheap because every time you put it on, your finger would turn green! It smelled of the camp, full of fresh air.
Liliko got this ring because every year she goes to her camp, there is a carnival that has many booths and fun games. One of the booths were where you had to "marry" someone, just for fun! It could be a girl OR a boy.
So, she "married" her best camp friend, Sarah Rockhill, and they each received a ring (which they individually picked out).
It is so memorable to her because she doesn't go to the camp anymore and therefore can't see her best friend Sarah.
This is what my sister's most important object is.

I interviewed my mom. Her object was a diamond necklace. It's a precious diamond. that's platinum gold. She was given this necklace as a present after enduring surgery, that included 6 months of chemotherapy. Its her good luck necklace because now she has good health since she has had it. It is important because it is now 12 years later, and she can now proudly state that she is a true survivor.
I interviewed my dad, which was hard because he usually never opens up about his childhood so, this was actually hard to get. So, when interviewed my dad he said that it was a bike he had when he was 7 years old. A bike to him was a big thing, because his family was very poor at the time so having enough for a bike was huge for him. He used his bike after school all the time. The bike came with training wheels and usually when your starting to use a bike, its a good thing, but not for him. He was learning how to use the bike one day, and since the ground was cracked and had spike coming out, and he got stuck on one of the spikes. His training wheel was stuck on one of the spikes and was falling off balance, he tried to position his way , so that way he wouldn't fall, but instead, he fell all the way down the hill he was riding. From that day forward, he learned the "hard" way, riding a bike on a two wheeler, and surprisingly he didn't fall while riding the two wheeler.
I interviewed my dad and the object that is important to him is his dad's gold ring. It was important to him because it belonged to his father. His father bought that ring when my dad was born in Italy. His father only wore it on special occasions, like weddings, anniversaries and gatherings. He gave it to my dad as a remembrance of him.
I asked my mom what item of her's was very memorable and important , and she said it was her dads watch.Me: What did the watch look like?
Mom: It is gold with roman numeral numbers and a white face
Me: What do you remember about it that makes it so special?
Mom: I remember my father always wearing it, and when we held hands when I was a little girl, I could feel its cold metal on my skin
Me: Have you used it throughout the years?
Mom: Yes, I have worn it for every important test I have taken, and I have had it with me for every important event in my life
Me: How did you obtain the watch?
Mom: He gave it to me when I graduated college and I've kept it ever since
Me: Why is it so important to you?
Mom: When I look at it, it reminds me of my childhood and my relationship with my father, I was always "Daddy's little girl"
When my father was young, he, like many kids, didn't really understand how things worked--he just knew what appealed to his eyes and what was considered "cool" in his suburban neighborhood, Oakford, Pennsylvania.
Growing up in a time when many parents were far more lax in rules and regulations, he was often out in the neighborhood, hanging with the boys. One person in particular impressed the young Wayne Flagg. He was the fastest bike rider in the neighborhood, flying down Cherry Avenue on his red Schwinn. Although the bike's aesthetic was nothing spectacular, knowing that this was the fastest bike in the neighborhood made my father envious. He didn't want a new bike--he wanted the fastest bike. Unfortunately, what lil' Wayne didn't realize was that the speed of the ride has more to do with the strength of the rider, not the bike itself. Therefore, he imagined himself climbing onto the bike, soaring through the neighborhood at super speed! He would be a hero among the kids in his neighborhood!
One Christmas morning (he claims he can't remember the exact year), he discovered that Santa had left him the used red Schwinn! Christmas bliss! While many kids would be disappointed by a used bike, my father was ecstatic! His dream was about to come true!
Like many kids eager to try out their new toys, my father rushed outside, eager to claim his spot as the fastest rider in Oakford. Unfortunately for Wayne, he became confused when he didn't fly down the Cherry Avenue hill with the same gusto as the previous owner. He rode up and down the hill, and as his little legs became more and more tired, his new ride became slower and slower.
Regardless of his initial disappointment, he still worshiped his new vehicle and strived to discover the secret of its speed. To this day, he's still trying to figure it out!

I interviewed my dad. My dad's object was a Star Trek model kit he put together himself. It had a phaser, communicator and a tricorder. He and his friends would "play Star Trek." They would all chose character to be and act out scenes from episodes. He bought it in 3rd or 4th grade, using his saved allowance at the Cross County Shopping Center in Yonkers. It was important to him because Star Trek was on at 7:00 every night on channel 11 and the Star Trek cartoon was on saturday mornings. He said Star Trek helped him relate to his friends and make new ones as well.
I interveiwed my mom. She told me that the most important object to her was her watch, it's slim and black with gold hands. She still gets complimented on it almost every day even though its over 15 years old. She told me that my dad got it for her when he had just started earning a lot of money in his buisness, as kind of a celebration. It was also their anniversary. They went to the watch store, and both fell in love with the same slim, black watch! My dad bought it for my mom AND himself so they both had beautiful matching watches! They cost $900 each. This was the most expensive thing my mom had ever had in her life. To this day, my mom AND dad still wear their watches almost every single day and they both still love it! They will also both go to any legnths to fix it if it's broken because they love it so much! For example, my mom's watch broke once so she sent it all the way back to Switzerland to get it fixed (which took about 6 months!) As the years have gone on, the price for the watch has gotten higher. WAY higher. The price now would be over $3,000!!!!
I interviewed my mom. When she was a little kid she didn't have much to play with. So whenever she got stressed she would get a seashell and listen to the ocean. It calmed her down. She didn't have a specific one. She thought all of them were beautiful. It still clans her down.
I interviewed my mom. My mom's object was a Curious George stuffed monkey she had when she was three. My mother said he made her feel safe and secure. Also she said he found him attractive and he was her best friend. They would share secrets and feelings. Then they would watch Curious George cartoons. My mother then went on to say she got the monkey for her parents. The name of the store it was bought from is A&S. The monkey, for her, was love at first sight. Unfortunately Curious George passed on after three years but always made her feel special in her early childhood.
I interviewed my mom, Nancy. Her most important object was this teddy bear. Her mom gave it to her when she was really little. My mom had a lot of teddy bear, but this one was special because her mom made it for her. When your squeezed the hand it would say I LOVE YOU!!! It was also very special because my mom hasn't seen her mom for nine years. Her mom was very sick and didn't see her very often. Every time my mom sees the teddy bear, it will remind her of all the happy memories they had together.
I also interviewed my mom. She told me about that her favorite item was a small gold ring that had her initials on it. It was important to her because it was her very first ring. She said that she always wore it on her right hand so she always felt for her ring when she had to tell which is left or right, she always knew that her right, was the hand with her ring on it. My mom her ring have been through a lot. First, when she was 11 she was swimming in a murky, dark lake with her sister for so long that there lips started to turn blue. When her mom (my grandma) told them to get out of the water, they didn't listen and then a few minutes later, when they finally came out, my mom realized she had lost the ring in the lake. Right away, her dad (my grandpa) borrowed a pair of goggles and jumped into the lake scooping up handfuls of sand to check for the ring. In the end, they found the ring and my mother was very happy! Next, in collage, (my mother still had her ring)she lent her ring to a friend who was begging to wear it and promised she wouldnt lose it. A few hours later when my mom walked into a bathroom she saw a bunch of people gathered around a sink, one of them, with a wrench. While her friend was washing her hands, the ring had slipped off and went down the drain. Once again, in the end, the ring was found and back onto my mom's hand. Years and years later, when I was about 9 years old, my mom put that ring on my finger. That small gold ring does not fit me anymore, but it holds tons of memories and my mother and I believe that the ring was never meant to be lost forever, there is a reason it is still here, sitting in a box in my mom's closet.
I interviewed my mom, Jackie. Her favorite object is her Mother Child Sculpture that sits on a shelf in our living room. She loves her Mother Child Sculpture because her mother gave it to her. Jackie got it when I was born. She thinks it symbolizes our relationship. The sculpture is made out of grey marble. It has two faces on it. One is the mother and the other one is the child. In my opinion, I think the child is sleeping on the mother's arm. The mother holds her hand under the child, like she's holding it (the child). I understand why my mom loves this sculpture because it means something to her. When she looks at she thinks of her daughter and her mother.
I interviewed my mom and she said that the object that is most important to her is the green jade bracelet that she always wears. Apparently she said that it was from china and that they gave good luck. My mom says that this was a gift from a relative who gave it to her as a "friendship" gift. This bracelet is so important because she started wearing this specific one when we moved into our new home and said that she wanted to bring good luck into our home. It was also a tradition that was started into out family. For instance when my parents got married their parents gave this gifts to show that they approved or that they give their blessing and hoped that they would have a happy life together and to their families..
My mother's favorite object is her camera. It's her favorite object because she can take pictures and save memories. She got her first 35 mm film camera when she was in high school because she was interested in fine art photography. When my Mother got a camera it allowed her to take good pictures. Having a good quality camera made her become more interested in fine art photography. She even went to a college to study photography. Later my Mother upgraded to a digital 35 mm camera so she can take even more pictures then she would have been able to before. Her first camera her father bought for her as a gift. Her digital 35 mm camera she bought for herself. Now i can look back at pictures and see and remember memories.
I interviewed my dad and he said the most important thing to him is his old family photo from when he was a kid. He said it reminded him of the time he stuck his vast head inside a gate trying to reach for on of his McDonalds toys. He also said that it made him remember the smell of his mom always cooking. It reminded him of the sweet smell. My dad got it at his graduation from the 5th grade.
Interview of My Mom About Her Art Journal My mom does artwork in a large spiral-bound book that she bought at the end of last year. The book has large pages of rough, watercolor paper. She loves to write and make art in it to remember her day. Before she writes in it, she designs different backgrounds. Mostly, she paints the backgrounds, but sometimes she collages lightweight papers like colorful tissue paper, or an interesting napkin. She writes on top of these with either a black marker or a silver marker. My mom chooses which marker to use based on what will show up on the background.
For New Year’s Day, my mom painted the background pink. She colored a stamp of a circus tent in orange, purple, and red, and stamped it on the page. We went to the circus that day, so that’s why she used an image of the circus. She collaged pictures of my brother and me onto the page from under the real tent of the circus, and a ticket to the show, plus an image of the Grandma clown. My mom used other pictures as reminders of pieces of the day, and she painted an orange border around the whole thing. She drew small snowflakes and painted some white dots on the border. You can’t smell the paint anymore from that day, but she painted a little today on later pages in her journal and you can still smell the paint and glue from that. She has painted many pages in between January 1 and today. On one, she put down a bunch of string and spray painted over it in different colors. She has four little bottles of spray paint. One is a beautiful blue like the part of the sunset over the orange. Another is orange. The third and forth paints are a blood red and a lettuce green. The spray paint comes out speckled and the place underneath the string looks like a chrysanthemum. Sometimes she starts pages, but has to wait to finish them later. When she is drying pages, she puts waxed paper under the painted pages. When the wind blows, you can hear the wax pages crinkling. That is a very gentle noise.
My mom says she wishes she could write and paint everyday, but some days there is no time to do it. She says that when she is painting or doing other art on her pages, she can think without words. My mom says that when she is working in her art journal, she feels like her lungs are filled with the purest air and she can float.
My mothers most important thing was her ring that she got from her Quinceanera (Sweet fifteen). This was one of her most important thiing in her life because it reminded her of when she was in her teens in which she fell in love with my dad. Her ring glimmered like the stars at night with the gold along with the unforgettable sparkles of the Emeralds and Diamonds as if it was a constlelation of green and white beautiful stars in the perfect night sky. She would always wear the ring until this day she still has it and still has a special place for it in her heart.
I interviewed my friend about something very special to her.She said her yellow baby blanket. I asked her a few questions about it.
My friend said that she likes it a lot because she had it since she was a baby and that she got it from her uncle who passed away. She said that it was a bright yellow color but it is old and worn out so it had a dim yellow haze. it has crescent moons that remind her of big smiles. Her blanket was soft and fluffy and made her feel like she was sleeping with clouds. She said that when she was with her blanket she felt like a baby again and that she was free and that she wasn't afraid to be herself. It made her feel comfortable in her own skin.

You will be responsible for asking questions that result in strong descriptive language. Don't let someone get away with telling you something like, "My blanket was blue and soft"--ask them to use explicit details!
Also, make sure to find out the HISTORY of the object (how he/she got it) and WHY it is/was so important to him/her.
You DO NOT need to post this in interview/transcript form. Rather, the purpose of this assignment is for you to work on developing your sensory/descriptive language while also practicing your LISTENING skills.
