Discuss the book. Something like this: I'm 1/12th of the way through this one. The heavy-handed foreshadowing or foretelling at the beginning sort of bored me.

I'm wondering how old the girl is, too, because it makes her sound like she's twelve or something. Does anyone know?

Brad Creamer | 43 comments i am 0/0ths of the way through this one. but i bet its about a girl name rebecca!

Library Lady 📚 | 141 comments Mod
actually, they haven't told the girl's name yet. Rebecca is already dead when the book starts.
so :PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP

Brad Creamer | 43 comments now you gone and ruined it for me! :PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP

Right now it's a lot like Jane Eyre i think. Big grumpy old man, little timid girl. Jane Eyre was kind of kick-ass, though, and so far the girl in this is just kind of lame. And Mr. de Winter...um, not a fan of his. Maybe it will get better. So far, he's a selfish brute, aka romance-novel stereotype. I keep wondering if he really has rebecca up in the attic, lol.

At least the girl is self-aware enough to realize that Mr. Winter 'loves her exactly like a dog.'

Are you wondering why i always call her 'the girl'? It's because they never tell her name! Or age! It's annoying!!!!

It annoys me that the author intentionally withholds the name & age of the protag. It's annoying!

Liz Hillbrand | 25 comments The girl in this book is constantly whining about how young and inexperienced she is, and comparing herself to rebecca and thinking everyone else is too, even though she's never met rebecca.

Mr. de Winter is a neglectful, selfish husband! That's why she's so insecure all the time. He never spends time with her and she's too afraid of him getting mad to even talk to him. She just wanders around alone all the time.

I wish someone else was reading this book so we could discuss! Halfway through it got good. Now i'm close to the end after the 'shocking' twist, and it's okay. i think the twist came too early, and then it drags a little afterwards. i have 1/6 left to go.

Rose Hillbrand | 54 comments Lena - now you get why I said everyone should read the same book at the same time!! :-)

I am at the very very beginning, but so far the writing is awesome, so that even though almost nothing has happened yet I am still sucked in! But yes, thanks for clarifying that it DOESN'T tell the girl's name or age - I too was wondering this, and when it would actually get around to telling you....

Yeah, Elana is reading it right now, and Brad, too. Elana is really annoyed that they don't tell the girl's name. I just sort of used Daphne in my head, since that's the author's name. Then Elana said maybe it was semi-autobiographical, which was an interesting idea. But then, what novel isn't? :)

Ellen | 16 comments Is The Superiors semi-autobiographical? If so, I am scared of your life. :)

Library Lady 📚 | 141 comments Mod
You mean scared FOR my life? lol

Rose Hillbrand | 54 comments No I think she really means scared OF. :-)
