Susanne, it's all yours!

Susanne Clower (clowersusanne) We will be meeting on Tuesday, October 11 at 7PM at the restaurant Aerin's at City Hall. Please RSVP so we can get the appropriate sized table. I think after that I could host the group at my building - I can reserve a group space on the 34th floor sky garden. Or depending on how things go, maybe I'll be hosting you on the void deck!

Susanne Clower (clowersusanne) There are plenty of copies of the book at the National Library. You may have to place a hold to have the copy sent to your most convenient location.

Susanne Clower (clowersusanne) I will be posting the info for the next meeting. So if you cannot make the first meeting, no problem, I'll post info about the next one.

I would definitely have liked to turn up too.

I would particularly love to hear what people's take on the book was. I've had a discussion on the book where there was a lively debate on the narrator's reliability as to his actual importance as an artist, and whether it was all just in his own mind.

Susanne Clower (clowersusanne) One thing I love about this author is his unreliable narrators. The first book I read by him was The Remains of the Day. I just re-read it in preparation for re-reading An Artist of the Floating World. I love how you gradually come to realize that the narrator is delusional. It is subtle, and it makes the reader do some work.

Thank you for the invitation, but I wouldn't be able to make it for the first meeting as I have to teach on Tuesday. Please do keep me in the loop for meetings I would love to join!

Have fun!

Susanne Clower (clowersusanne) I will definitely post information about the next meeting, but I won't know about the date and time and location until we meet on October 11. For sure, the next meeting will be in mid-November (it may be scheduled around American Thanksgiving.) What I mean by that is that it will not be scheduled during the week of American Thanksgiving, which this year is November 24. Which is also my birthday!

Unfortunately I can't make it that night, but let me know when the next meeting is on.

Kind regards, Marita.
