Shari*LoveMiKindle* I'm looking to upgrade to a Touch but I'm not sure about whether or not I need the 3G. Any help out there?

Yeah Shari, like Candy says it really does depend on how much access you have to Wifi in places you normally go, like your home or work. If you don't have them there, or if you travel quite a lot, it might be worth it to bump up to the 3G.

These links will make it easy for a side by side comparison:
Kindle Touch Wifi
Kindle Touch 3G

Are you someone who reads much away from home?

Shari*LoveMiKindle* I read everywhere...well, not while I'm driving of course! :) I do live out of the city so I'm guessing that the 3G option would be better for me. Thanks!

lol reading and driving don't go together. I hope you find something that works for you! :)

Shaina (shainaeg) | 18 comments Part of it depends on how much syncing you need done. I switch between my kindle and other devices during the day every day. Having wifi at home means that buying books over wifi shouldn't be a problem, but if you rely on it to sync everywhere 3G is pretty necessary.

Jan (libraryhag) Don't know if this matters or not, but library books will not load over 3G only Wi-Fi. My sister has a K3 3g and she has to load the book to her desktop and then connect via the usb to move it to her Kindle. She says it is no big deal though. She does not have wi-fi at home. If she did she could just turn off the 3G and use the wi-fi.

Shari*LoveMiKindle* I'm not sure I have a good WiFi connection here at home since I live in the Boonies. I decided to get the Touch with both just in case. I've been downloading library books to my computer for my K2 and it's not that difficult. The WiFi would make it simpler if it works for me at home. Thanks for everyone's comments!

I read everywhere too Shari even driving. Actually I listen to audiobooks. Thats why I love Amazon, my Audible is linked w/my kindle account.

Ann (annrumsey) | 31 comments Angela: Like you, I love my audio books! I can't load audible.com audios wirelessly to my K2, so with the new Fire being able to do that would be a plus. Of course now that I have seen how easy it is to load a library book to my Kindle with the USB connection, I suppose I could do an audio from my audible.com account too. ;) (I agree with your sister on the ease of doing it, Jan!)
My current audio is great; Rules of Civility is like dropping into NYC in the late 1930's.

I'm so thankful for my Audible account! I love to read wherever I'm at and since I can't physically read while I'm working, I listen to Audiobooks during the day while I'm there. I am usually reading 3-4 books at a time...1 on Audible, and 2-3 books on my Kindle. I love that Kindle allows you to read multiple books and saves the place for each one!

I think it really depends on your provider Shari. I live out in the middle of nowhere too, and have wi-fi at home for 3 years and never once had a problem with the connection (except of course when our power is out).

Monica (nutz4reading) | 55 comments I don't know if I should ask this here but I am going to ask it.

I have the kindle app on my iPhone and computer. I received a book from an author and was able to download it onto my kindle app on the computer. Since I have done this any new books that I purchase do not show up on my iPhone. They will show up on my PC Kindle app. The book did not show up on my iPhone when I downloaded it to the computer.

Does any one know why this would occur?

I actually tried to sort that out back when I was just using my iPhone too. You really can't get books onto the Kindle app for your iPhone unless you purchase them. I tried everything and it was a lost cause. You'll have to either read on Kindle for PC or purchase the book from the Kindle Store.

I'll say that there is a HUGE difference between reading on an iPhone and reading on a Kindle. Yeah, you can see the words on an iPhone, but really the experience on a Kindle is so much better. And now that they are only $79 Dollars, there really isn't much standing in the way.

Monica (nutz4reading) | 55 comments Okay so I won't get that book on my iPhone. I just want to know how come none of the books I am now purchasing are only showing up on my computer and not my iPhone? It always tells me that synchronziing faliled on my iPhone.

I know readaing on an iPhone the screen is small but I am still leaning towards purchasing a tablet. Just haven't decided on which one yet. Plus I like to actually feel the product in my hand before purchasing.

I don't read many ebooks as it is. I sitll prefer the book in my hand. The reason I am leaning towards a tablet is because I have seen many different varieties and there is so much more on them that I would like to what a Kindle has.

The only thing standing in my way is finances. I live pay check to pay check and don't have extra money to spend right now.

Hmm, I'm not sure why a book that you bought wouldn't sync to your iPhone. Maybe that's something you could contact customer service about.

I understand what you mean about not having a ton of extra cash. When it comes to tablets, I really don't think you're going to find a better bargain than $199 for the Kindle Fire.

Monica (nutz4reading) | 55 comments Thanks Jennifer. I will try a few things tonight to see if that will help. I am afraid to spend on a new tablet. I figure I will wait a while to see how the Kindle Fire is.

I know someone that has a Cruz tablet and he loves it. That is one I am leaning towards.

Monica, when you purchase your next book from Amazon check what the "Deliver To" destination is. You should be able to change it to your iPhone. Also, within the app you should be able to download the books from the "Archived Items" list.

message 18: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) | 55 comments It is set up to deliver to my iPhone. That is the only place I had the kindle app originally.

I finally fixed the problem. It turned out that the last time I had up dated all my apps that the kindle app didn't upgrade. I had to do the upgrade from my computer. So now all the books I had ordered finally showed up on my iPhone.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Glad you got it straightened out, Monica!

Ann (annrumsey) | 31 comments Just ordered the Fire, so now I need to decide what to do with my cell phone, a Blackberry that can't accept the Kindle app :( I love my Blackberry (or did anyway before the outage last week...) but will need a phone that allows for a mobile hotspot for WiFi to use at work as the Fire won't work on an Enterprise wireless network. Half the fun will be taking the Fire 'on the road' with me.

Congrats, Ann! Hope you love it. Yeah, I used to have a Blackberry a long time ago. That's pretty clever to have a phone capable of broadcasting a wireless signal so you can use your Fire everywhere. Out of the phones I'm familiar with, I know the HTC Evo is good at that. Have you checked out that phone?

message 22: by Ann (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 31 comments Jennifer - I have looked at the Evo! I need to see what other Blackberry converts have gone to and see what they think before I make the plunge... And to convince my cell phone carrier I need an early upgrade credit! ;)

Yeah, I'm the same way. I would use 3G maybe 5% of the time, and it's those times when I really wish I had it, but I can generally live without.

That is true, you need to add it to your computer first and then load by USB port, however this is actually a good thing. The file itself doesn't delete automatically so if your library loan ends and you haven't finished the book you can reload it and it stays on your Kindle.
