I agree. He's a nut case. Somehow he rationalizes his stealing as "getting books for free". Wow. It's something how the mind can work stuff out like that. Scary part is, we probably ALL do it to one degree or another. And, no Annie, I don't think you have to wait until you're finished with the book to make comments. I think it's best to comment while it's on your mind, right?
This Sanders guy is a little odd... he's actually more than odd, but everyone in this book seems to be a little off! But he sounds very passionate about what he does, but it seems to sometimes come out wrong - like he takes himself VERY seriously, but you know, I guess you have to! When you're not only talking about your passion but your lively-hood, things get personal quickly and I think a good point was being made when that one bookseller made the comment that he/she (I can't remember exactly who it was) was worried that he was going to be glorified or revered as a book expert when he was just a nut case who was stealing from business owners and justifying it! I was flabbergasted many times throughout this book by Gilkey's flippant behavior towards the books he 'got' (stole)! Just goes to show you that people really can be as insane as you might think! It crosses the line with books though... there's no excuse. These collectors are literally preserving history and time! And Gilkey is - well, you read the book!
