Hello! I have a suggestion for an alternate book for November. I think it has worked out well to have a couple options to choose from because what might be one persons cup of tea might not be for others!
I am currently just over half-way through "Outlander" - November's book - and while it is a compelling read, it is very long and some of the content might not set well with everyone.
I propose, as an alternative book, "The Little Women Letters." I sounds like a good read and completely different than "Outlander." That way, a person like me, who is in the middle of one book and beginning the other one, can participate in both discussions while those who chose to, could just skip one all together! Any thoughts?

Charmaine (wistad) I really want to read The Little Women Letters so I'm "in" if you'll do that one in Nov. I will try to find a copy while in Duluth today - unless I can get a library copy.

P.S. I can discuss the first 1/2 of Outlander because that's as far as I went with that book.

Charmaine (wistad) FYI, Annie - they have The Little Women Letters in Hayward, Washburn & Superior libraries. So I just requested a copy.

I actually grabbed the copy from Hayward last night so I am going to read it either way. I just talked to Anne on the phone and she said that she has some ideas/suggestions too! I'm anxious to see what we all come up with - either way, I'm reading The Little Women Letters. I'm going to go check my to-read wall and see what else I think might be a good group book :)

Another book I REALLY think sounds interesting, is "The Tenderness of Wolves" by Stef Penney. Look it up on here and tell me what you think.

Charmaine (wistad) I personally am not one much for "thrillers" so not sure I would read The Tenderness of Wolves.

Sure thing... I suppose that might not be everyone's cup-o-tea :) I'll keep looking but I plan to start The Little Women Letters today :)

Yes! I do have suggestions too! Sorry so slow to post lately. Been SUPER busy with work and life. I was saying to Annie the other day how the Little Women letters wouldn't really be MY thing in particular (but this Bookdclub certainly isn't all about ME!)because I really don't like fan fiction all that much. I steer clear of all that Jane Austen fan fiction and any other fiction related to authors/authoresses I love. I just don't feel like you can play with the material of or add on to "The greats". I don't know. I have trouble getting past that. ANYway... I love the idea of "The Tenderness of Wolves" and would totally read, but I know that isn't Charmaine's thing. Let me look through my list and see what I have for suggestions too!

Charmaine (wistad) Please don't skip The Tenderness of Wolves on my behalf! I might give it a try it y'all decide to go with it (if I can find an audio version).

The Various Flavors of Coffee

The Birth House

Lunch in Paris: A Love Story, with Recipes

I have several more that will be REALLY good reads I think, but these three I happen to OWN and not have read yet. Picked them up here and there. I already have so many out from the library I thought maybe I should try to read something I have! Anything sound good???

I would be interested in either The Birth House or Lunch in Paris. We don't have to decide TODAY, but we should pick out one by the end of October so that I can order it from the library ;)
In all honesty, I don't care what we read! I just like reading and I like book clubs because they pull me out of my book-shell and I get a good cycle of books I might not otherwise look at! I'm game for whatever :)

I like the idea of "The Birth House", "The Tenderness of Wolves" or I could just read Outlander (which I have yet to start and will take a fair amount of time I'm sure!) and you ladies can read "Little Women Letters". :-) And maybe you'll start RAVING about it until I feel compelled to pick up a copy. Who knows.

Charmaine (wistad) The Birth House sounds really good. But I'm not up for "....a stunning blend of exotic adventure and erotic passion..." in The Various Flavors of Coffee. Lunch in Paris: A Love Story, with Recipes sounds ok.

Maybe just add them all and we'll read what we want and see who comments... maybe one of the books will draw out the rest of our group's members ;)

Charmaine (wistad) I started The Birth House today. So far, so good. Anyone else plan to read it?

I'll be reading it for sure! I'm bringing it with when I come up to visit. :-)

The library emailed me and said my copy is in so I will be picking it up today! I'm really looking forward to this one :)

Charmaine (wistad) Oh,good! I think it's a story that we are going to want to discuss on here. Google "Scots Bay Nova Scotia" so you'll see where the story takes place. It's a real location and it looks like an amazing place to live.

Tonya | 6 comments I started reading "Outlander" yesterday. So far it's not to bad.
