I did twitter about a year or so ago but haven't much since then.
Twitter is a program that lets you update yourself from your cell phone or any computer. It's kind of like the wall on facebook only you can do it from your cell or any computer and people can follow you from their computer.
Crappy explanation but google twitter I'm sure theyd explain it better.

Twittering is like a two line blog. Some people carry on chaotic public text-like conversations with their friends, others post news updates, others announce in the hope of selling this or that, others stop by occasionally with a thoughtful and provocative one-liner.
