Imagine my genuine surprise when I was compelled to finally read this classic and found it to be nothing like the classic movie (Boris Karloff)I grew up with! I suppose some will be diappointed by this fact, but I found the story to read like a Greek Tragedy. I had sympathy for both the monster and his creator, and struggled emotionally with the complexity of the issues. Has anyone else read this recently?

I've read it, quite a while ago. And yes, it is NOTHING like the classic movie with Boris Karloff, except for the idea that humans are the true monsters, when we forget our humanity.
The movie version by Kenneth Branagh is much more faithful to the book.
