So do we all think that Jamie is coming to the future?

I cannot wait to read the next book. I feel like I've been waiting forever! I cannot picture Jamie in the future but it would make a terrific story!
That would be too much "Crocodile Dundee". I wouldn't mind another setting-possibly returning to Scotland
Diana Gabaldon is my favorite author and I can't wait for her to come out with the next book. It's been so...long, I'm having withdrawals. :) I can't picture Jamie in the future either, but we'll see. I'm really glad to find your group.
I think DG has made it pretty clear that Jamie won't go to the future. It would be an interesting storyline, though!
Jamie won't go to the future. However, I am curious to see if Bree, Roger, and the family will go back eventually since ALL of them can travel... Now that they know they need some gems to do it! I'm with Woogie in wondering how modern day Lallybroch will progress in the books. Don't get me wrong--I ADORE Jamie and Claire, but I really like Bree the best.
I want to read more about the connection Jamie has to the others through his dreams (as the ghost in Outlander and seeing Bree, Roger and kids in Inverness). I would rather that then Jamie time traveling. Love this group!
Has anyone found another author/book that is similar to Gabaldon's Outlander? Historical fiction/romance...not necessarily time travel? I need something to fill the time until the next book arrives.

Her stories deal with current times, historical and usually ghosts or reincarnation or possessions from the past. I love Gabaldon but Erskine is awesome too but in an entirely different way. I find her books to be addictive.
I just finished The Red Tent a few nights ago... wonderful book... a totally different kind of historical fiction. If you know the bible story of Jacob, Joseph and company, this will surprise you because its the same story told from the women's point of view... and a much easier read than Outlander (much less detail).

They include a cameo of Clare in the first book, "Into the Wilderness." Gabaldon gives the books her endorsement. I really liked them.
It's not quite the same style, but I really enjoy the Study Series by Maria V. Snyder. The series begins with Poison Study, Magic Study, then Fire Study. Check out the new post on this discussion here. http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/9...
Is anyone curious about Jaimies son that Lord John has raised? I'm curious about him and what will happen if he fights against Jaimie and Young Ian in the war. I certainly hope we see more of Bree and Roger, but I want to see Young Ian have more story time.
A book sugestion is Pamela Clare's McKinnon's Rangers series or the Blakely/Kenleigh series. Ride the Fire is my favorite.

I didn't know Claire made a Cameo. Who was she?

Remember how she is described as a "witch" in the first Outlander books because of her healing ability? Well, she is the subject of rumor and speculation in this conversation. I can't remember all the details without looking it up, but I promise you it's there!

What a coincidence. I would have never remembered that. But I haven't done a reread of the Into the Wilderness series yet. Need to though, its one of my favs. That and The Tea Rose series by Jennifer Donnelly. That is really good also.
Claire is mentioned in Into the Wilderness on page 320. . . . "and raised his glass. To Nathaniel who brought young John through the lines, he said. And to the White Witch - Claire Fraiser who brought him through his fever." There are a few other paragraphs that mention them on the same page but that is the gist.

I am currently reading The Fiery Cross and I'm at the part where Roger is getting over his hanging. I love roger's character. I have wanted all along for him to show Jamie that he is just as strong and talented as himself. I know that DG probably has a plan for Roger, but I feel that this is a part in the series where I'm disapointed. Roger is much stronger than this. He has traveled through the stones, lived through a horrible voyage across the ocean, lived through being sold as a slave to the Indians and survived a terrible infection. He has accepted Jemmy as his son, when there isn't absolute proof. I'm just not sure that he would have acted so rashley at the Regulator Rebellion and kissed Morag. Maybe it shows how sensitive he is, but he isn't stupid. He wouldn't have taken a chance like that. What do you all think?
Wendy wrote: "I am currently reading The Fiery Cross and I'm at the part where Ro..."I agree with you. It thought it was a little out of character for him to do that. I don't think he would be that careless.
I have a few of the quotes from the series on my favorite quotes but I find more of them all of the time.pg.1084 The Fiery Cross
"You are beautiful," he whispered to me
"If you say so."
"Do ye not believe me? Have I ever lied to you?"
"That's not what I mean. I mean--- if you say it, then it's true."
"Do you not say it of me, Sassenach?"
"Do I say what, that your beautiful?"
"Well...not that. But that you can bear my looks, at least."
"You are beautiful to me Jamie, so beautiful you break my heart."
Wendy, When I read FC and got to the part you mentioned, I too was a bit disappointed; at how Reger is always perceived as weak ( maybe it's just my perception) even though he has gone through hell and back, he is in fact a 20th cent. man and would react to situations differently just by instinct...even though he probably should have "caught on" by now that this world he is now is a whole different animal! I think he is a sensitive soul...in a different way that Jamie is sensitive. Jamie's tough side overpowers to me, all the good poor Roger does.
And Jamie has lied to Claire..half the truth is still a whole lie my mother used to say to me.
I just checked Diana's home page and saw that the release date for An Echo in the Bone is tenatively set for Sept 2009. I can't wait!!! I'm thinking about re-reading the last book before then to refresh my memory.
Remind me of when he lied to Claire, Cynthia. Are you talking about being married to Laogaire? Of coarse that came out now didn't it. And he really paid for that one, and still is out of his pocket book.
Wendy wrote: "Remind me of when he lied to Claire, Cynthia. Are you talking about being married to Laogaire? Of coarse that came out now didn't it. I can't remember..Did he tell Claire about the women at the cave who gave him the"send off"?

"Do ..."
I absolutly love that! How sweet...........
I just finished The Fiery Cross and so far in all of the books (I'm re-reading them for the third time) Jamie hasn't mentioned the send off in the cave. Of coarse he did live in a cave for seven years, he deserved a little somthin somthin, even if he doesn't tell Claire.

DG has told me at her blog that we will find out how Jamie, in ABOSAA, knows that Amanda is a 'fiesty, wee baggage'. Yay! Either Jemmy can see Grandda while Jamie is dreaming into the future, or they go back. I think it would be a hoot if Jem decided to take Amanda back for a visit. Bree and Roger would go nuts! And I can't wait to find out who L is messing about with.
I was talking about that with my friend. It's being elder Ian. Marsali does say in Voyager that L liked 'him' well enough. I wondered why she'd said that other than to stand up for Fergus and his having no hand.My friend thinks that it was a woman L was with. Well, she didn't take too kindly to men.
I'd hate for it to be young Jamie. And I think maybe his mother would as well.
Either way, it's someone that Jenny could not tell Jamie about in a letter. Hmmmm.
Your theory's are interesting. I hadn't thought about it being someone from the family. I hope it isn't. Young Jamie would just be awful, she is so much older than he is, yuck. I always thought that it was just another man not connected with the family.
I hope it isn't either..I was just thinking that it would be someone we would NEVER expect..and the fact that Jenny did not or would not mention the name in the letter made me suspicious!! I'm just letting my imagination run wild...I never thought that it could be another woman...that aslo could be an interseting twist..it just seems she had been soooooo enthralled with Jamie ever since she was a young girl, jumping the tracks seems strange..but you never know. Has Diana ever done a live webcast with her fans to discuss her books? kind of like Oprah did with the Eckhart Tolle guy? that would be so fun to go book by book
Wendy wrote: "I'm not sure Diana has done a live web cast or not, but I think she has. "so what do you think about L with a woman theory that Renee suggested?
I'm not buying it. I think that L had a problem with Jamie being in love with Claire. He would never stop loveing her and L knew that. She hated Claire. I think it is definately some other man from around town, but it will be interesting to get these questions answered. I hope they get answered.
It was my friend Kristy who had the idea it might be a woman. She's here somewhere. I got her to join the group as well.I'm thinking that L had someone before she wed Jamie and that she married Jamie because she needed his support. I think she was well over Jamie by the time they wed and she did it just to use him and maybe get a little revenge as well.
Sneaky of DG not to let us know who. :) A little cliff hanger there.
yes! it's so much fun though to speculate and try to guess!! None of my friends will read the series soooo thanks for indulging me in these conversations! I really look forward to the responses!!
LOVE talking about the series. I've read it about 7 times and I'm working on 8. I have to have my Jamie and Claire fix before going to sleep.I didn't wait to convince my friend or my cousin to read the books, I just sent them Outlander. They're both hooked now. :)
Kristy and I do a lot of speculating. It's fun.
What about Dougal's child from the first book? He isn't that much younger than L and we haven't heard much about him as an adult. Unless I missed something. It has been a long time since I read the first two books.
Hamish? He ends up in Canada at the time. The boy with Gellis is adopted out. So, it can't be either of those.I once jokingly thought 'Ned Gowan'? Hahaha.

I must have missed Hamish being in Canada. It really could be Ned Gowan. He was her attorney for the divorce. I really do hope that it is not someone in the family.
