Lydia (loverofinformation) | 596 comments Leviathan by Scott Westerfield, known for his Uglies series, is a very exciting alternate history book. The characters include the prince of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and a female soldier posing as a male. The setting is science-fiction exciting with those who are Darwinists versus those who are Clankers [those who use, fabricate and modify animal species and those who believe in the use of machinery].

Has anyone else read this first in a series? Does this meet the definition of historical fiction although their are strong science fiction elements?

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) I've just finished up Leviathan on audiobook. Such an exciting book to listen to!

I agree that this can fall under different genres, I'd say sci-fi first, but definitely historical fiction as well. While the transportation may not be "real", the alliances and enemies certainly.

I love the idea of an alternate history!
