Which book have you read this semester (since school began in August until now) that you would recommend to your classmates?
Give the book title, author and the reason why you recommend it, include the genre, types of characters and literary elements involved in the book that would compel someone to read it.

Julia wrote: "I recommend the book "Unwind," by Neal Shusterman. This book is full of drama and suspense that keeps you on the edge"Julia just because it is full of drama and suspense doesn't compel someone to read it. What more could you tell me about this story that would make me want to read it? Think of it like a commercial and if you sell 1,000 of these books...you'll be rich. Now what would you say about it?

Jaeziel Clark | 4 comments I recommend the book "Blood Ninja I” and “Blood Ninja II" by Nick Lake because it's very entertaining to those who love action and drama. The characters and setting are based on Ancient Japan where it was ruled by Shoguns and Lords. The main characters have shown a lot of emotions during their conflicts and you can sometimes imagine the scenes of almost all the parts. This book can help you waste some time if your waiting or if you’re bored and have nothing to do.

Radhika | 3 comments I read the book Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyers and I think it was amazing book because it was suspenseful and had a good moral. I mean seriously look past how "hot" Taylor Lautner is because everyone knows that. When you look past the overall story to the deeper meaning you see that the fight between good and evil can be won by perseverance and without fighting and hurting one another. Some of the literary elements that Meyers included in this novel are suspense, similes, metaphors, and supernatural events. I recommend this novel to anyone who is looking for an entertaining story that just seems to leave you wishing for more after it ends. It includes the fact of how one person can change the minds of all the people around them by making the right decision. The best part: THE MOVIE IS OUT!!! Breaking Dawn (Twilight, #4) by Stephenie Meyer Breaking Dawn (Twilight, #4) by Stephenie Meyer Stephenie Meyer

Julia Weber | 3 comments I recommend the book "Unwind" by Neal Shusterman because this book is full of suspense and drama that keeps you on edge. The characters in this book evolve from the beginning to the end. The imagery in "Unwind" was so creepy and detailed at some points that it made me want to jump out of my skin. This is my all-time favorite book because it made me think about the characters as real people, and not just words on a page. I recommend "Unwind" to those who love fiction, but are able to deal with the disturbing scenes.

Ronjie Tan (rawronjie) | 4 comments I recommend the book "Power of Six" by Pittacus Lore and it's a science fiction book that's action packed and suspenseful. The characters are fairly light hearted, but evolve to be darker and more mature. It's also a a good follow up to "I am Number Four" if any of you are Lorien fans and or are familiar with the movie of the same name. Overall it's a good book and I don't wan to spoil it for you so if you can try to pick it up and read it, but to get a better feeling for the book, I recommend reading "I am Number Four" first.

message 7: by Sam (last edited Nov 30, 2011 08:49PM) (new)

Sam Shrimpton | 2 comments The book "Seekers" by Erin Hunter is a very good book. Its about three bears black bear, polar bear, and grizzly bear and they need to survive in the harsh weathers of Alaska. This book is very exciting none of the bears know each other. But they have to work together. The beginning of the book can be boring at first but when you get into it it totally changes.

Summer Adams | 1 comments I am currently reading "Breaking Dawn" by Stephanie Meyers. This is one of those books that you don't want to put down because something new and exciting happens with the flip of every page. I would recommend this book to anyone who would like a modern day love story with an interesting twist.

message 9: by John (new)

John Cuevas | 4 comments I've just finished reading the book "Born to Play." I recommend this book to all sports fans because it can be inspiring. It shows a player overcome the talks of people, all the criticism and has become a great baseball player. But I mostly recommend this book to a person who knows baseball. I am sure a person who does not know this sport would not understand the book.

message 10: by Gimelle (new)

Gimelle Jacala (gimellejacala) | 4 comments The book "A Painted House" by John Grisham is a book that takes you back to 1952 in the South. Don't be intimidated by the setting because it includes a thrilling plot about surviving as a cotton-picking family with many twists and turns. The dynamic and surprising characters make the reader become suspicious and anxious to what will come from those characters.

Malia Bolko | 4 comments I am just finishing the book "Evermore" by Allison Noel. I recommend this book to all teenagers who are into romance, fiction and drama. This is a book about "immortals" that live forever. With undieing love and jealousy leading to tragic events you wonder if this love can last. When you think everything is good a twist is always there to surprise! This book keeps you wanting more, it keeps you on the edge of the seat.

Caitlyn Lee | 3 comments I recommend the book "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare, although we are reading it this year, it is an amazing story. If you are into stories about love and tragedy, this is the book to choose. I recommend "Romeo and Juliet" because it is an all around amazing story. Although it is written in old English and a bit hard to understand, you really can feel the characters pain and their love. Romeo and Juliet fall in love an want to be together dispite the disapproval of their rival families. They do all they can to be together but in the end, there is tragedy. I recommend this book to all, even if you aren't into romance or love stories.

message 13: by Carly (new)

Carly Gordon (carly97) | 3 comments I recommend the book “God Don’t Like Ugly” by Mary Monroe for people who adore urban stories or African-American historical fiction. The story takes place in Richland, Ohio around the 1950’s in a tiny community of gossip and secrets. If you enjoy books that are both suspenseful and inspiring, this is the book for you. The only contrary is that the book is written with a ghetto tone, so keeping up with the slang.

Jerrick | 4 comments I highly recommend the book "War is.." by Campbell Patty for people who always wondered what goes through soldiers heads when they go to war. the book is a collection of short stories based around various soldiers experinces dealing with war. if you want to join the military then you want to read this book, because it does a startling good job of depicting just how gruesome war is.
please note however this book contains copious amounts of profainty, gore, and even some sexual remarks.

Ryan Villaseran | 3 comments I recommend John Green's fictional story, Looking for Alaska because it makes me want to read it. It's about a teenage boy that chooses to move schools from Florida to Alabama. Each character in this story may remind you of someone you know in real life because the characters are realistic. Most of the characters are teenagers so you may enjoy this story because you can relate to it.Looking for Alaska

message 16: by Kristina (new)

Kristina Manuel | 3 comments I recommend "Palace of Mirrors" by Margaret Peterson Haddix because it is a great book for those who enjoy fantasy books. I believe this is a great book because it pulls the readers into a fictional world with castles and princesses. It also includes danger as well as mystery. The book makes readers anxious to see what happens next and keeps readers' attention to the story. The characters can be easily related to the readers.

message 17: by Veronica (last edited Nov 28, 2011 11:36PM) (new)

Veronica Chin (crimschin) | 6 comments I recommend "Uglies" by Scott Westerfeld because it's a story about a girl who grows up thinking that she will become pretty and accepted after a cosmetic surgery occurring on her 16th birthday. I recommend this book because it teaches the reader to realize that beauty is on the inside and not on the outside. Readers learn to realize that everyone is beautiful in their own way. "Uglies" draws the readers more into the futuristic world with every word on the page. The characters evolve continuously throughout the story. The imagery of the book is suspenseful and adventurous in many places that it made me not want to stop reading. This book would be one of my favorites because I can easily relate to the characters by how they learn about accepting internal beauty. I recommend "Uglies" to all readers who love futuristic stories, romance, and adventure.

message 18: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 6 comments I recommend the book "The Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett. This book is based on 12th century Eangland and is about the war between King Stephen and Queen Maud. It follows many well developed characters which include a builder and his family, a noble and his son and daughter, a prior named Phillip, the evil Sir William Hamleigh, and many more. This book is very detailed and entertaining. If you enjoy well developed storys with characters that are very realistic then this is the book for you.

message 19: by John (new)

John Cuevas | 4 comments I recommend the book "Born to Play" by Dustin Pedroia and Edward J. Delaney because it can be inspiring to a person who would want do accomplish a goal but people do not think this person can do it. This book is a memoir about Dustin Pedroia becoming a baseball player. It shows Dustin Pedroia overcome the talks of people, all the criticism and has become a great baseball player. But I mostly recommend this book to a person who knows baseball. I am sure a person who does not know this sport would not understand the book.

Iain Laprade | 4 comments I recommend the book "Battle Royale" by Koushun Takami. It is set in a future where Japan is a totalitarian state, and students from all over are dropped into a competition where they are forced to kill each other. The characters are realistic and have the same problems any other teenager would have.It is similar to "The Hunger Games,"but I think this book is more gripping and well written. If you liked "The Hunger Games" but wanted something more action-packed and beefed up, then I'd recommend this book to you.

message 22: by Wesley (new)

Wesley Galloway | 1 comments I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK "MORE THAN A GAME" by brian billick.THIS BOOK IS MAINLY ABOUT BRIAN TALKING ABOUT THE NFL,COACHING,AND RULES.I THINK MORE THAN A GAME DOES A GREAT JOB HELPING FANS OF PRO FOOTBALL GAIN A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF HOW COACHES AND GENERAL MANAGERS MAKE THEIR KEY DICISIONS,AND DRAFTING AND KEEPING PLAYERS.

message 23: by Roderick (new)

Roderick Toliver | 5 comments I recommend the book "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins. This book is a violent, exhilarating book that will keep you on the edge of your seat at all times. "Beefed up?" really? Well I do like action books because it entertains me a lot. I will most likely will try to read that book after I finish my book and read "The Power of Six." Do you know if there are any other actions books, or where I can find books like these?

I would like to read the book, but I don't know what you mean by "realistic and detailed" of the characters as you mentioned in your review. Does the book show emotions or something? Well, I heard it was good anyways. I will try.

I absolutely agree beacuse for a while I was obssesed wiht the series and I was definately on the edge of my seat. I was wondering why you think the characters are suspenseful becasue I thought they were outright in their goals.

I really did not like this book because it seemed like there were too many people spying and going on secret missions and it just didn't seem plausible that someone could do that and I like things to happen that could happen if fiction was real. What made it an interesting read for you? Was it the characters or the plot sequence?

Well, it is sort of like those overrated gory when I wrote it in my review, but that's just the points I wanted to talk about because those are the interesting parts, in my opinion of course. I guess the plot is good I guess. I'll give the plot a 7/10. The plot is original in a way, but the rest are fine. There isn't as much gore and blood as you think, but most likely would be one if it was made into a movie.

I thought that Paolini did a fantastic job of closing out the series. I am happy to say that this has been one of the best Book series that i have ever read. Paolini features tons of action, suspense, and heartbreak that lead up to a cery satisfying conclusion. i would reread this book any time. I hope that you enjoy the book too. If you've already read the book, what did you think of it?
