I haven't read this but my son did, and he really liked it: The Bar Code Tattoo (Bar Code, #1) by Suzanne Weyn

(He's only 11 but he reads at a young adult level. Most of the YA books I read I hand off to him when I'm done.)

This looks really good!!

message 14: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Scott (michellescottfiction) I didn't realize that The Chemical Garden books were dystopian. I'll have to check them out.

A few months ago, I read Feed by M.T. Anderson which was pretty good.

I will have to add it to my list looks interesting

Michelle Scott (michellescottfiction) Tana wrote: "I will have to add it to my list looks interesting"

It wasn't my *favorite* book I read this year, but the dialogue is amazing. So is the fact that Feed was written quite a while ago, yet the technology it describes is so current.

Be warned, though. This is a YA book, but the language is very strong.

Sarah (sarahlizzy) we are all forgetting Enclave! Enclave (Razorland, #1) by Ann Aguirre Oh my god that book is AMAZING. awaken was really good. i loved how sweet it was. you can also check out Matched Matched (Matched, #1) by Ally Condie and it's sequel crossed.. Crossed (Matched, #2) by Ally Condie oh and the Uglies Series is the absolute best series i have ever read. every single Uglies book was perfect. even the spinoff, extras. the host is so great as well and i cant wait for the movie. Saoirse ronan is the actress playing melanie. Oh and guys you cannot forget to read Unwind.. Unwind (Unwind, #1) by Neal Shusterman i NEVER cry in a book and this book made me ball like a baby. i started reading across the universe and Yawn... could not hold my attention cause all the descriptive terms and technology was just too hard to grasp. ooo oohh and the forest of hands and teeth The Forest of Hands and Teeth (The Forest of Hands and Teeth, #1) by Carrie Ryan is sorta a zombie book but still has that dystopian feel to it.. very worth checking out... did i mention that i LOVE any and all Dystopian books? Wither was good but i cant wait till the next one comes out.

message 21: by Sarah (new)

Yes! Im glad your liking it it's amazing! Hopefully Fox picks this movie up before someone else does.

message 33: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Scott (michellescottfiction) Last year, I read Feed by M.T. Anderson which, at first, doesn't sound like a dystopian book, but certainly becomes one later on. It was a fascinating read mostly because it was written six or seven years ago, but the author really understood where technology was heading.

Warning, though. This was marketed as a YA book; however, the language is very strong.

Wow Sarah you listed all the books I've loved reading. The only one I have not read is Enclave, but it is on my TBR list. Anyone who has not read Forest of Hands and Teeth, get on it!!! that series was awesome......as was the Uglies series (even though I was disappointed with how it turned out in the end, it made sense and I loved the series anyway).

message 35: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarahlizzy) Twana, i think u just became my new best friend. haha... i find myself reading only dystopian books. i have read a few more since i posted this that you definately have to read if you havent yet. Blood Red Road was amazing and i just finished legend last week and it was divine! Legend (Legend, #1) by Marie Lu Blood Red Road (Dust Lands, #1) by Moira Young

message 36: by Tawna (new)

Tawna | 479 comments Wow thanks sarah. I have blood red road and legend on my to read lists and I'll probably hit up those before the next books come out. i don't want to be interupted during series reads, but I am a multi-tasker too i am sure I can hanle it :)

Richard if you liked 1984 try We - it's the book that Orwell borrowed from (heavily) for 1984

I *was* only going to buy one, but I ended up buying all of them :P My excuse is that I can give them to my daughter and loan them to my daughter's friend, lol. The Scorpio Races looked the best to me, though. A few of the others might be too young for my tastes.

I love this book. Maggie says its not really a distopian book but more like a world set in another time and another place where magical horses can pop out of the ocean. but none the less it is one of my faves and Maggie is my favorite author. ever..
