Nerdfighters discussion
What are you reading?
(Btw: Thirteen Reasons is amazing!!)1.Department Nineteen, Witchlanders, Article 5, and The Boy Who Loved Batman.
2.Pregnant Pause, The Dead, and Looking for Alaska
3.The Tales of Beedle the Bard, Anthem, and Birth of a Killer
4.An Abundance of Katherines, A Monster Calls, and The Psychology of Harry Potter
5.Leviathan and Interview With a Vampire
1. The Wisdom of Forgiveness by Victor Chan & His Holiness The Dalai Lama (Great, inspiring read).2. God, No! Signs You May Already Be An Atheist and Other Magical Tales by Penn Jillette of Penn & Teller. (Extremely funny and insightful). Inkheart by Cornelia Funke.
3. The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, Inkspell, Inkdeath.
4. Hunger Games and Inkdeath. SO good.
5. Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins (I'm finally reading through the series, finished the first 2 in under 3 days).
1) What are you reading now? How do you like it so far? I'm re-reading Brisingr (by Christopher Paolini) atm.. It's really good, and I can't wait 'til I finish re-reading it so I can finally read Inheritance :). I'm also re-reading Mansfield Park by Jane Austen.
2) Books you've recently read and given 4 stars?
Uhm.. Not sure if I've given anything 4 stars..
3) Books you've recently read and given 5 stars?
I'd give 5 stars to Dash & Lily's Book of Dares
by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan. It's set around Christmas, and just generally awesome.
4) Books you've recently read and given a bajillion stars?
The Perks of Being a Wallflower. It's pretty amazing.
5) What books are you reading next? Why?
Inheritance! Also, Lola and the boy next door by Stephanie Perkins. I really liked her previous book Anna and the French kiss (oh, and a whole bunch of other books I still have lying around...).
1) What are you reading now? How do you like it so far? Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson - I'm about half done and I'm really enjoying it!
2) Books you've recently read and given 4 stars?
The Maze Runner by James Dashner - I was really into it up until about the last 30 pages or so when the entire plot twisted...not so sure I like where its going for the second book in the trilogy.
3) Books you've recently read and given 5 stars?
We'll Always Have Summer by Jenny Han - I LOVED this book! It was a great ending to an amazing trilogy, its definitely a must-read if you like a good light-hearted YA romance.
4) Books you've recently read and given a bajillion stars?
Nothing recently was THAT good
5) What books are you reading next? Why?
Dash & Lily's Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn & David Levithan - to get into the holiday spirit
City of Bones by Cassandra Clare - I've been wanting to read this series for the longest time because I've heard such great things about it and I am finally getting around to it
1) What are you reading now? How do you like it so far?I just finished Inheritance, it was ok. The ending was a bit of a cop out though
2) Books you've recently read and given 4 stars?
I haven't read much recently...unfortunately school and other stuff gets in the way
3) Books you've recently read and given 5 stars?
I will rarely if ever give a book 5 stars. There's no much thing as perfection
4) Books you've recently read and given a bajillion stars?
I think realistically :p A bajillion out of 5 is beyond my comprehension :p
5) What books are you reading next? Why?
Right, I do have a reading list...but likely won't start until christmas/ Steve Jobs biography is on there, as is Julian Assaunge's autobiography. As far as fiction goes I plan on reading Farenheit 451, Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy..and then any books which are on Goodreads "Best of 20th century" list that aren't Anne Frank's Diary, or that I haven't already read.
So that's my little update to aid the movement of this group :p
1) What are you reading now? How do you like it so far? "Save Me the Waltz" by Zelda Fitzgerald. I'm actually loving it. She has a unique kind of prose. 2) Books you've recently read and given 4 stars? "Girl Interrupted" by Susan Kaysen was really good. It's about insanity. Be forewarned if you read it: there are some thematic elements as well as some language.
3) Books you've recently read and given 5 stars? I recently reread "The Hobbit". That will always be a 5 star book for me. It was the first book I bought myself when I was little.
4) Books you've recently read and given a bajillion stars? "The Man Who Was Thursday" by G.K Chesterton. In my experience, people either love this book or hate it. I think it's fantastic but...whatever! :D Also, not a recent read, but "Paper Towns" is worth every star you can give it.
5) What books are you reading next? Why? "The Virgin Suicides", "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children", and "V for Vendetta" are all on my list of books to read. Why? Because they seem intriguing, though in different ways.
So, yep. I'm new, btw. :)
1.) "100 cupboards" I like it, I suppose.2.) "Teen angst? Naah..." by Ned Vizzini. I really liked it, some of the stories were a little boring, though.
3.)"2BR02B" by Kurt Vonnegut, "Bossypants" by Tina Fey
4.) "Washed by blood" by Brian Welsh (Its religious, so yeah, there's your warning if that isn't your thing.) Also, every book John has ever wrote but thats obvious because this is a nerdfighter group.
5.)"Catching fire" by Suzanne Collins because I want to finish all of the books before the movie comes out.
1) What are you reading now? How do you like it so far?The Night Angel trilogy by Brent Weeks. They're good books so far, but I think I need a break from action-packed fantasy. I'm getting tired of assassinations, haha.
2) Books you've recently read and given 4 stars?
Son of the Shadows by Juliet Marillier. Her writing is gorgeous and she weaves some brooding romances, but I preferred the first book in the series, Daughter of the Forest.
3) Books you've recently read and given 5 stars?
Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson. Heartpoundingly intense and entertaining with some interesting philosophical and theological tones.
4) Books you've recently read and given a bajillion stars?
I think reading a book warranting that number of stars would give me a heart attack of awesome. Mistborn would come closest out of my recent reads.
5) What books are you reading next? Why?
Goliath by Scott Westerfeld (once I'm at the top of the waiting list at the library) because I need to finish off that series. And Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer because I'm a vegetarian for no real reason and am trying to figure out whether I should stay that way.
P.S. I like hearing about other nerdfighters' reading interests! Feel free to add me as a friend on here.
1) Right now I've just started reading Deathnote Black 1. I've already seen the anime, so I know I'm probably going to enjoy the manga.2)A book that I've read recently and given four stars for is Mockingjay. A great ending installment to The Hunger Games trilogy, but I knocked off a star because of the ending, not really sure how I feel about it yet. (My emotions are still a little raw over a certain character).
3) Catching Fire comes in at a close second after it's predecessor. I was going to give it a four, but my love for Finnick made me add another star.
4)Books I've read recently and given bajillion stars to, is The Hunger Games, in my opinion it's the best of the trilogy. I just loved reading about the build up to the games and the action itself. I couldn't put this book down.
5)Next, I'll hopefully read the Deathnote 2. But, I may have to give that little dream up and re-read my books for my English exams: Macbeth, Doctor Faustus and The Bloody Chamber.
I also recently bought Captain America Reborn, which I really want to start reading. But I also want to read the previous issues as well so I actually know what's going on, sigh.
I'm currently reading Omnitopia: Dawn along with The Odyssey. Yes, it's for ELA, but it's AP so we're reading all twenty-four books.
1) What are you reading now? How do you like it so far?
March by Geraldine Brooks. It's really fantastic - it's about the father who goes to war in Little Women, so it's just fiction, not historical fiction. But I keep forgetting that fact and wanting to look up historical facts about Mr. March, who, let me remind you, does not exist.
2) Books you've recently read and given 4 stars?
Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro (mostly because it wasn't what I expected it to be.)
Deenie by Judy Blume (again, it was good, but it wasn't a favorite, per se...I'm picky...)
3) Books you've recently read and given 5 stars?
Stuck Rubber Baby by Howard Cruse (it was incredible! Read it now!)
The Pox Party by M. T. Anderson (it was a reread - I liked it much better this time.)
4) Books you've recently read and given a bajillion stars?
Uh...Stuck Rubber Baby by Howard Cruse? Need I repeat myself? YOU SHOULD READ IT.
5) What books are you reading next? Why?
Little Women. I'm having book cravings for it. Also, more of The Sandman and the very last Scott Pilgrim book.

1) The Sweet Far Thing by Libba Bray. I'm loving it so far, but that's not a surprise, considering I loved both the first two.2) A Great and Terrible Beauty, Shatter Me.
3) Rebel Angels, The Night Circus, Paper Towns, The Scorpio Races.
4) Any of the answers to #3, really, but especially Paper Towns.
5) Divergent, Cold Kiss, Under the Never Sky, Delirium, Paranormalcy, Supernaturally, 13 Little Blue Envelopes, I Am the Messenger, the Vampire Academy series, the Inheritance cycle, the Beka Coooper Trilogy, Good Omens, etc. I'm basically reading these because I have heard good things about them and am/will be in possession of them, although in the case of the Inheritance and the Beka Cooper Trilogy I'm re-reading the first books so I can read the final ones.
1) Okay, so I *just* finished A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin and it was EPIC. Literally.2) The Help
3) A Game of Thrones, Dracula
4) The same as above I would think!
5) THE FAULT IN OUR STARS OF COURSE. I haven't been home yet and I won't be until next week so I'll have to wait :( And after that, the second book in the Millennium trilogy.
1) THE FAULT IN OUR STARS! *happy dance*
2) Wicked
3) The Nine Lives of Chloe King (yes, there's a book)
4) THE FAULT IN OUR STARS!
5) Any other book by John Green.
2) Wicked
3) The Nine Lives of Chloe King (yes, there's a book)
4) THE FAULT IN OUR STARS!
5) Any other book by John Green.
1)The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It's kay, sort of slow. I'm not used to this type of book yet. 2) The Surgeon. First murder mystery I've ever read.
3) Delirium. I really really enjoyed that.
4) The Fault in our Stars. It was truly one of the best books I've read in a long time.
5)Uh, I'm thinking the next Clockwork something book, I'm not sure though.
1) What are you reading now? How do you like it so far?I am reading "Transition" - Iain Banks. Its kinda of a head melt to be honest and very strange but I am enjoying it. I love Iain Banks!
2) Books you've recently read and given 4 stars?
The last book I gave 4 stars to was "Translations" - Brian Friel. It is a very good play set in ireland, I had to read it for my lit class.
3) Books you've recently read and given 5 stars?
The last book I gave 5 stars to I will save for question 4, but the one before that was "Will Grayson, Will Grayson" By John Green and David Levithan. It was so god damn good, but anything with even a fraction of john green in it will be, obviously.
4) Books you've recently read and given a bajillion stars?
The fault in our stars! It was so god damn good that I couldnt handle it! John Green tore my heart out and stood on it as I read this book. I FEEL ALL THE FEELINGS.
5) What books are you reading next? Why? The next book I will read with be either The perks of being a wall flower or thirteen reasons why, simply because they were recommended to me by a friend =]
1) What are you reading now? How do you like it so far? Wee Free Men by Pratchet, TFIOS by John Green, The Quark Story by Krakow, and JeBouffe Les Conserves Maison - a French book about canning fruit.2) Books you've recently read and given 4 stars?
Hmm - mostly 3 star books lately. The Implosion of Aggie Winchester by Lara Zeilin and I am the Wallpaper by Mark Peter Hughes.
3) Books you've recently read and given 5 stars?
Don't use 5 stars often - 13 Little Blue Envelopes by Maureen Johnson, Let It Snow (by several folks), The Mating Season by PG Wodehouse, and Looking For Alaska by John Green.
4) Books you've recently read and given a bajillion stars? 13 Little Blue Envelopes should really go here.

4) I loved loved loved The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin and it really deserves an infinite amount of stars.
5) I am reading A Million Suns by Beth Revis and The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith next because I loved Across The Universe, the first book in Beth Revis's trilogy and TSPoLaFS (wow that's long) sounds incredibly cute.
Hey guys,I'm new here. Nice to meet you all =)
Anyway, here are my answers:
1) I'm reading the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. It's amazing so far; but, I'm kind of bummed that I saw the movie before reading the book. Gah.
2) I've read the first three Game of Throne Books recently. I would give them all four stars. They're really good, but not 5 star material just because some chapters (aka Catelyn and Bran Chapters) are boring.
3) I read Howl's Moving Castle a few weeks ago. Definitely 5 stars. It's soooo good. The movie is also really good, if you're into animated films.
4) A bajillion stars?? Answer for 3. comes close, I suppose.
5) I'll probably read Blindness by Saramago or The Bad Girl by Llosa. I bought them recently because I wanted to read some Nobel winning authors, but haven't had time to read them yet.
1) Well, I have alot of books that I have started, but the one that is currently sitting next to me is called "Catching Fire" By Suzanne Collins? Have any of you heard of her? ;P 2) It was called Saving Max. Its kinda cool, a story about a mom whose son is on trial for murder. I mean I finished it in a Day, so it wasn't boring...
3) Twilight. Now I Know some of you are rolling your eyes in agony, But hear me out. I love the Twilight series for there sheer entertainment value. From a literary stand point, It's abosolutly terrible,it will never be the callibre of any classic novel, But from an entertainment point of view, it Amuses me very much.
4) The Fault in Our Stars by: John Green. I started this at 1am thinking, I will just read a chapter and go to bed.... next thing I know it was 5am and I was sobbing my eyes out. No joke the last 100pgs made me cry. I think this may be my new favorate novel, and thats saying something scince Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix has held that title for a very long time...
5)Well, I want to finnish the Hunger games, and then I just picked up a copy of Julius Ceaser By good o'll Will, and then I might venture into the waters of some new literature. Oh, and I have to read that darned Frankinstien for the 3rd time. Why do proffesers at my school seem to think that Frankinstien is the only example of good literature?

I haven't..."
5 stars doesn't necessarily mean perfection - for me its how impacted I feel by the book. For example, The Fault In Our Stars would be a 5 star rating for me because of how strongly I felt as I read it and afterwards. A bajillion stars tends to be when I'm rating the book immediately after I read it, when its still fresh in my mind and I haven't had a chance to calm down. Sometimes a book impacts me enough I can rate it a week later and still rate it a bajillion. That's just how I do it though. :)

I was a vegetarian for three years and didn't know why for the first two. I eventually found that I liked being a vegetarian because I knew it decreased my own impact, but it wasnt because meat was revolting to me. I often had to remind even my best friend's parents that they didn't have to keep the chicken in the kitchen when I was over for dinner or that I didn't mind avoiding the meatballs when eating spaghetti if it saved them from using a whole separate pan for me. I stopped being a vegetarian not because I stopped thinking this way, but because I moved to bush Alaska where it is much harder to be vegetarian. The only time we get fresh produce is when we fly to Anchorage, and the fish and occasional deer that we get from the land or other villagers hasn't been shipped miles and miles to get to my plate. I hope you find out your reason! Good luck :)

1) What are you reading now? How do you like it so far?\

I think The Catcher in the Rye is going to be my next pick, too. I tried reading 1984 but I put it down because I was in a funk and my own mood was ruining it for me. It's my dad's favorite book so I know I owe it to him.

I read The Uglies semi-recently and I really didn't love it all that much - basically it was good enough for me to feel like I had to finish it and put another title on my "read" list after I started it. The ideas behind the book weren't that intriguing to me - they were kind of obvious ones. A lot of people like it, though, so I think it's only fair to give it a shot.

Yes I loved Of Mice and Men! I've been trying to push through the beginning of The Catcher in the Rye because I know I'll probably end up loving it.

I hope you like Of Mice and Men! I've always remember it as being super hilarious, but I tend to get yelled at because most of it is dark humor and you know how dark humor is - a lot of people get touchy about it.
It is a fantastic book, and if it means anything (in my case, it does, because this doesn't happen often) it made me cry. MULTIPLE times. I probably almost pissed myself from laughter a few times, but those memories are hazy.
1. I'm sort of reading 8-9 books at the moment.. Depends on my mood, plus some are very different from the others. In order of how frequently I read in them they are: Fahrenheit 451, Paper Towns (not yet started), A Game of Thrones, Fight Club, Papirvegger (Paper Walls), Lost on Planet China (travel), The Bible, En ytterst interessant bok om alt du ikke vet (the first QI book), The Little Book of Mornington Crescent.
2. Robinson Crusoe (difficult read, but quite interesting), The Great Gatsby (better than expected), The Contortionists Handbook (intriguing).
3. Arcadia (one of the few curriculum books I've enjoyed).
4. An Abundance of Katherines (I read Looking For Alaska and thought it was okay, then I read TFiOS and loved it, and I have to say I loved AAoK almost as much).
5. Going to start Paper Towns today or tomorrow, and after that I should finish a few others I've started. Then I want to read The Catcher in the Rye and 1984. Also need to read LotR and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. "Read ALL the books!"
1) I’m currently reading Insurgent, by Veronica Roth. I only got it about… an hour ago? I’ve read the first few pages. Intriguing!2) The Maze Runner. I dunno, he lost the star because Thomas was kind of irritating at times.
3) Artemis Fowl. I really, really loved this. :D Can’t wait o read the next!
4) Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, or Divergent. All great books. :) Loved them to pieces.
5) Well, I have about… Seven on my list. Or something like that. I have to read ‘The Scorch Trials’ by James Dashner, because it’s second in the Maze Runner Trilogy. I have to read the Arctic Incident by Eoin Colfner, because the first book was… wonderful. Loved it. I have to continue. :) The third is Maximum Ride [Book #1] because everyone is recommending it and saying it’s really good, and the ratings agree. The fourth is Paper Towns, because it has many amazing reviews, has won quite a great award, was on the New York Times Bestsellers list, and it’s authored by John Green. Looking for Alaska, because it seems like a good book. Lastly, I’d like to read the Mark of Athena in October, because 1) I preordered it, and 2) it’s the next book in a great series.
1. At the moment I'm reading Matched by Ally Condie, this book is not as good as I expected. I find it boring in parts.I'm also reading 50 Shades of Grey (strictly for a laugh), its as badly written as I expected. Sorry to those that have read it.
2. The Great Gatsby, Fifty-One Shades: A Parody by Andrew Shaffer and Quidditch Through the Ages
3. The Diary of Anne Frank, The Tales of Beetle the Bard and Animal Farm
4. HARRY POTTER!
5. I'm either going to read Pride and Prejudice or Catching Fire next
:)
Insurgent1) It's actually quite good, I'm only 2 chapters in but, I finished Divergent in one sitting a few days ago and ran out and bought this immediately.
2) I just finished The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern... it was amazing, LOVED IT. The visuals were described so well with such vivid detail, I dreamed about it for days.
1) I'm currently reading Boys of My Youth by JoAnn Beard and Cannery Row by Steinbeck. I really like Beard, and I'm looking forward to reading more Steinbeck.2) I read This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen recently. I liked it, but I felt like I'd read it before, so I gave it 4 stars. But really, Dessen is a lovely writer.
3) I've been reading Going Bovine by Libba Bray, and I gave it five stars before I ever finished it. I love her style.
4) I've been re-reading the Harry Potter series. I gave Prisoner of Azkaban about a million stars. I love it. :)
5) Next, I want to read I Am Messenger by Markus Zusak, because I LOVED The Book Thief. Also, I have to read Franny and Zooey by Salinger for class, and I'm looking forward to that.

1) What are you reading now? How do you like it so far?
2) Books you've recently read and given 4 stars?
3) Books you've recently read and given 5 stars?
4) Books you've recently read and given a bajillion stars?
5) What books are you reading next? Why?
Here are my answers:
1) Currently reading Saving Francesca and Brave New World
2) Lightning Thief (Had to read it again for school...UGHHHHH. I liked it, but I can't believe I'm in the 10th grade and reading a book I read in the 5th grade.)
3) Stolen: A Letter to my Captor, and Perfect Chemistry
4) Either of the books from question 3 could fit in this category.
5) Speak, Thirteen Reasons Why, Rules of Attraction, and Chain Reaction. There are 10 others I have on my "to-read-top" list, but these 4 are the top of the top. I'm reading Speak 'cause I've wanted to read it for a while, Thirteen Reasons Why because it looks really good and it was liked by a lot of people who liked the books from question 4. Rules of Attraction and Chain Reaction because they are the two other books in the Perfect Chemistry series, and I LOVED Perfect Chemistry. (For those of you who've read it, you understand.)
I look forward to reading about your reading! :)
