Please feel free to introduce yourself and share where you found your love of memoirs. Personally, I have always loved biographies and when I was in elementary school I read through all of the biographies in the junior section in our public library - devouring the life stories of all of the famous americans and others famous historical figures from around the world. I love the modern memoir genre and have been reading memoirs for years. I also hope to write a few memoirs myself one of these days, but for now I will content myself with reading.

I have always loved reading. Not memoirs in particular, but anything I could get my hands on, though particularly poetry and anything with lots of interesting medical facts or facts regarding nature (especially ants; entomology is a plan for another life). Also, I'm incredibly lazy, as in turn me toward the light and water me periodically lazy, so I've always found it easier to let dead people do the thinking and reap the harvest of their labours. However, if I am to attribute any affection for memoir to anyone, I must confess that more than anyone else, Lance Anderson and his cheap, spiral-bound notebook jottings have instilled in me a deep and abiding love.
I haven't really read memoirs until this group was formed last year (offline that is) but I have found that I am really enjoying reading about other people's lives, especially when they overcome something hard, or rise above life's difficulties. Life is so challenging and I want to believe that there really is a silver lining through it all, and I find it encouraging to hear others who have made the best of it.

Activity on this group! I started this group in Vancouver WA and we had a fabulous time reading memoirs each month and then I moved to the east coast a few years ago. Would love to see some activity online or even better, someone should start it back up again!!
Hello - are you all still meeting as a group online? I am new here, but would be interested in sharing and participating. I read almost exclusively memoirs, particularly spiritual memoirs and my reviews here on Goodreads will reflect that! I tend to only review books that I truly love. I have also posted a blog on my favorite Spiritual Memoirs called Spiritual Memoirs: The Truth is Out There! https://sacredjourneytomore.com/2016/... - the opening essay talks about my love of true stories growing up.
