Book Geeks and Bookniks discussion

A moment of peace. It has been a flurry of activity at my house for the past 2 weeks. I've been to the airport 6 times, lol. All I want to do today is read and catch up on the laundry.

My goal today is to finish The Sealed Letter. I feel like I've been toting it around for too long.

I am going to try and finish The Last Colony by John Scalzi today.

Sadly still on this one as family have come for a visit and not got a night shift to help finish it!

Six trips to the airport! Hope you don't have to do it all again at Christmas, Stacey.

I just finished A Discovery of Witches which I loved, and I am now reading Grisham's The Confession.

I started Zone One at lunchtime today, and I'm absolutely hooked. It's not my usual genre, so maybe it will help get me out of this reading rut.

I just finished In the Belly of Jonah by Sandra Brannan. This is the Liv Bergen series. I've read them out of order. The third comes out in August of 2012. For those of you into Mystery and/or regional reads I recommend these as a little different. The first takes place in Ft. Collins, Colorado the second in Sturgis, South Dakota. Wyoming also plays a bit of a minor character.

Hope to finish up The Thirteenth Tale this week.

Up next will be On Chesil Beach and The Darkest Night: The Murder of Innocence in a Small Town if I can get it back from my daughter.

Currently reading A Brush With Death by Sheila Pim. Next up will probably be either Dream Queen: A Mystery by Betsy Thornton or Buried Prey by John Sandford. Did anyone see the TV movie of Certain Prey with Mark Harmon? What did you think?

I'm halfway through Skippy Dies and enjoying it. It's certainly different from my usual reading.

How are you liking Girl in Translation? I got this book recently and have it on my to-read list.

I'd really like to read Skippy Dies. I tried to win a copy, but luck was not with me that day.

I am presently enjoying When God Was a Rabbit and Gilead. I am not enjoying Andersonville even a little bit. I have a hard time with books about war unless they have compelling characters. Andersonville has the characters but the perspective and narration keep shifting. I am reading it for my Pulitzer group and I want to establish my creds as a serious reader with them, but I am within inches of yanking my bookmark and flinging it to the floor. I read fiction for pleasure!

Just started As Always Julia , and so far very enjoyable. Also, another online book club I participate in will start discussion of Before I Go To Sleep on Dec 1st, recently read that.

I've just started 'The Crossroads' by Niccolo Ammaniti. Only a few pages in but it seems very familiar .... wondering if I'd read it before!

I'm reading The Poisonwood Bible at the moment and I'm starting to really get into it.

I'm also reading Dracula, which I have read before but this version has a rather good introduction and includes some private letters at the back which my previous one didn't. And lets face it, it is just an awesome story!

I'm still reading Never Let Me Go and should be finished it in just a few days. I am liking but not loving it. It's an interesting enough story, but it doesn't pull me in the way other fantasy/sci-fi novels have.

I'm reading The Hangman's Daughter and loving it. The prolougue was was gruesome, but I continued on hoping that wasn't the tone of the rest of the book(and thankfully it wasn't).

I hear you, Vicky! ANY rest stop after dark creeps me out. The Hangman's Daughter isn't like that. I'm not looking over my shoulder, lol. It's historical fiction that takes place in the 1600's in Germany. I'm almost 1/2 thru and still loving it.

I hope to finish Falling Together. For some reason, the library gave me the large print edition, and I feel like I am reading a bible. I am becoming less enthralled with it, but I want to see how it ends.

Vicky, don't read The Stranger Beside Me: Ted Bundy The Shocking Inside Story then. Easily the scariest book I've ever read (which might not really be saying much since I don't read scary books, but this one IS really scary nonetheless). Ann Rule also has written at least one other one that takes place in the Pacific Northwest. She herself is from Seattle.

Stacy, that book sounds good. I added it to my to-read list.

I have 100pgs left and I hope the ending is as good as what I've read so far. He is currently working on the 4th in this series. The Hangman's Daughter is the only one that has been translated so far.

The other book by Ann Rule is probably about The Green River killer. I was young when that was making headlines, but what an unsettling time. I just saw a documentary on the Green River killer...so interesting and amazing that he eluded the authorities for so many years.

Yes, you're right about that other Rule book. I own it but have not yet read it.
