J.A. Belfield (jabelfield) As this year is almost over and I'm going to be mega busy between now and the beginning of Jan with my couple new releases I have coming out, I'm going to start my personal challenge in January. I've decided to do a double challenge.
Not sure whose heard of it but there's a FB page called Pixel of Ink and if you're subscribed to them, they give alerts of free/bargain ebooks available through Amazon/B&N. Well, I have grabbed a tonne of books for free through this website. BUT ... due to the lovely people of GR, I am constantly nudged to read all the well-known series' I have on my Kindle, which means all of my freebie titles are gathering dust. And I feel bad about it. So ... my double challenge is this:

1) To read a minimum of 72 (as nudged into by the slave driver, Carole-Ann :p) titles throughout 2012
2) For every series I get dragged into (whereas, I read every single title I have in the collection) I MUST read one of my freebie books before I can begin a new series.

I'll probably regret making this goal but hey ho. 2012 here I come. :o)

message 2: by Carole-Ann (new)

Carole-Ann (blueopal) 5 books a month??? Does that include the freebies???

I think you ought to up it to include more freebies - I've found some really good ones by 'spur of the moment' buying (but then there are always mistakes:( )

Try for 72 over the year?????
I've actually lost count of how many I've read this year....:) On average I read about 15 paper books per month, and goodness knows how many e-books!! :)

Just saying

BTW my intake has gone down over the last couple of months since I opened my shop....but I've now got to the stage where I have "free" time to indulge.....

*hugs*

J.A. Belfield (jabelfield) You telling me I'm going too easy on myself? You think I should be tougher? Okay, okay, I head in and edit it to 72, and that includes the freebies. :o)

Kayleigh {K-Books} (kayley_12) lol Julie. Mine is going to be 150 books next year.
I have read 114 so far this year so i think 150 will be a good challenge for me next year

message 5: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Belfield (jabelfield) I know I can hit more. I read 2/3/4 books per week. But I'm not sure what my schedule is going to be next year and I need to take that into consideration because if I get stuck too deep into a series, I can't write. And that pees off my editor when she's waiting on stuff. I know I have a few releases (optimistically) planned for 2012. One's a sure thing (though still unannounced), one I have edits to do on prior to submitting, and the other is a short story I've been asked to write to order. On top of sorting out those, I have book 4 to write for the Holloway Pack. So I think 72'll stick and I can always up it for the following year if I surpass it. :o)

Kayleigh {K-Books} (kayley_12) yes you need to write more. I just like to read read read haha

message 7: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Belfield (jabelfield) You certainly do. You're a reading fiend. :o)

Kayleigh {K-Books} (kayley_12) lol
I'm halfway through my next review book yay

message 9: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Belfield (jabelfield) You have a TONNE of review books to get through. An OBSCENE amount! How on earth do you find time to read stuff just because you feel like it? Or is it because you just read what tales your fancy that your review piles blocked up? lol

Kayleigh {K-Books} (kayley_12) I don't lol
I have been reading quite a few I've wanted to read lately so my review books have piled up but now I am just reading review books to get them down and I am not accepting any more until I have done these ones.
I want to hopefully get half of them read by New Year. dnt think I'll do it but i can try

message 11: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Belfield (jabelfield) Good luck! hehehehe. :o)

Kayleigh {K-Books} (kayley_12) thanks I'll need it lol

message 13: by Carole-Ann (new)

Seriously - keep to the writing!! No reading challenge can compare!!
*hugs*

message 14: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Belfield (jabelfield) Aww, thanks, Carole-Ann. I'll certainly keep writing. I have one of the Larsen's tales to tell next. Hmmm, Kyle, Dan, Josh? I'd tell who it is, but I'll wait a while before making that announcement, lol. :o)

J.A. Belfield (jabelfield) Just wondering if anyone has read any of the above titles? Or if anyone can strongly recommend any to kickstart my first choice?

Kayleigh {K-Books} (kayley_12) I can strongly recommend Amaretto Flame. I read it at the beginning of the year and I loved it. It's one of my favourite witch books of all time. Can't wait for book 2.

message 18: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Belfield (jabelfield) Cool. I shall bump that one to my #1 freebie read then. Thanks, Kayleigh. :o)

Kayleigh {K-Books} (kayley_12) =D
hope you like it.

i'm reading like a mad woman now after realising i have review books fir like the 5th and 6th of January :\

message 20: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Belfield (jabelfield) Books as in plural? Eeek. Better get a move on, lol.

Kayleigh {K-Books} (kayley_12) Yep
I have Mockingbird for the 1st which I just finished, paranormalcy and supernaturally for the 5th and tempest for the 6th which I totallu forgot about it.
reli i only have supernaturally and tempest for review but I haven't read paranormalcy yet and it might help to read the first book before the second lol

message 22: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Belfield (jabelfield) Ha! Yeah, I think reading Paranormalcy might help if you want a clue about what's going on. Tempest is that book with the uber-cool cover, right?

Kayleigh {K-Books} (kayley_12) I know.
Yea this is Tempest -> Tempest (Tempest #1) by Julie Cross Though I have the ARC cover so it's just white that says Tempest and has the people on without the background color lol

message 24: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Belfield (jabelfield) That's the one. Can't remember where I spotted it, but it's the kind of cover that makes me stare a while and go 'ooooooh, pretty', hehehehe.

Kayleigh {K-Books} (kayley_12) LOL I know I thought that as well
I think I'll like it. It definitely sounds like something I would love. I just need to read Paranormalcy and Supernaturally first lol
Think I might go to bed and snuggle up and read LOL

message 26: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Belfield (jabelfield) Sounds like a good plan. I have to wait for washing to finish and stew to cook first. :o\

Kayleigh {K-Books} (kayley_12) aww =(
i dnt want tomorrow to come i have to start my exam revision :'(

message 28: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Belfield (jabelfield) Urgh. I used to hate revising. Nothing ever stayed in my head long enough. I'm guessing you're a little better at it than me, though, so you'll probably be fine.

Kayleigh {K-Books} (kayley_12) Lol.
Except this time it's more like learning it now as I didn't actually learn anything for this module in the first place. That's what you get when you have a lecturer with a monotone voice

message 30: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Belfield (jabelfield) Oh good grief! Yeah, I hate flat voices. They're more likely to send off into the last scene of whatever book you're reading than want to pay attention to them because they'd even make a kickass fight scene from a high action novel sound boring.

Kayleigh {K-Books} (kayley_12) Yes that's exactly what I did so now I have like 20 days to learn everything.
Thank God it's a open exam and we already have the questions so I know what I have to write phew!

message 32: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Belfield (jabelfield) Phew indeedy. :o)

Kayleigh {K-Books} (kayley_12) Lol
Okay I'm going now. Need to stop getting distracted by Goodreads haha

message 34: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Belfield (jabelfield) I'll stop talking then. I need to get stuff done, too. :o)

message 35: by Keri (new)

Keri Lake | 20 comments OMG. Yeah, so I really need to bump my reading up a bit too. I gotta get a schedule going between work, mommy duty, writing book 2 and reading. It's a little chaotic right now. How do y'all do it??! I should set a goal for myself too...I typically need LOTS of pressure to get something done. I think I might sign up to that freebie book thingy too J.A. :)

message 36: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Belfield (jabelfield) It's on FB, Keri. Just go to the Pixel of Ink page and click like and then all the free/cheap books they highlight will show up in your feed. Around 90% of those I've listed above have come through that.
And you totally should set yourself a goal--gives you more purpose to find the time to read. Plus, the peeps on here are pretty good at egging you on. :o)

message 37: by Keri (new)

Keri Lake | 20 comments All signed up! Thanks for the info :)

Haha that's exactly what I need - a good push...

Only 71 left to go ....

message 39: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Belfield (jabelfield) And #2 is read: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/... I've had to link my review because, for some reason, GR's isn't acknowledging the book's--or author's--existence on here.

Anyhoo ... only 70 to go, lol.

message 40: by Jade aka MrsTosh (new)

Jade aka MrsTosh (mrstosh) I am loving your list!! you are like me I have soo many ebooks to read then I see a recommendation or good review and end up adding another one to the TBR list! never ending!

message 41: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Belfield (jabelfield) Never ending is right, lol. I swear I've added over 20 more books to my freebie pile since the new year. I just can't help myself. :o)

message 42: by Jade aka MrsTosh (new)

Jade aka MrsTosh (mrstosh) haha I know the feeling....I do it constantly! I downloaded a collection of Vampire ebooks last year and I am still only a quarter of the way through them and there were over 1000 books :( then every month another good book comes out or a sequl I just have to read!!
