Actually, a few. It was a mish-mash of fairy tales, but the main ones are the elves and the shoemaker and the frog prince. Cute retelling!

Azalea's mother gives her an embroidered handkerchief before she dies (which turns out to be magical). Apparently I'm on a fairy tale kick, this one is based on the 12 dancing princesses.

Just finished Wander Dust by Michelle Warren.

The protagonist, Sera, is given a birthday present from her father. It's a bracelet belonging to her mother and it sets the story in motion.

I'm new at these challenges, so forgive me. Do I need to add my point totals at the bottom after I finish a book? And the date I finished it? I've seen people do that and I wasn't sure about the rule here. Thanks!

No, that's not necessary. The only time you really need to add the date you read the book is if you read the book during the correct month but are posting it after the fact. It never hurts to give that information, however!

You don't have to do that, but it is helpful if you keep track so that you can make sure I don't make a mistake :)

The Dark Is Rising by Susan Cooper The story is set at Christmas and there is much exchanging of gifts, most significantly when Farmer Dawson gives Will the First Sign as a birthday present and when his brother Stephen sends a carnival head as a yule gift.

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin- for her birthday, Noah takes Mara to a seminar about unblocking her memories and pays (A LOT) for the treatment with the guru/shaman/priest. (12/3)

The Wrath of Mulgarath by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi- The elves give the Grace children the Field Guide and gift Arthur with his freedom. (12/11)

How to Save a Life by Sara Zarr- Jill and Dylan throw a birthday party/baby shower for Mandy and give her lots of baby clothes. (12/14)

Pretty Crooked by Elisa Ludwig- Willa gives loads of gifts to poor, scholarship students. It's a modern-day Robin Hood. (12/6)

After unfortunate circumstances, he is forced to slide it under her door. So he gives her the gift; whether it's received is the question left to the reader.
