I just joined the group and am excited about the country challenge. But what do I do now? I can't figure out how to make a list, mark books as read or to be read, etc. Help!

Hi, Constance. Glad you joined this group! There's plenty of examples of Personal Lists to browse through on the group homepage. Create your List as if you're posting a comment, and Jenny will add your book titles to a Master List. To list each title: Click the "add book/author" feature above the comment box,
Write the title in the search box,
Click search,
Scan the results,
Decide which you want, then
Click add.
The link will be added to the bottom of your comment. If necessary, cut and paste it from the bottom to higher up.
The only stipulations in creating your personal list are that it have 52 unique countries and that the book titles be linked.
Hope this helps; but I probably told you what you already know!
Still another. On a different thread it seems like people are making folders for each country. Is that something you do within the shelf?

I can't figure out how to make a list, mark books as read or to be read, etc. Help!"The first step is to create your Personal List of 52 books and Jenny will put your titles into the group Master List.
After you've created the Personal List, you can join the Challenge by adding a new shelf to "My Books" (your Goodreads Bookshelves) and putting its name into the Challenge signup box. In "My Books", you can designate your books as Read, Currently Reading, or To Read. The link between your Bookshelf and the Challenge automatically updates.
Links allow you to click on the title of the book (or the author) which takes you directly to the GR page for that book with the description and GR reviews. To make a link, click on "add book/author" just above the blue line, for instance, on the comment box or on your list. Type in the title and click on "search." This will bring up your book and maybe others. Click on "add." If you want to add the author, go back to add book/author. Click "author" and, if you have already typed in the title of a book, the author's name will be right there. Again, just click on "add." I won't "look right" until you "post" the comment or save your list.

Constance wrote: "One more question (I'm a slow learner): how do the book titles become linked? Linked to what?"The book title in your Personal List is linked to the Goodreads book database, which displays descriptive summaries, publication info, and readers' reviews and ratings. For example, The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle.
Constance, do you know about our Master List (at the end of all the personal lists) and our recommendations listed by country?
Constance, I enjoyed your list, especially[book:My Little Round House|6300872. I have not completed my list yet, but having fun researching. I love children's books, have you seen any other children's titles in the lists.
I see I didn't enter my link correctly, thought I did correctly. Haven't seen any other children's books, maybe will research when I have more time. I like the great variety and suggestions, looking forward to getting started and discussions.
Thanks, Chel, I will add that to my list. After reading my first book, Angela's Ashes, I am thinking my list may be too heavy on memoirs and will need to alternate those with lighter reading.
Here I am again -- sorry. How do I update my challenge status so that it shows how many books I have read? And how do I access the folders? Thank you!
Constance, have you made a shelf corresponding to the name of the challenge? Once you do that and put your books on the shelf, showing them as read (including the finished date), they should show up on your challenge statues.Which folders are you trying to access?
I don't know which folders to access. I just see on some of the threads that folders are being made and I was curious what they were.
Constance, go to "My Books" and create a shelf for the challenge. I named mine World Challenge.Come back to the group and add your shelf to the challenge eg. world-challenge
When you finish reading a book, enter on your review the end date and assign the book to your challenge shelf.
I hope that helps.
Newbie here! :) This sounds like a lot of fun! I do have a question: Do I have to make my own list or can I just pick and choose off of other people's lists??
Whichever you want, Jessica. Then make a link page with links to all your choices so people can browse and praise your list!
