Daisy, would you recommend some books for Russia that you would consider a "light read?" Mysteries, whatever you think. Several people have made this request for many of the counties.
Some lighter choices:The True Memoirs of Little K: A Novel
Casual
Deathless--a "dark" fairy tale I didn't finish
Gorky Park
The Hottest Dishes of the Tartar Cuisine
Vaclav and Lena
The Winter Queen
Scenes from the Bathhouse: And Other Stories of Communist Russia
Selected Poems
Russian Winter
Moonlight in Odessa
I am looking for former Russian Empire / Soviet countries - such as Georgia, Armenia, Kazakhstan. I see that you have Purge for Estonia above. From your lists, is it possible for you to point us in the direction of the separate countries / regions that fail under the 'Russian' banner please?

Not really a republic book, that. You might want to try Chingiz Aitmatov for the Central Asian republics, Mikhail Bulgakov for the Ukraine, Sholom Aleichem for the Pale in Belarus and the Ukraine,
