Anne (reachannereach) Daisy, would you recommend some books for Russia that you would consider a "light read?" Mysteries, whatever you think. Several people have made this request for many of the counties.

From your lists, is it possible for you to point us in the direction of the separate countries / regions that fail under the 'Russian' banner please?

You may want to give Boris Akunin a try. His detective series, starting in Russia in the 1870s is fun and great reading. Boris Akunin

Genia Lukin Not really a republic book, that. You might want to try Chingiz Aitmatov for the Central Asian republics, Mikhail Bulgakov for the Ukraine, Sholom Aleichem for the Pale in Belarus and the Ukraine,
