Misty (mysto) The trick is making it to the 2nd book. The first book the Gunslinger is a little hard to get through but once I got into it, I read them all back to back. He has another coming out in April that will be an addition in the middle of the series.

message 19: by Tawna (new)

Tawna | 479 comments Really, I didn't find the first one hard to get through at all. I found it at work (we share books there) and it is what pulled me into the whole series.

I actually didn't like Song of Suzanna very much and thought parts of it were hard to get through.

For some reason I started it like 10 times... It took me a while to find what I liked about it. Song of Susannah sort of dumped way too many answers into one of the shortest books in the series.

DARK TOWER SERIES

Sad to say that I have never finished the last book :(
Someone told me that one of the main characters dies at the end and I have made it to the last 100 pages and cannot bring myself to grieve over any of the characters I love them all so much. I started them in highschool (I graduated in 2005) and I've reread them multiple times and have never been able to bring myself to finish it

<~~~~sappy goober

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

Its been over 7 years; still can't bring myself to do it...maybe on my death bed when all my internal organs are failing and I am blind I'll have my future great grandchild read the end to me. Or if you read it, you can just tell me who dies lol

I never could get into that book series. I had the hand-me-down box set from the 1970's

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

When I was younger, and I guess I still am this way, I loved history and learning about how people lived way back when. I loved reading the little house on the prairie series and playing the Oregon Trail. lol. The two went well together.

message 38: by Terra (new)

Terra Synn (terrasynn) | 239 comments I also couldn't get into Nancy Drew or the Hardy Boys

When i was in grade school we didn't have the new ones for the modern age, we had the old ones from the 1950's, so imagine how BORING they were.

I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU HAVE NOT READ THE END!!!!!! That someone who told you that should be shot! You need to read the end, I can't tell you but it makes sense for the storyline.

message 44: by [deleted user] (last edited Feb 10, 2012 08:10PM) (new)

I know I know, it is horrible that I have never finished it. Since it has been so long since I read the books I think that somewhere in the near future perhaps I will start the series over again. But I cannot guarantee that I will be able to finish it. lol.

I normally only read books that are a part of a series and this is the only one that has effected me this way. I found a good used book website (www.abebooks.com)that has great used books in great condition available to purchase for a great price. I was looking into it for the first time last night. Although I did not purchase them, I looked into the Dark Tower series. I could get the entire series, start to finished, with shipping and handling already added in for a total of $23 and some change! It got me really excited to reread them again.

message 45: by Tawna (new)

Tawna | 479 comments Wow, that is a pretty good price! I have actually already bought books from that website. If you do read it again, go luck with reading the ending! LOL

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

If I do, I'll make my own thread starting with book one with all of my anxieties and nightmares about which one I am going to lose. I loved all of those characters over any other characters in all of the books I have read. I actually had a 10 gallon fish tank and all my fish were named after them. lol. They all died. Which Kind of Sucked.

PS: were you happy with the quality of the books once you got them? That is the only part I found worrisome.

Poor fishies!! I've gotten two books from abe books and they came just fine. But seeing as they are used from different people I can't vouch for all the books. I would try it out though for sure at that price.
