Is anyone going to be blogging their journey? This will be a good thread for those who are going to blog (or already have a blog) to give us your url.

I started a blog yesterday - Have Book Will Travel

I probably won't restrict myself to the challenge. I'm sure I'll intersperse off topic entries from time to time.

An Inspiration to create the Blog from the Challenge :)

Same. I am a bit inspired to start a blog because of this challenge :)

I have recently started my blog where I review books and I sure am going to be blogging my journey. :)

I used a "stock" template since I'm not talented enough to start from scratch. I like the travel one because it allows me to pinpoint the entry on a map.

I can't decide! I will either be blogging over at my regular reading blog, Reading Envy, or I'll start a new one.

I loved both the cat story and the railroad house derailed story. That's as far as I got today. I'll have to go back and read more when I have the time. In your case, who cares about book reviews? D)

Asmah, well, I've been concentrating on movies for quite awhile. I have a similar project to Around the World, yet it's for movies: Discovering World Cinema. I hope to see movies from as many countries as possibl.

Pragya, that is correct. Every month, I post about 5 movies that I watched that month and liked. I should be posting my top picks for 2011 soon. I wanted to wait for Carnage to come out, but I guess I'm just going to have to go ahead and post it soon. My top 5 of 2011 so far:

3. We Need to Talk About Kevin
4. Hadewijch
5. Le gamin au vélo/The Kid With a Bike

Thanks Allison. I will just go see them. You know since joining Goodreads, I have been wishing to find a similar site like Goodreads but about movies, to keep track of what I saw, what I liked and recs. But well, haven't found it yet. :(

IMDB is a good site for rating movies. iCheckMovies is a good site for keeping track of films you've seen on lists, and MUBI is a decent discussion site. However, MUBI has flaws like: a limited database and a really dumb name.

I've been noticing a lot of challenges reading bloggers are signing up for for 2012, and all of them have cute little graphics that go with them. The idea is that every time you blog about something related to the challenge, you include the image, which is instantly recognizable as belonging to it. (Cross reference this photo, or this one.)

I think those of us who will be blogging these books should have one too! I'm not great at graphic stuff. I did find this photo which would be one idea to start with, because it does have creative commons licensing. It might be too obvious.

What do you think? I did find a few pics of people reading while waiting for the subway, and that would work too....

Hmm. I could do that. If I'm not too lazy.

I'm going to be blogging about it and was going to set up a seperate blog for this challenge but I figure it'd be too much of a hassel so everytime I read one for the challenge I'll have a nifty little picture that will signify that it's for the around the world challenge :)

I like the idea of the subway reading picture. Besides that one, I think a picture of one of those ubiquitous bookstalls on the banks of Seine could be a good one. The first time I saw those green wooden trunk-like boxes, it just appeared to me as if the books (and the reader) were ready for travel. :D

I was originally thinking of creating a Wordpress site for Around the World since I'm also making this a baking challenge, and several had said they'd like to contribute food or drink related things. Since so many of us are blogging and lots of things at available online, I might just pull things into a Tumblr. That way I can still blog my usual places, and so can you, and I can link to everything in one place. I'm thinking it would be easier than setting up an entire site, particularly since I'm starting a new position January 3!

What do you think? There are definitely some disadvantages to Tumblr as well... And yes, this is what I'm thinking about on Christmas morning hehe!

I really like the idea of identifying our blog entries as related to this challenge. I'm really new to blogging and don't know how to do this.

I guess we need to decide on a picture first. Maybe we should do a poll and vote on the pictures. My favorite so far is the globe beside the books. To me, it really represents what we are doing. I do like the pictures that Navdeep has, but I don't think they portray the "around the world" theme.

Is the picture then "clickable" and will bring people here to this group? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

I think either that or to a brief description that includes a link. I know I'm planning on posting about the challenge itself, explaining it at the beginning.

Is it creative commons licensed?

I don't know how to check that, Jenny. I searched in Google images and there was no claim written on the photo.

And then... do we even have to have the same icon? Since there are no rules to our group, we don't need rules for our blogs. I've fallen in love with Jenny's picture (msg 24). And it is creative commons licensed.

Navdeep, I remember when not too long ago there were newsstands (as in second picture) everywhere in Manhattan. Seeing the photo made me a bit nostalgic.

I've been playing with one image, and anyone can use this one if you want. The image is originally Creative Commons, so it is okay that I've edited it, altered it, and posted it online.

Well, see, I have a baking blog too. I will blog both places and pull those posts together (as well as any other blogger's posts, and maybe just some recipes and other things online) through my Around the World Tumblr. Beware the Librarian. She likes to make lists....
