message 9: by Petra (last edited Jan 16, 2012 09:10PM) (new)

Petra Does a memoir work for an autobiography? If so, I'd like to read Rainbow's End: A Memoir of Childhood, War and an African Farm.

message 10: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jennyc89) | 135 comments I will be reading Elizabeth the Queen: The Life of a Modern Monarch. It doesn't come out until January 10th so it will be interesting reading almost 700 pages in 20 days on top of starting my last semester of undergrad...

message 11: by Sam (last edited Dec 16, 2011 06:32AM) (new)

Sam I'm not normally someone who reads anything other than fiction but after seeing a few people mention this book Sky Burial: An Epic Love Story of Tibet on GR I'm going to give it a go.

Jeannepw I will be joining. I plan to read Mary Boleyn: The Mistress of Kings.

message 14: by Matthew (last edited Dec 17, 2011 04:36PM) (new)

Matthew (swint) A biography or autobiography is a genre I have on my personal challenge for next year. I may try to knock that off my list in January for this challenge with Tina Fey's Bossypants. I think Tina Fey is hilarious and I bet this book of hers will be too.

Kel | 66 comments Matt wrote: "A biography or autobiography is a genre I have on my personal challenge for next year. I may try to knock that off my list in January for this challenge with Tina Fey's Bossypants. I..."

Oh my goodness I could not stop laughing!! I sat in the breakroom at work and cracked up. I know my co-workers probably thought I was a little crazy.

message 16: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (swint) I'm going to end up just buying the ebook version. I need to buy a bigger bookshelf before I buy many more paperbacks. :)

If I buy it and it turns out that it's a lendable book, I could always lend it to you once I'm finished, Vicky.

Bossypants was hilarious. I know you plan on reading it as an ebook, but I can't recommend the audio book highly enough. Tina Fey reads it herself and I couldn't stop laughing.

message 18: by Laura (new)

Laura (veganheartbeats) I'm going to read Heat by Bill Buford. It's an autobiographical account of his time working for acclaimed chef Mario Batali in Tuscany. I'm a foodie, so I'm thinking it will be interesting and hopefully I will learn something!

message 20: by Nicolette (new)

Nicolette (cocopuff09120) | 68 comments I will definitely be doing this but I'm not sure on what book yet. I don't own any biographies so it will mean a trip to the half price book store!

:D I want to hear what you think about your pick (Steve Jobs) also. I thought about buying it just to read for this challenge, but received this book with the first-reads program. :D What I have seen in the book is really interesting. Received it today, just in time. :D I think it will turn out really engrossing.

I have known a few people who said it was absolutely amazing and I'm thinking about reading. It's always good to hear from other book lovers their opinions. I'm excited about Steve Jobs. I'm just fascinated with him and I started and so far so good.

Jessa, I finished this book. =] I had problems with the authors Naivete and attitude, but I loved the book otherwise. It was engrossing and kept me hooked the entire time. I found myself wondering what would happen next.

message 49: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (swint) @Rachel Skye, do we update this thread once we've read the book we entered the challenge with, or what? This is my first GR group reading challenge and wondered how this group kept track of who has read what for which challenge.
