This was boring but good:

I beg to differ on the "boring" part. I don't think To Kill a Mockingbird is boring at all. I mean, it's not full of explosions or anything like that, but it is a very compelling story––both about racism and about coming-of-age.

But yes, it is very good. One of my all-time favorites. :)

Hm...I want to read that book. My favorite author said that was her favorite book.

The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, blah, blah, blah... I've said this list like five times...

The Book Thief is quite a good read, oh and for those of us who like graphic novels, there's of course The Complete Maus

THe Book Thief is an amazing book.

Clare is a good writer, but her inclusion of Sebastian was too late, the reveal wasn't as shocking, at least for me:p

I thought Sebastian came in at about the right time, but I agree the reveal was kind of obvious. Of course, I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. Except for that the characters didn't really figure it out fast enough. I knew from like, the first second he showed up. XD

Yes, yes it is. After I read that book I just sat and stared at the wall for a while... It was pretty hard to digest. Haha.

Me, too! Had a strong impact on my thought-processes for a long while after reading it..

And the fact that all the characters were so REAL is only a bonus. I could easily imagine all of them, and that is the sign of a veryvery good book, right?

At least, that's what I think.

I think you're absolutely right. Characters are the most important thing for me, whether I'm reading or writing. A book can be the best-written thing in the world, but if the characters are boring then I just can't enjoy the book. And when I'm writing I concentrate a lot more on creating realistic characters than I do on my writing style... A good story should be about relatable people.

Okay, looks like I should read the book thief...
The Mortal Instruments-series is awesome! I couldn´t put them aside - but I think the 4th volum was unneseccary. I liked the ending of Ciry of Glass and now I have to wait for City of Souls. How mean.

What I read for a book club was The Handmaids Tale. You had to get used to the story and the writing style, but all in all it was very good - and haunting. It´s a dystopia a future world where woman are oppressed and just used as birth-machines. Talk about discrimination...

Yeah, I've read Handmaid's Tale. You're right, it IS very haunting. But I love how unsympathetic the whole story is, and how frank. As if the writer is saying, this is the world I've created. And I don't care if you like it or not, but I am not going to make it cutesy. It is brutal. So deal with it.

That's cool.

I felt the same way about the fourth Mortal Instruments book. It was good, but rather unnecessary and kind of annoying.

I've been meaning to read The Handmaid's Tale for a while...

And I agree; The fourth MI book is totally unneccessary to the series-- and there are two more to come!

I enjoyed it, but only in a very passive way. It shouldn't have been published, end of. But then again, I'm sure that a lot of readers LOVED the book, so maybe it was just individual taste.

It´s totally worth your time. What impressed me the most, was how POSSIBLE all this sounds. With the terrorism-problem, with which the new government in The Handmaids Tale started, and the birth-rates going down...
I´ll still read the 5th volume - because now I just have to know how it end. *sigh*

That's always the scariest kind of dystopia––when it actually seems plausible. Most dystopias I can't bring myself to suspend my disbelief...

As long as it´s sci-fi you can read it like it does not concern you. When it´s something possible...

Hades...Im not sure how to describe him but you can look it up on deviant art. Just write: Hades Zelda c. Wang.

And Anubis could also be described as being Nico's godly older brother.

I´m re-reading The Hunger Games at the moment; in march there´ll be the movie - finally!

I was dissapointed at how the percy jackson movie turned out.

That was horrible.
First: Where is the we-are-so-much-better-than-you attitude of the gods? there were so many worn out clichees, like the dad-son issue, that Hades is the bad guy - again, though I found especially this change in the books great. An, last but not least, Annabeth. She didn´t look and behave one little bit like Annabeth. And she definitely is not a smart-ass. She´s more like a warrior-queen. Clarisse-like. An what about these stupid pearls?!
You see, I didn´t like it either, mildly spoken. ;)

I hated it also. They were supposed to be TWELVE in The Lightning Theif. They spoilt the WHOLE plot. I was so ashamed with how it turned out. (Im not going to go into a long rant about all the things they did wrong. It would take too long.)

Oh, I used to love Fang but then... he got annoying in the third book. In fact, the books in general got annoying by the third book. x_x
